    Mine is running just fine. I'll spend some time tonight trying to pinpoint the issue and figure out why some of us can run it while others can't. I'll post back here if I find anything.

    I'll rule out Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, as I'm using it and have no issues. The issue may be related to something like Visual Studio redistributables.

    Every single thing seems to be working flawlessly for me. I have no idea how to use the speedtree modeler thing but I guess I should be grateful that it loads.

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    Intel Q6600
    4GB RAM

    Tried running as an administrator, and as a regular user. Crashes either way, with an "An unexpected error occures while initializing", followed by an "unexpected argument" (not the exact text, I will provide this later, I'm not currently at my PC) error.

    Then it stopped working, with the same error as everyone else here.

    it runs on my Vista 32, so i think that 64bit system can be cause of problems. The problem is exactly with Win32 folders which are in other place in 64bit systems .

    I'd just like to say that today SpeedTree Modeler loaded perfectly, so I'd suggest those with the error to occasionally try loading the program again just in-case (as for me) it starts working.

    Something really weird going on with this thing

    yeah that was one of the first things I tried and didnt work. Havent tried turning off uac a lot of programs need it and its a pain to switch on and off. Also tried changing security for the folder and that didnt work either.

    I wouldn't worry about it - I've just tried turning off UAC and restarting, and it doesn't make any difference, so it's something unrelated to this

    Hi,

    I'm the lead developer of the SpeedTree Modeler and I'd like everyone to know that we're trying to track this down.

    We been able to produce similar errors when running 64 bit Windows 7 but only when the region setting is something other than the U.S. Are any of you that are experiencing this problem using a non-U.S. region setting? Does switching to U.S. fix the problem?

    I'm not advocating that as the permanent solution but I'd like to make sure we're on the right track.

    Thanks,

    Michael Sechrest

    Excellent! - If you need any more info than what's below, just let me know.

    I am using a non-U.S. region setting, I'm using "English (United Kingdom)". I have just tried changing all my settings to the US settings however, and even after a reboot it still crashes. I still get the same error as chiefwhosm when I attach to the process using Visual C++.

    The actual text of the dialog boxes are:
    An unexpected error occured[sic] while initializing. Please contact support@speedtree.com

    When that is dismissed you get the following dialog (which in turn produces the exception in the Visual C++ log provided by chiefwhosm):
    An invalid argument was encountered.

    I can't find any log files to provide, but I can give the output from 'SystemInformation.exe', though it looks to primarily be graphics card support, so it may not be of much use. Either way it's available at:

    I'm using a very fresh install of win7-64bit and it is a US region install, and I'm not having any luck getting speedtree to boot up, just hangs with most of the UI drawn but the view ports are empty.

    I had and still have U.S. region setup in 64b Win7 with a few custom settings like euro for currency. Speedtree worked for me after I have installed UDK, the next day it didn't work. Only thing that I remember I did is to change drivers for my 260GTX from 191.07 to 195.39 (beta). If you think this could be the cause, I could try to unistall and go back to those older drivers.

    I'd be very interested to see if a driver roll back helps.

    I have a new install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (US-Region) and the SpeedTree Editor is running fine. I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed for a GTX260 (191.07).

    I had to install some MS-VC++ updates for other programs...maybe some of those are required?

    Here's what I have installed;

    also Microsoft XNA Redistributable 3.1

    I hope this helps.

    Unfortunately that didn't help. I did a normal unistall through Add remove and reinstalled Drivers, PhysX and nVidia Sterreoscopic 3D Driver.

    Maybe a list of stuff that I have installed after UDK could help to find something suspicious. I will leave out programs which shouldn't do much mess.

    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64) - I think that was with 3dsmax9
    Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
    OMP Index Reference Increment (64b) - something from Autodesk
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17
    NVIDIA CUDA Toolkit
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 - x64 8.0.50727.4053
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.4148

    It would be great if that could help somehow.

    Just as a test, I've tried upgrading my NVidia drivers (I'm using an 8800), from 190.38 to 191.07.

    Both versions exhibit the same crash issue.

    Yes, it does, and I was wrong about SpeedTree + AVG being the problem. I deleted my post above but not before you caught it ;-)

    It might be nvidia , I have hd 4850 and it is running fine for me . Perhaps speedtree uses some extension , or more simple put epic just look over this bug . It seems like there hasn't been a problem on a 32 bit platform . That is why this is still in beta stage . Try different types of standard run times I got net. frame work visual s rt , I don't have a problem , it also could be because I am running on a 32 bit plat form . Did you try restarting your computer , see if that work's .
