Default MSU Phase 4 Best Non-FPS Mod Finalists

Here are the Phase 4 finalists for the “Best non-FPS Mod” category in its $1 Million Intel Make Something Unreal Contest. All finalists in this category (as well as in the best FPS Mod category) are eligible to enter the Grand Finals. This competition rewards top mods created for Unreal Tournament 3 with cash and hardware prizes in four preliminary phases and a grand final. Visit http://www.makesomethingunreal.com for full details.

The competition was stiff in this round - there are a number of honorable mentions in this category that would easily have been finalists in previous phases.

    Congratulation to all the finalists.

While I am happy for all finalists, I must admit that I am surprised to find Renegade-X on the list. Can Epic clearify the rules for us? The official rules says for example:

"All Submissions must be available for free public download at the time of submission and playable with the retail version of Unreal Tournament 3 patched to the latest officially released update. "

To my knowledge, and to the rest of the public, Renegade-X was released on 30th September, while the deadline for phase 4 was end of August

Can Epic please explain what has happend? To me it would appear that Renegade-X have been given special treatment.

Renegade X submitted a version for the contest before the contest deadline. This version has been publically available from fileplanet since then (you can see the download link at www.makesomethingunreal.com). This mod was judged based on the version submitted before the deadline.

How is it public if it is not on MSUC page nor does Renegade-X team call it public release, but rather the one released now?

Besides a trailer, Renegade-X is not on http://www.makesomethingunreal.com/phase4.aspx , and never has been.

But this doesn't seem to go anywhere, but I find the whole thing very weird, and I think there are other people that would agree with me..

I expect, like Planetstorm, it was submitted quietly for your benefit, in order to make the thing more suitable for public consumption and to save downloading a full mod (1.1gig in our case) twice in a short time. The links to ours and Ren-X were there if you knew where to look, simply not shouted around all over the place. No conspiracy >.<

edit, oh, and of course congratulations to everyone!

Edit: Seems for some reason Renegade X is found as Ren X. When searching I searched for Renegade and found only the trailer, my bad about that at least

I beg to differ, but it really was. Unless you were looking at the front page where only the first few mods submitted where mentioned (unless you follow the link to the rest of the mods).

In fact, one of the reasons why I remember that it was there so clearly as soon as FPGundam updated it with all the entries was that the description for Planetstorm and RenX was somehow confused, and we got the same description as RenX.

Did you look in the FPS mod category? It was entered in that category as well (we judged it as non-FPS to be consistent with our criteria for which category a mod goes into, although unfortunately our criteria and the categories seem a bit dated).

Not even a honourable mention for Project Stealth? I'm disappointed (expected more with the close to 3 years we put into it).

Aw well, we'll probably be done shortly after Phase 5 with a truely playable version.

Congrats to the rest of course.

Congrats to all the other finalists. Steve, when you say all the finalists in phase 4 are eligible to enter the grand finals, does that mean there will be twenty possible entries, or that 12 entries will be chosen from the pool of twenty to compete in the grand finals? If it is the former case do we still need to get back to you in 72 hours to confirm our intent to submit?

    Good question Potens,

I would also like to ask some other specific questions about phase 4 - 5 transitioning. Any moderators or contest judges that can answer them for me please PM me. My previous questions went unanswered on the forums, and until I spoke to Dana. Please let me know if that is the route I should take again or if anyone here could help me out. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Also, I would like to give a shout out to all of the fellow non-fps finalists and HMs, as I had one of each this phase (Killing Time and Millagun) too bad I can't swap the two - I am extremely surprised and disappointed that Millagun did not do as well as I had hoped in this category but still hold hope that it may do better in one of the remaining categories... good luck to everyone else - I can't wait to see the remaining results!

That would indeed be intresting to know if we have to contact epic again to be part of the grand finals.

Congrats to all other finalists btw.

I see, it's in the official rules, but this only applies if you are contacted directly.

Up to 12 Submissions will be selected as finalists ("Finalists"). Finalists will be contacted by Sponsor or a representative of Sponsor and will have up to 72 hours to respond via email and confirm their interest in moving to the Final Round.

AFAIK The finalists listed in this and the other thread are still only for PHASE 4. Not the Grand Finals.

Hi everyone, email notifications to all the finalists have been distributed.

If your team leader did NOT receive an email, please PM me and we'll make sure your team is provided ftp instructions for the next deadline.
