At least 50% of the Scorcher's power comes from psychology: especially when conquering an Annex ring from an enemy it blurs their vision and makes their characters scream. Add to this a couple of your own team mates rushing in with shotguns blazing or chainsaws revving and there you go.

Totally true. When you yourself are the one doing the scorching it's easier to see how narrow the range is. If you're schorchin' you're usually about to get chainsawed.... that's the achilles heel of the flame thrower
