    Default How to make the melee NOT USED AS MUCH.

    Widen the spread of the shotgun. then all of you shotgun lovers will get what you want, and I get what I want, a less long range shotgun. as of right now, it's nearly impossible to escape the shotgun, you try to run, but since the shotgun is so long range, they will always get you. For anyone of you who say "just learn how to wall bounce" I could just learn how to mod my controller and bridge host and lag switch, but obviously, I'm not going to. I don't want to break the game, I want to have fun.

Back on topic, the melee is used more than bullets mostly because it is effective, and most times, in lag, it's more effective since the shotgun doesn't spread at close range.

    tl;dr shorten the range with this spread, and you'll get less meleeing, and a more balanced game.

    EDIT: this is my proposed spread change, even though I doubt any of the devs will actually look at it. http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/z...eadchanges.jpg it is the middle 4 pellets that make the shotgun as long range as it is.

    widening the spread would make it a better close range weapon than the melee, obviously. right now it pretty much shoots like this --- and if you widen the spread, you get this < .

    Lower the melee damage to be like the Hammer of Dawn's (3 melee to down someone, not 2).

    im all for the close ranged shotgun.
    should be indeed a close combat attack/defend weapon with a big spread.
    the big spread may also funtion in "gow3?" for disabling mounted nades.

    for long range we have the lancer of hammerburst,etc
    I dont have clue whut i just said, so try too pardon me.
    had an blast with shotgun wretches on horde.

    Spreading the shot would make it weaker though. If fact, there already are shot patterns like you're referring to...

    Hard Aiming = ---
    Pop Shot (and to a lesser extent, Blind Fire) = <

    People still melee.

    Play Gears 1. That's the answer to fixing the melee.

    But Epic knows this. Apparently, they like it the way it is. "It's a counter." Pfft.

    i guess the melee stun should be brought back because there was so much danger involved in missing but if this was ever implemented, im sure more people would find a fault with it. itd be way better just to remove the stun when you get hit so the 2-piece pretty much becomes useless without the stun.

    You know, I think I have understood you wrong this whole time. I thought you meant the shotgun POWER was OP not its range. Anyways, as far as range goes, it is indeed far too powerful at medium - long ranges. We need to put in a wide bullet spread and make them disperse very quickly.

    The Gears 1 shotgun spread was perfect. The shotgun was lethal at close range, but dramatically dropped off in power once you got about 10 feet from the target.

    Or, remove any/all stun and reduce the melee damage to 0. 2-piece solved.

    Apparently you dont play against terrible hosts who wall bounce 50 times in less than 2 seconds to close the gap on you just so they can melee.

    To change one person's play style? It's a shooter. Guns need to be re-introduced into Gears 2.

    You would have to kill the gears community if you would like stop melee.

    This or Epic who would think seriously about bringing the melee stun from Gears 1.
    And remove the delay after roadie run and ADD a delay for the melee after rolling would be perfect too.

    everything is changed to be fitted with EPICS idea of tactical....which suites me but a lot of people i know are still in the mind frame of gears of war 1 which does not help them in this game due to the stopping power.

    i mean as they say if its not broke then dont try to fix it. that's how MW2 will probably play the same since for some reason that is a popular game.

    i like GOW2 but annex seems pointless sometimes since its the opposite of tactical, but on gears of war 1 it was heart racing.

    If it is laggy, than that isn't a melee problem its a lag problem, and changing the melee function won't fix that.

    And yes, its obviously a shooter so shoot at the guy. if you see him bouncing at you, jump backwards. Don't stand there and try and hold your ground if you have terrible lag.
    Thats a very specific scenario you bring up to complain about the melee.

    Unfortunately their idea of tactical has ruined the online scene.

    The customer is always right. Gears 3 sales will not compare to Gears 1 or 2 because of Epic's blatant disregard of what the fans want.

    Anyone who buys Gears 3 is an idiot.

    Jumping away from him just gives him a clean shot at me and the shotgun does alot of damage even at range. I prefer not to give my opponent a free shot at me.

    Just improve the Hit detection of the bullets so that bullets have the same reliability as the melee. Then you will see how fast more and more people begin to rely on the bullets and not on the melee

    I seriously wonder if they are going to implement hand to hand combat moves in GoW3. It seems this game seems to be moving away from being a shooter.

    All the game really needs is CSHD for the shotgun. because it still has bullet lag for whatever unfathomable reason, very often the person's melee (which does have CSHD) knocks you back before you can shoot.

    I really love how much people didn't really read my post, and just came up with their own ideas. It doesn't have to be too wide, just more so than what it is. because right now, it's ridiculously long range.

    I want it more horizontally spread than what it is, possibly more vertically, but that's not really necessary to make it have less range, but I think that making it less vertically would make it better at close range. here's a picture. I fail at paint, so please forgive me.

    Sounds to me like you just want to be invinsible. There are scenarios where you are going to die, if you bounce back and get shot shoot back!

    I see your issue right in the post, you want to be within arms reach, having a blindfire shotty battle, and anything else is unacceptable.

    Don't exactly know how that's going to stop melee, but just bring back the old melee system and the old shotgun. Nobody asked for these changes to begin with.

    I hardly use the shotty, nor do I prefer to be close to my opponents because of the ridiculous amount of people who melee.

    they wanted to make a better more tactical game, that's why, but they made the mistake of making the shotgun more long range, which it shouldn't be. shotgun should only be used if you get rushed or you are rushing. not for shooting a guy down from more than ten feet away. (which is what people do)

    also, this is more a thread on the shotgun than it is the melee, because fixing the shotgun to be more close range would stop you guys complaining about the melee so much.

    ps, the way to avoid the melee is to keep the **** away from people. It should be the same with the shotgun, but alas, it isn't so.

    To be honest, Epic has done nothing to make there game more tactical. Melee is too powerful and they need to give some disadvantage into using it like all other forms of weapons in this game. It should be a counter, but not a weapon capable of killing you so effectively, that's what the chainsaw is for, but I'm not going to get into that. As for range with the shotgun, I agree it is ridiculous, but lowering the range will nerf it even more, which is why the should just bring back the old shotty. Lowered range, lowered strength, but consistent overall. No weird power boosts for aiming your weapon in a different fashion, just a normal shotgun that overall, does the job it was meant to do. Is that so hard to ask for Epic, really?

    And yeah, when I learned to wall-bounce/strafe, I definitely also learned how to mod, glitch and cheat. Those things are all definitely in the same league. Wow.
