Default My GOW3 Big concept [Now on the right forum - Update soon]

    Languages: English - Italian
Attention: All images on the topic are meant purely as an example of what could be. The pics only serve to clarify ideas.

All gamertag present, except mine, are completely fictional. If are present on LIVE I apologize to the owners.

There may be errors of translation. In this case, you can report them with a PM or directly on the topic.

This concept was published August 7 on MondoXbox forum.

The topic would be better without speak of lag, thus encroaching off topic. In addition to commenting on this topic all the ideas on how gameplay might be, everyone can share his ideas. Keep clean and especially at the top.

    Thank you.

    GOW3 Big concept
    Matchmaking

    Type 1

Currently, GOW2 uses the simple matchmaking system, contrary to what was the first chapter of the series, which instead used the system of lobbying, but without allowing the organization of specific groups. My idea includes both systems: matchmaking + lobby.

Another limitation of GOW2 are the choices that can be made by the player. In the multiplayer menu you can choose between public, private, local, etc ... and up to here we are. The choice is rather limited in choosing the various game modes and maps. The intention of the developers, I think, is to put less playlist not possible to scatter the people. But for a title like GOW is difficult to be dispersed, which is always seen in 4th position in the ranking of the games played on LIVE.

    Public matches

In my concept are three items:
Gametype - This is a list where you can choose different gamemodes, with the specific players involved.
Maps - This is a list where you can select the group of maps on which to play and then search.
Search type - is the kind of research. You can find lots created by a host games created on a server, quick access to a game (player host or server and without connection information. In addition to these components must begin this type of research places the players have started games in which one or plus players are out), and host a game.

    Public matches – Host search

Using this type of search the game find the matches…:
1 - The quality is not less than 0.25 Mbps, and the ping is in the range 0 ~ 300ms
2 - What has not been "reserved" (this system is explained below)
3 - What can hold the whole group (if you're on 5, the game must find 5 free slots and that they are a faction. The game can not scatter the group between Locust and COG)

At this point I see the search results displays on my screen:
Host gamertag - The host gamertag who create the game
Nation - That the nation is located in the host. Detection is carried over IP. If the database that is dealing with it is not possible to process the IP, then the nationality given is that which results in the user profile and made directly from Xbox Live.
    Quality - represents the quality of the connection: Green (0.60 mbps +), Yellow (0.35 ~ 0.50mbps), Red (0.25 ~ 0.35mbps)
Player - Indicates the number of players present the game in the lobby waiting for other players.

Now the creator of the group can "reserve slot" (pressing A button) for a maximum of 3 matches in which to participate.
    What does mean ”reserve”?
Upon selection of a particular host, the system calculates for all the group members the ping to the host and this displayed on the screen: green (0 to 100ms), yellow (from 100ms to 175ms), Red (from 175ms to 300ms) .
The creator of the group must assess the best game to attend. Therefore we reserve the slots, but maximum in 3 games.
Evaluate on what to enter, simply press START to join.

    Public matches – Server search

Using this type of search the game find the matches…:
1 - The quality is not less than 0.25 Mbps, and the ping is in the range 0 ~ 300ms
2 - What has not been "reserved" (this system is explained below)
3 - What can hold the whole group (if you're on 5, the game must find 5 free slots and that they are a faction. The game can not scatter the group between Locust and COG)

At this point I see the search results displays on my screen:
Server area - The location of the server
Gamertag - The gamertag of the person who created the game on the server.
Quality - represents the quality of the connection to the server: Green (good and high performance server), Yellow (server good but not excellent), Red (server required too much or too distant)
Player - Indicates the number of players present the game in the lobby waiting for other players.

Now the creator of the group can "reserve slot" (pressing A button) for a maximum of 3 matches in which to participate. Is the same system describedin “Public match – Host search”.
Evaluate on what to enter, simply press START to join.

Public matches – Quick game search

This search system is indicated for those play alone, which lacks a group. The game connects the player or players to the first game available for the chosen mode, either via host or via server, whether it is to start or already started. This system also allows immediate replacement of one or plus players who have quit the game. Otherwise uses the bot, already included in GOW2.

Public matches – Host a game

Using this system, the creator of the group is the host of the game. Through special menu, you can choose the following options:
Type of matches - Public or private
Connection - Use your connection as a host or choose a server
Game Type - Actually the settings are those already decided by the creator at the start, but can be changed, either type of game that the group of maps
Quality - The system calculates whether the connection is acceptable and therefore the game can be "published".

At the bottom are present with the appropriate symbol for the connection to the players present in the room.

Pressing A will publish the game, press B you edit the various options.

    Private matches – Host search

Using this type of search the game find the matches…:
1 - The quality is not less than 0.25 Mbps, and the ping is in the range 0 ~ 300ms
2 - What has not been "reserved" (this system is explained below)
3 - What can hold the whole group (in private, the system can also choose to scatter the team when is needed)

The creator of the group must assess the best game to attend. Therefore we reserve the slots, but maximum in 3 games.

Private matches haven’t the option to search server.

This search system is indicated for those play alone, which lacks a group. The game connects the player or players to the first game available for the chosen mode. This system also allows immediate replacement of one or plus players who have quit the game.

Private matches – Host a game

Using this system, the creator of the group is the host of the game. Through special menu, you can choose the following options:
Type of matches - Public or private
    Connection - With your host
Availability - You can choose from the following options: For all - only the same nationality of the creator - friends only
Game Type - Actually the settings are those already decided by the creator at the start, but can be changed, either type of game that the group of maps
Map - In private you can also choose a specific map and also the variations Day / Night and Rain / Cloudy / Overcast/ etc…
Maps cycle - Yes or no
Weapons cycle - yes or no
Friendly fire - yes or no
Quality - The system calculates whether the connection is acceptable and therefore the game can be "published". If it is only open to friends, the system does not calculate anything, because the game is not published for everyone.

At the bottom are present with the appropriate symbol for the connection to the players present in the room.

Pressing A will publish the game, press B you edit the various options.

    Type 2
This second concept of GOW3 includes the lobby system in a simplistic form.

    Public matches

During the search for matches, the game selects a fortnight matches have a ping less than 300ms and have a band of not less than 0.25 to upload. At this point the game asked if the player wants to enter this room or go to the next. Of course the game also calculates all the other members of the ping to assess what is the best room.

    Sections:
Gametype - This is a list where you can choose different gamemodes, with the specific players involved.
Maps - This is a list where you can select the group of maps on which to play and then search.
Search type - is the kind of research. You can find lots created by a host games created on a server, quick access to a game (player host or server and without connection information. General

    Other Options
    • In the menu you can access during a game, there is the option "Quit game" but this leads to a punishment, or the deduction of 500 experience points for each weapon / executions of XP General, and then - 0.5% skills in all areas. (explanation below)
    • For the host, but only in private, there is an option that allows you to kick a player from the game. For being kicked need that the other players approve it. This then can no longer fall within the current game.
    • In the main menu in Settings, you can access the menu for private matches where you can set the weapons to your liking and save the settings before you create the room.
    • If the connection quality deteriorates, as in GOW1, the player is warned with a notice informing him of the deterioration, allowing him to leave, without incurring any penalty, and even recording all the points hitherto made.
    • If the host leaves or the server is dropped, all data are recorded in the game, including points. This does not happen if you choose to leave voluntarily through the regular menu.

    A (hold) - Run
    B (push) - Melee / Execution 1 / Grenade Tag
    B (hold) – Use Chainsaw / Dock

    Extra
One of the innovation introduced in this concept is the ability to record, when you're dead, what happens in the game. You can start recording with the A button and stop with the same button. The maximum duration of each record is 5 minutes, after which the recording stops automatically.

During registration you may choose to move the camera to your liking or to entrust the game to go with the camera. That is where the action takes place.

After the registration is to be found in the War Diary and see it. With the Y button you upload to your personal space of Gears of War, after which you can save it on PC or on the site and share it.

    Customization

A new element is the customization, despite its limitations, however (who would like to see a locust colored green and purple? ). Some elements are unlocked from the start, others can be unlocked by experience, with some actions, or through objectives.

    The entries are:
    1 - COG
    2 - Locust
    3 - Lambent

    For the COG:
1 - Character (Cole, Marcus, Carmine, etc ...)
2 - Head (in the case of Marcus, can be selected several bandanas, and for Dizzy different hats. In the case of Carmine can choose different helmets - the type of A. Carmine, B. & C. Carmine)
3 - Neck (can be worn several medals, of course, small)
4 - Armor (different types of armor and shoulder)
5 - Color (choose the colors of the shield, despite its limitations: light blue and gray (as Carmine), dark blue and gray, white and gray, only black-gray variants, etc. ....)
6 - Other elements (such as tattoos)

    For the Locust:
1 - Type of locust (you must choose the body, including Drone, Theron, RAAM, Kantus, Skorge, Palace Guard)
2 - Helmet (if you choose the body from Drone you can have helmets of Flame Grenadier, Beast Rider, Bolter, etc ... – for Therons the helmet of Theron Guard, Sentinel, Type3 and without helmets, etc.)
3 - Armor (choose the type of armor)
4 - Colors (choose the color of armor locust. The colors are naturally limited. For example, you can not have a pink Theron. At best, with variations of gray, or golden (it looks like the Palace Guard), etc.)
    5 - Other items

    For Lambent:
1 - Type of locust (you must choose the body, including Drone, Theron, RAAM, Kantus, Skorge, Palace Guard)
2 - Helmet (if you choose the body from Drone you can have helmets Flame Grenadier, Beast Rider, Bolter, etc ... - in the case of the helmet by Theron Guard, Sentinel, Type3 and without helmets, etc.)
3 - Armor (choose the type of armor)
4 - Colors (choose the color of armor locust. The colors are naturally limited. For example, you can not have a pink Lambent Theron. At best, with variations of gray, or golden (it looks like the Palace Guard), etc.)
5 - Liquid (choose the color of the liquid of the Lambent - only variations yellow - light green - orange)
    6 - Other items

    Maps

Unlike previous Gears of War, in my concept of GOW3 there is a differentiation between the maps and are distinguished:
    -Small
    -Normal
    -Big

Each type of size of the map is suitable for the type of game chosen. For example, a mode of 16vs16 Massacre (explained in Game modes) can not be played on a small map, as Annex can not be played on maps too big because of the respawn points and the continuous change of the circles, which force to carry out long ran toward them.

For small map means a map as Raven Down of the first GOW.
For normal map means a map as Jacinto.
For big map (although a really large maps there are not) means a map as All Fathers Garden.

In each group of maps (except for flashbacks) there are 2 or more maps for each different type. For example, in the group "Beauty Destroyed" Maps there can be 3 small maps, 4 medium maps and 2 large maps.

Depending on the chosen map are various options for the atmosphere and the environment. Such a map may be played or during the day or during the night, or with rain, snow or hail, or sunset, etc… ...

    Map Editor
In GOW1 PC is present the “Unreal Editor for Gears of War" that allows you to create maps, single player levels, and share them with friends. A demonstration of the Unreal Editor it can be seen at this address. The only difference is that with this new editor can only make the maps.

But this idea was born for the xbox360 version and is not the first time a game 360 includes a map editor (see Far Cry 2 or Trials HD). So the idea of a map editor for GOW3 born to the need to share their creations with others.

The editor should be very simplistic, based on a choice through the menus or with the appropriate model based pre-loaded. For example in the menu "cover" you can find the entries:
    - Sandbags
    - Panel
    - Wall
    - Car
    - Tubes
    - Cubes
    - ... ETC. ETC.

At this point, for example, by "sandbags" we can choose different models. Once you choose one you adjust the position with L and R for a possible rotation of the object chosen. These procedures should apply to all types of objects selected to create a map. Also applies to the texture of the land, sky and lighting.

    Sharing
Once you create a map, before publication, you can test by playing with bots or Horde. The maps created by players can be played only by private parties or Private Hordes.

    How to share?
Once the map it can publish on your space on the site of Epic Games. At this point you can select to share the map to: only friends – with all. Or send the map to Epic order to improve/approve it or make it official by including it in a future map packs.

    How to download?
In "Map Store" where you can browse through different categories and choose the maps made by players who want to download. These are included in the HDD 360 and then can be played with friends in private. Of course, the other players with which played they must have the map.

    Gamemodes
    Execution – 5VS5 – Small and normal maps – x1.0 EXP
Classic mode of GOW1 and GOW2. 5 rounds.
To kill the enemy must perform an execution.

    War Zone – 5VS5 – All maps – x1.05 EXP
Classic mode of GOW1 and GOW2. 5 rounds.
To kill your opponent can shoot from far away, even if it is DBNO. The novelty is that now this mode can be played even on large maps, giving the feeling of real war in a big field full of threats.

    Guardian – 5VS5 – All maps – x0.90 EXP
Regenerations are endless until you kill their leader. Wins the game the team that wins 3 rounds. The time limit for this mode is 20 minutes for each turn. If within those 20 minutes you killed your leaders are awarded a point apiece. If both 3 turns has not killed the leader, the experience gained is multiplied x0.30 instead of x0.90.

    Annex – 5VS5 – Small and normal maps – x0.40 EXP
Regeneration endless. The goal is to reach 180 points as soon as possible. 2 times the team that will complete this goal wins the game. The time limit for this mode is 30 minutes in turn. If within those 30 minutes are not completed the game, the point is assigned to the team that scored more points, and in case of a tie point is awarded to both teams. If both rounds you have exceeded the time limit, the experience gained is multiplied x0.10 instead of x0.40.

    King of the Hill – 5VS5 – All maps – x0.47 EXP
Regeneration endless, but only if the circle isn’t still occupied by their team. The goal is to reach 150 points as soon as possible. 2 times the team that will complete this goal wins the game. The time limit for this mode is 30 minutes for each turn. If within those 30 minutes are not completed the game, the point is assigned to the team that scored more points, and in case of a tie point is awarded to both teams. If both rounds you have exceeded the time limit, the experience gained is multiplied x0.13 instead of x0.47. The novelty is that on big maps the King of the Hill will give his best being the large space will be to defend their territory from intruders.

    Submission – 5VS5 – Normal and big maps – x0.52 EXP
Regeneration endless. The goal is to carry the meatflag at the destination for 2 rounds. The time limit for this mode is 25 minutes for each turn. If you exceed the limit point is awarded to both teams. If the meatflag is landed more than 7 times in one minute from the same team, that rebels, removing the double damage to anyone who understood the team to reposition the center of the map. The team that will land all the time the meatflag loses his turn. If both rounds you have exceeded the time limit, the experience gained is multiplied x0.15 instead of x0.52. The team that has suffered the penalty of the meatflag multiplies experience x0.10 instead of x0.52.

    Wingman – 5 teams/2vs2vs… - Normal and big maps – x1.10 EXP
    Classic mode of GOW2.
The team that totals 15 kills for first wins. In the case of suicide is taken off 1 kill. If two or more teams have the same score of 15 killings continue the game until it prevails one of the teams.

    Massacre – 8vs8 – Only big Maps – x0.64 EXP
Regeneration endless. Wins the game the first team that totals 150 kills total. Respawn points are random, and are constantly moved around to where the action is concentrated. During the voting, you can choose from the following options:
    - COG vs. Locust
    - COG vs. Normal Locust Lambent
    - Locust vs. Normal Locust Lambent
It is the perfect mode for those who want to kill as they could, and in this way in other ways to avert the danger of killfarming. For every suicide, -1 killing for the team concerned. The Lambent if downed, can regenerate themselves for a maximum of 2 times. More regeneration, more vulnerable.

    Trio – 3 teams/5vs5vs5 – Only big Maps – x0.80 EXP
Regeneration endless. Wins the game the first team that totals 50 kills. It is a war between COG, Locust and Locust Lambent. Anyone can kill everyone except the members of their team, obviously. For every suicide, -1 killing for the team concerned.

    Alone – 10 teams/1vs1vs1vs… - Small and big maps – x1.30 EXP
It is a variant of Wingman, but in this case you are alone. Who first totals 15 kills wins. In the case of suicide is taken off 1 kill. If two or more persons have the same score of 15 killings continue the game until one of them prevails. In small maps the action is more concentrated meanwhile in big maps the players had a feeling of loneliness. But there aren't COG in this mode, only Stranded (not ex-COG) and Locust. 5 Stranded characters, 5 Locust characters.

    Horde – 5 COG – Small and normal maps – x0.10 EXP
Classic mode of GOW2. But now with Reaver, Corpser, Brumak, Berserker, and a larger amount of Bloodmount, Boomer of various kinds.

    Horde Élite – 5 COG – Only big maps – x0.25 EXP
In this type of Horde we need to fight the Lambent monsters. Same rules as a normal Horde.

    Ranks and skills
This part is quite long to explain. Let's start with the system of EXP and the system of skill, which is different from the current system of experience.

    Skills and Experience
The ability of a player goes from 0% to 100%. 1% corresponds to 1,000 experience points, 100% corresponds to 100,000 experience points. This ability is linked to weapons, executions and points scored generically (ie not derived from his own kills).

    EXAMPLE
It's my first game. In a game of execution I did kill 5players with the shotguns, 1 with the Sniper and 2 with grenades for a total of 8 kills. For the kills made by shotgun, I have been assigned the following points (175 +164 +123 +175 +98). Running assigns all the points then with the shotgun, I scored 735 points. These 735 points of experience are transformed into skill points. So now I have 735 points of skill with the shotgun so I have a skills of 0.735%. The same goes for other weapons. The killing of the sniper has given me 160 points, now I have 160 skill points in the sniper. Same with grenades and the same thing for the points I have been assigned by shooting their opponents without being killed by me.

    Example 2
In a game of Guardian I made 8 kills by shotguns, 2 Executions, 1 Melee, 3 chainsaws for a total of 14 killings. Now let's look at only the pump. The points of the killings are 175,148,170,87,112,154,175,147. The total is 1168 points. Guardian multiplies the points x0.90. 1168 x 0.90 is 1051 experience points. I had 735 points added to these 1051 are 1786 points. Right now I have therefore more than 1% skills.

This process works for all weapons and executions, in addition to points received normally. Prior experience points were awarded only General to the player. Now, however, the system returns to any kind of killing experience points for that specific weapon / type of execution. Achieving a certain percentage of skill will unlock new items for character customization, achievements, and bonuses in the game.

Of course, the progress of their experience points can be seen in the War Diary.

Many of these degrees and specializations can be stacked, but there is no problem. For each specialty / grade achieved is asked if the player wants to continue with their careers (such as a destroyer), or switch to the sniper's career (just achieving).

Its rank, to avert the danger of reset, is connected to your gamertag and inserted into a special database. The rank is still saved in your HDD in case the database should undergo a reset (as happened for Halo Wars).

    Q & A
Q: Ranks and related experience points do not determine anything in factors of advantage / disadvantage for the Multyplayer, right?
A: Right. Determine only the player's experience. Can unlock achievements and new options in the character customization.

Q: You think that all this can come into one DVD?
A: I think not. The idea is great, and since this is the third installment of the series I'd love to have a single player superb and durable both a great multiplayer, The Final multiplayer. So I think it will take 2 DVD, in case someone up something they consider my ideas.

Anyone of you can ask a question and I will try to answer!

    Trivia
    • The whole concept was designed in about two days with further refinements in the days after August 7, the date of publication of material on Mondo XBox.
    • All or most of the images were created with Photoshop and the background was made from a wallpaper of Gears 2 and GOW3.
    • The English translation was made from 10AM until 18PM with a lunch break of about 30 minutes.
    • This concept came to my mind as I thought about how he could be Gears of War in the animated version, with the opening "Hologram" performed by Nico Touches The Walls used in FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
    • The Italian original text have 54867 characters.

Holy hell, this is the biggest most thought out thing for gears 3 evar!!!!!!

edit: anything over 5v5 is unrealistic and would produce way too much lag in an already laggy franchise.

Wow, strangely I find this to be exactly what I would like it to be like excellently done mate.

wow you've really thought this through and it shows some of the ideas you have are brilliant, hope EPIC take note of this thread beacuse you've basically said everything that i hope for
Your world can end in the blink of an eye. One event, one unexpected twist of fate... and suddenly the world as you knew... is gone. Forever. All that you held dear, all that you held close... is washed away in a sea of distant memory. Life... is cruel. Of this I have no doubt. But life continues on... with, or without you. One can only hope that one leaves behind a lasting legacy. But so often, the legacies we leave behind... are not the one we intended

Great post but the main thing you left out was customization in privates and possibly dedicated servers. Epic needs to add a lot of customization so you can tweak the game to your likings, whether it be more like Gow1 or Gow2, to make the game amazing.

Here is a thread showing examples of what there should be: http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=673803

i just think i am in love with this lobby...
    thk you.

only i have two minor points.. cant vote maps not only be for ranked/public?
Because in unranked/private the host could select one starting map, and than you would have that possible whole GREAT map cycle rotation.
so map voting wouldn't be really necessary in a unranked match.

    also:
    what is your take on
    differentiation between gameplay?
    -gow1 gameplay dynamics
    -gow2
-misc/gow3/ maybe a updateable gameplay dynamics.
i couldnt see that option in your very elaborate menu.
    Still great work!!

Would be present, although I did not say clearly. Once created the game can also possible the voting system. ( "In private you can also choose a specific map"). And in the screen it's showed "In the future... Maps" not a specific map

For the gameplay I haven't "created" variations of the actual gameplay. I think those are very solid base, maybe some change could very well stay there.

If you know other topics about GOW3 tell me and I link in the special section

I have not exaggerated by the inclusion of customizable elements, because after all, Gears has his characters well defined.

    Mangled too would be blasphemy

You should send a PM to one of the Mods.
One thing though. About the user created maps, if you can play Horde on them, then achievements shouldn't be unlocked if you play Horde on the custom maps because people could make a big hallway with nothing but Boomshots that spawn.

I could tell Flak. I love that girl

As for Horde on user created maps: If there will be an achievements for Horde on custom maps, then this can be unlocked only with the maps created by users and approved by the EPIC team (this possibility is already described in the "Editor Map" section).

Do you work for EPIC or any other game developer?

If not start applying to them and use this as your port-folio. We need people like you making games not wasting your time giving other game developers ideas.

Hope GoW 3 is like this though

    WOW!

    Enough said.

Not to be the bearer of bad news but EPIC cannot copy anything from this post...

But maybe you INSPIRED EPIC to look into some ideas 'THEY' thought up first...

I love your netcoding ideas. EPIC Win!!!
