    MAP PACK DM-[LEGO] Map pack

I have finished DM-[LEGO] map pack and now its time to share what we tested and polished for the last three months.
All LEGO maps are textured using Lego textures made by BerneyBoy.
All maps are striped down from all meshes and extras in order to gain higher fps and yet preserve game flow as it was originally meant.

Here is the list of maps:

    DM-[LEGO]-1on1-Cipher
This map is part of [LEGO] map pack and it was originally built by me.

These maps are light to download and easy to render, no matter how low spec computer you got; that said there are less chances to get errors like weapon loss and such. (But if you dont play Inv you wouldnt know about it).
In this map pack has two of my own maps as well so you cant say nothing new in here.

    So enjoy.

    Guys, guys, STOP whining.
If you get something for free like this map pack then just say "thank you", its not like you payed for them and now are whining for money back, lol.

Learn to appreciate work of people who contribute in making this game great. No matter how good/bad someones work is you should be gratefull that there are people who actually spend time just to contribute and make this game what is today >>GREAT<<

your contribution is not improving the game though :P if people have such a low spec computer that they cant even play rankin, they wouldnt be still playing ut2004 in the first place, its just more annoying spam maps going on the few ut2k4 servers that are left!

I can appreciate low poly versions, and generally, I do like lego-style maps. The idea you have of stripping down these maps to their core essences is intriguing, and the idea of giving these maps a fresh look is also interesting. So I tried out your versions of rankin and idoma, spectated around the levels and such. But I'm very disappointed.

In my opinion the most important thing to have if you're going to do a low poly bare-bones map is good looking textures. But these textures don't look much like legos or megablocks or anything else. The blocks are very abstract looking, which doesn't have to be a bad thing, but the color choices are very strange. Legos are traditionally made in primary colors, not evergreen or day-glow orange. Texture use in the map is also a problem. I had hoped that the maps would look like they were constructed out of blocks, which could have been achieved with some clever texture and bsp work. Unfortunately, textures of contrasting color textures are applied on adjacent flat surfaces, and places where you would expect overlap don't happen, which completely breaks the illusion that map is made of bricks.

The other problem is that the maps are very drab now, and look the practically same all over. The original versions used static meshes, lighting, and other visual and audio cues to make different parts of the map distinct, and less confusing. I realize the goal of this mapper was to reduce unnecessary meshes, but removing windows and lighting really brings down playability and visual appeal. Even the original Unreal used lighting effects and skyboxes to spruce up maps.
