Red face UT Trainergirl NOW in UT3 (August 2012 update!)

UPDATE AUGUST 2012 - playable beta version of UT TrainerGirl UT3 ready for download!!
    see: http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/...th-team-colors!!

    **

UPDATE JULY 2012 - UT3 polycount is now ~6000, with nice 2048x2048 diffuse, normal, specular maps. Character shows up fine in char select screen, but in-game the texture is blurry. Why? I am using the lazy UT3 single mesh/texture shortcut fwiw.

    **

UPDATE 6/19/09 - she is NOW in UT3! still working out the texture kinks... would smoothing to increase polycount in maya get rid of the lighting/polycrease artifacts in the unreal 3 engine lighting system? thx...jag

Vote yes if you want to see UT Trainergirl return to UT3, remixed!!!

So...anybody remember UT TrainerGirl from UT2004? How can we port this hotness to UT3 if all we have are the compiled UT2004 files?? Anybody willing to lend me a hand...I've been out of the mod scene for a while.. What software, tutorials, etc do I need to read into?

Link to original PolyCount upload, circa 2004!

i dont think you can directly port it over (and it would look ****ty), so you probably need to redo the model in some 3d program. i have no experience with any of those but there is for example 3dsmax (commercial) or blender (free)

i can't find a copy of the original mesh on my hard drive, d'oh! is there a program that can extract meshes from .psk files, or otherwise rip model meshes from video card memory?

i'll ask visimo (original brains and mesh author) and scott ruggels (rigger/scripts) if they have a copy of the original mesh. however, jefe (2009 skin remixer) says he hasn't heard from either of them recently regarding permission to widely distribute his new skins.

Also, I'd love to see these ported too.

There is an app called 3dxripper I believe, couldn't be bothered to google it to be certain as I dislike what it's intended purpose is. I only suggest it because in this case it may be a bit more legit if you cant find those individuals or they don't have it either.

However I fully agree that a port would look odd and vote for a complete remodel.

On a side note my wife still plays ut2k4 using that model because she looked almost exactly like that in highschool. She doesn't view it as disrespectful for a woman to portray women in this manner. She says "the female body is a weapon of mass distraction." I have to agre, it works all to well. She gets more kills when people can see her player model.

I say bring on the female models, from provocative to the more sedate I don't discriminate.

Some others that I would be thrilled to see a revisit...

so it sounds like a high-poly version UT trainer gal is due. would you advise taking the original low-poly mesh and expanding/sculpting polycount from there, or the opposite approach of taking a high-poly female base mdoel and recreating UTgal from that point (basically tacking on low poly armor pieces, UV mapping and quick/dirty skeletal rig)?

My vote on the build method would be from scratch or from modified existing highpoly (if you can find one that works for what you need) as from my expieriance many low poly models aren't going to be designed right to get a good high poly model without more work then just making it yourself.

    My two cents:

This model was originally a study of what could be achieved when making a low-poly model. Bumping up the poly count without a good reason isn't going to help things.

The base parts of the female body shouldn't need that much tweaking for UT3, but perhaps the texture could use some normals for the clothes and hair. I think the armor could be improved with some higher poly modeling and given how ut3's player model system works would be almost needed. Roll the whole thing up in a borderlands-esque cell shader style and you would have one awesome revisit IMHO.

Good to see her in UT3.

Haven't done anything with UT3 yet, but I'm sure you can find a tutorial around on setting up UT3 materials and effects.
