    Map - Warfare (PC) WAR-Convoy W.I.P.

    --- --- --- ---

Happy Fool's Day. Or what's left of it... It's almost over.

Now to the real thing, and this is not joking... I'm gonna start working today on WAR-Convoy for real and tomorrow there's gonna be some pics, so @Flak don't close this, please.

I also wanted to know who of you are waiting for my map. It's nice when you know that some guys are expecting something you're working on and they give you incentives and comments of your job...

    So, see you tomorrow. .

How close to the UT2004 map will it be? Will you try to redo the 'Assault' of the level or convert it to a normal Warfare level?

Be sure to include the original music from it too. Its one of the best tracks in UT2 in my opinion. ;D

Wow, I didn't think that would be so quick. Keep the feedback, I want this thread flooded.

It wont be that close to AS-Convoy. It's gonna be more like a reason why Assault isn't needed. My concept will be a lot far from that UT2k4 map. All the vessels from the left side of the big one are gonna be put out and replaced by other vessels with a platform to make the map a little symmetrical.

Now, I know most of you are waiting for not a remake, but an import. But let's face it, this map can't be like that. If it would, the blue team would get some advantage. And it wouldn't feel fair. BTW, a while ago I created a request thread for this map and described my vision with lot's of detail. Check it out! Everyone said "do it yourself", so here's the start.

If some of you are expecting exactly the same map, still don't feel like this map won't be good. See it from the other side. And that's cos this is my first try on an editor and only with your help I'll be able to do the job.

I've got a little question: Do we need to pick materials and meshes and copying them to a package we create in the same folder as your map file, or the editor does that job when we compile the map? If we need to, how?

to answer you last question, no you don't need to copy the content to a map package. You really shouldn't mess around editing the .upk files anyways. Just select the mesh or material or whatever and put it in your level, the editor does the rest. If you want custom content then that can go in a map package or in a made up package if you want it separate.
Please support the UT3 community both on the PC and PS3.

Hey, folks, the W.I.P. thread of WAR-Convoy is rising again.

I stopped this project a little after I started it, because of all the work that various school teachers were giving me. Now I'm on my summer vacation, so I got plenty of time to get my hands on the editor again.

The map that I was working on (and there's a pic on post #7) was erased, because of both the fact that I knew so little was done and I wouldn't touch it again soon, and that various friends of mine, that never saw an editor, gave a valuable tip: Brush work first, and meshing after.

With that tip I just had an idea: to be sure that my map doesn't die soon after a released, I'm launching an unmeshed version for gameplay test, weapon placement test and for you to give ideas about certain mesh placement.

I'm sure most of you are thinking "Yo, UT2k4 Convoy was the one, bla bla bla", but at least give me a chance. With proper support, I think this version will succeed. For example, I'm thinking about some cool effects and stuff, but I need some guy who's a pro on kismet and movement, and all that. I tried to watch the video tutorials, but I have this poor pen-based net, and the written tutorials are done by people who know that stuff for people that know that stuff. I don't have any problem with English, but some things could be better explained.

That was it! Sorry for the wall text. Feedback on your thoughts encouraged.

Hey snorkelbottom. Digging up old dirt on me?

Firstly, thanks for the friendship request.

And about the map, I lost my free time and the little work that I had was terrible, so it was all deleted. But finally since February 1st I have some time again. So I'm on the editor again.

From when I decided to do this map to now, I've been brainstorming and brainstorming how this Assault map would feel good in Warfare and look good in UT3, and make it an evolution of the original. Right now my concept is far more evolved than what I had in mind in the date of this thread's #9 post. I also have some ideas for a WAR-Junkyard, a WAR-Mothership and a WAR-Overlord.

The problem is I can't promise anything right now. I don't know how long my free time is available or if I'll have the patience. But I'll try my best. I'll work on some maps I have from other guys, and improve them (I won't release anything because I know I can't and I don't want to anyway), and then I'll see what I can do.

BTW it looks like I'm being too "open", but the forums are deserted anyway.

    Peace out.
