    Default My Video Tutorials

The last few months I have been working on video tutorials for UT3, still have many more to go. But I have a good amount of them up so far and they are updated on a regular basis with new tutorials. Right now its at about 13 tutorials from boxing out levels to creating materials, lifts etc.

    Always nice to have...Thanks!

Trying to search for something specific is not always user friendly.

Yeah I am trying to cover as much as I can, I plan on making more detailed ones later that will be put into DVD's but that is a ways off.

If anyone has anything they would like to see in a video tutorial that would be great. I will be setting up a request a tutorial link on my site in the near future.

Thanks for creating them to help out the community. I will check them out and add them to my tutorial list. As a suggestion, if you can cover topics that haven't been covered in any type of tutorial, that's always best.

Video tutorials have been set to registered only. I had to make this change to help site performance it's been put under heavy stress lately. The support from the community for making the video tutorials has been great! I hope everyone understands that I need to keep site performance up to keep the videos streaming fast for everyone. Registering is free so don't worry about anything like that.

I've check the postprocess tuts today.

I must say that the part # 1 isn't really informative & could be easily integrated in part # 2.

Also, in part # 2, you show some stuff but it's not really in deep. I mean, the general idea of "mess around with the settings to obtain whatever affects & see by yourself" is not helpful. And you can 100% assume that what everybody is gonna do that.

It would be more helpful if you can describe what settings do what in game. My English is not to bad but not good enough to be comfortable to do what i want just by reading the settings parameters & I'm not the only one like that. So i need videos & more indeep tuts to understand what I'm doing.

For example, for under water, it's more likely to use this &/or that. For a techy room, these settings is very common, for wide open area, this is a good choice, etc.

I'm not complaining but since you take the time to do some tuts, I would find them more useful to understand what is the true purpose of that settings instead of just messing around.

Thanks for the feedback on those, I will go back through them and revise them. The reason I split them into 2 parts is to keep file size down on each file they get really large fast.

The thing with postprocess volumes is there is no real set standard for the effects for wide open areas opposed to a smaller room. Its really all about the effect you want to achieve. Would it be helpful if I went over something to simulate a haze, or a hot environment?

    No prob.

Indeed, it would be a good idea. I know you just can't make something for "at large" but still we need something to start, & after the mapper gonna mess with the good settings without being loss in a pletora of useless settings.

like what is the most common settings for :

haze, hot distorsion, under water, etc.

Since I presume that for whatever effects you searching to achieve, only this or that will do the job, like blur or dof.

I did watch the Heighfog tut. THX for making it

I have a question about it. If I want the heightfog to last only like 2048, 4096 in height, I see the "ExtinctionDistance" field but whatever value I choose, it doesn't show in the map ???

The ExtinctionDistance is a bit funky. At a certain value, it's hard to see a difference. As far as determining the values of how far the fog will go, you can't really do that for the X and Y axis. Where ever you place your actor is where the Z axis will stop.

You can place multiple height fog actors. The top one will be visible until it reaches the one below it and that will take effect. On my list, Hourences has a tutorial that covers assorted fog techniques.

About others tuts, if you can do tuts about optimizations like culldistancevolume & lightmaps I would appreciate greatly I'll need something to guide me about that in my next map

Added a new tutorial to day. It goes over setting up maya's grid units to match UT3. Also goes over making custom collision for these meshes.

Still working on some of the suggested tutorials also guys.

Just to let you know (since I am subscribed to this thread). I will be adding your tutorials to my list when ever you update this thread.

It would be nice if people could make some Blender/GIMP tutorials that relate to the editor.

Well, if you can't see the red builder brush, try pressing the "B" key as it toggles it off and on. Be careful not to randomly press keys while editing as they can toggle other things on and off.

There is a little drop down arrow that when selected, will show you everything that is toggled on/off. There is also an option to restore the default "flags".

If you can see it, but can't move it. There is a button that looks like a mouse pointer. If this is selected, you won't be able to move things. This button is useful if you want to select a lot of stuff, but don't want them to accidentally move while selecting them.

I wanted to ask a very minor question...

In your tuts, your mouse pointer is huge and easy to follow, is this something we can use by the editor UI or it's simply your WinVista pointer ?

I like to play the guessing game. I think it's a feature of what ever program is using to record his videos. I have a program called CamStudio which does this same thing. I have only messed around with it though. I don't know if I would want to do a video tutorial (at least with me speaking). Wouldn't mind adding text to the screen.

Yeah I can't ever go back to XP, I like my 8gigs of ram plus you just can't beat photoshop cs4 with it's x64 support. Makes things run great. Although I am looking forward to windows7 been running the beta on my laptop the things just amazing.

Well upgrading (even with a full version of Vista 32bit, sucks. Windows 7 looks interesting and may jump to it if it's worth it. But it will take a lot of positive "press" for that to happen.

Just FYI, Windows 7 is mainly Windows Vista+ with a less restrictive rights managements.

Microsoft will do every thing they possibly can to make good advertizement of that product & pay reviewers as they always did in the past to make there product look better than the competition (Linux/Mac OSX) & there previous product.

The bad news is that the average user will have to switch to Windows 7 since the XP support end around 2010 & around 2014 for the enterprises. The days of vista where already counted before the product reach the OEM's. At least, this is what as been oficially announced last year.

I've checked out a few of your tutorials, have been helpful, thanks a lot. I would suggest you use a better flash player, like one that allows you to enlarge the video larger. Also if you did bullet points about technical information that is presented in the videos to make taking notes easier. For example, grid sizes and naming conventions are better conveyed through text.

    thanks! and good job

I think it is a good idea doing this. Not only is accessible to all but it also provides the right amount of tutoring to help beginners really understand the whole concept of the game.
