Well i dont know what all these letters and numbers mean
so can someone please tell me if my connections any good and if i should host or host less?

Im gonna say yes as i used to host private on gears 1 with a 500Kb upload with no lag for anyone but it was all UK players so i dunno how it will be for a mixture

That is very low. You on DSL? IF you are behind a Router make sure you open all Microsoft Ports. Make sure your NAT in XBL is OPEN.

Here's my test from work. I'm behind a very restricted Firewall and some site blocker program and still managed to get a higher upload than you. Top it all off, my test was 2700 miles away yours was only 100miles.

So in short, please don't Host.

but how do you open all the microsoft ports?

I dont know man some peolpe sayi have a good connection and some peolpe say i have a bad connection. I dont get which one is it

Your connection is good for local hosting, like within Cali or just the west coast in general.

Regarding the Ports, there is a Sticky somewhere on this site that directs you to the "How To" location for port forwarding.

Do me a favor, do another test but this time pick a spot somewhere on the US east coast.

Wow, thanks for giving the man advice on what a good hosting speed would be, your constructive help is greatly appreciated. Oh wait, you're just over-critical.

So anyway, does anyone have any tips for best gaming connection? Certain routers, cables, ISP, etc... I only have an upload of about 750kbs, so I avoid hosting as much as possible, but I'd like to know how I can boost that so that if a public match makes me host, all the people playing don't have to suffer...

I play on a 1 Mbps connection and I can host all players just fine. It's not about connection speed. The reason you can get extreme lag is because of:

1. Networking problems
2. Playing a Mexican ( no offense )
3. Host is downloading porn while playing.

There's a reason why your xbox stops downloading things off the marketplace when you play multiplayer...

I think I am pretty suitable to host.. 700ish a second at 5200 miles away..

I live on the west coast in Oregon.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/412225770.png theres mine and i always seem to host matches perfectly fine.. and omega, the reason yours is that fast is because your work probably has a corporate line for your internet, my school has speeds higher then that, but for residential.. 10mb dl and 1mb is i think the highest you can get without spending too much

The REAL reason why lag occurs is because of the HOSTS UPSTREAM, not upload but, UPSTREAM

If this game is doing what it SHOULD be doing you will NEVER get host, there are far better connections out there that will permit everyone in the game to NOT lag.

lol I don't hate you, nor did I say you need host. I am just saying don't count on getting host if they fix this game and make it pick the best connection because it most likely will NOT be someone with DSL.

man relax these guys prolly dont have that much better connections than u. Urmost likely arejust fine to host wit out much problems. Just dont download anything whileplaying especially if ur hosting

What is it with this kind of reply? Unfortunately for you I do have a much better internet connection and it kills me that people with such crap for speeds are getting host and making everyone lag.

My speeds are 24mbps download and 3.5mbps upload. So tell me again I don't have a better connection. I have played as host and had other players on my team think THEY were host because of how little lag there is. That is how this game should be played. Not on some laggy DSL connection.

if they made this game play like cod4, then having someone on dsl host wouldn't even really be THAT bad. i'd still rather have someone on cable do it.
