"You cannot run the game with modified executable code..." WTF help please!

Microsoft made a TU3 patch that is intended to work for CD version of the game that is getting this problem, but it also worked flawlessly on my vista 64bit computer for a downloaded version off of trymedia

its simple download it, double click to extract and install and the game will pop up and never give you this issue again.

I have created a .bat file that will let the game run.... the problem is an expired
certificate...

This works on XP x64 with install at default folder...you may need to edit bat file to reflect your install folder if not default.

The batch file does 4 things
1. gets current system date.
2. changes system date to 01-01-08(prior to certificate expiration).
3. Starts Game.
4. restores system date upon game exit.

After six months back last night as the date of issue was resolved and I was able to play the game. Thanks goodness ^.~

Ok guys I've just read through this entire thread because I've had the exact same problem with this executable code BS, i still have the game but haven't played it for months so in summary... what patch solves the problem, if a patch doesn't solve the problem then what does.

snorkelbottom , if you want this .bat file to play gow let me know , I know it works on xp x64 and it might work on vista . I would upload the file for anyone to download but I'm not sure where i can upload it to.
It's a simple bat file that grabs the system date and stores it to a variable then changes the system date to 01-01-08 and starts the game, when you exit the game it restores the date back to the original system from the variable ... Only problem i can see is if you start the game before midnight and stop it after midnight the system date may be off by one day. you can right click and edit the file to reflect the path to your program folder and change the date the game runs on if desired. big joe at youremailaddress@insightbb.com

I downloaded the windows live patch and everything seems to be working fine.

However, if i've read it right, the patch (which installs a new certificate so you can play the game) runs out after 22nd january 2010, WTF

Big Joe patch don't expire , it's only for single player and it simply stores the current system date to a variable , changes the system date to 1-1-08, changes to the game directory , launches the game and after you exit the game it restores the system date to the variable stored date. Besides being only able to play in single player, the only other problem that you may encounter is if you start playing before midnight and exit game after midnight the system date may be one day off.........works on xp x64 with default install path... may work on 32bit...right-click batch file and choose edit and change game install directory path . just put batch file on desktop and use it to run game...

copy the below text and paste in notepad, when saving to desktop change file type from .txt to all files and in file name add .bat on the end of it....

Neither the bat file, nor the Gears_PC_TU3 file fix my game. I see the GEARS_PC_TUX running in taskmanager, and a UPDTATE~2 file starts with it.

Kinda funny, I thought this game was worth $12, not such a deal anymore.

i kinda last minute bought tis game and ive installed it and,wen it started for the 1st time,i clicked the button and ticked updates buttons,so the game dont start and giving message " the modified exe" thing,ive changed the date,bt it still doenst work 4 me,i get the updates,bt i cant install it.it said ive lost my old file,and rite now ,after i reinstalled again,the same thing happen..my comp specs is xp sp3,ati radeon 4800 512mb,2.o ghz ram..its kinda lame cz the gow2 already out,and i still didnt start the first gow..can anyone helped me??

( I installed TU3 like 400 times and GOW didn't run, reinstalling GOW doesn't help, set the date back you get the 'double click error'...)

In Windows: right mouse click , then extract here (desktop). You then see an 'update' file. Click that and it will auto-install the patch. Never mind the 'update 2' file, after install you can delete all files from your desktop.

I'm guessing that only works for some people. I just downloaded TU3 from your link and it installed no problems. No extracting required.

At long last I can play Gears again! After hours of toying and changing time and date! Wooo! Thank you so much for your post.

This is incredible, why are people still getting this problem more than a year later? I've reinstalled the game three times and I've been stressing over this for almost four hours today.

Thanks for the response! Though that was the first thing I downloaded before I recieved the game in the mail, as well as having the latest games-for-windows live client already installed on my computer.

This will not be necessary anymore, I have successfully got the game working by uninstalling the asusupdater. Not sure why the patch wouldn't install or even say anything when I flashed my bios the 6 times I did it this week.

I have the eastern european version of GoW. it wont let me install the latest patch. the game starts fine in Dx9 mode but!

as i have to reset my system clock, i cannot signin to Live...

any solution to that?

Try to get folder "Bin" from gears folder from other who has installed patch.

The patch fixes a DRM certificate issue. The security certificate expired on January 27th 2009 for some reason hence why you got that error before. The patch fixed this issue
