1 Year after the flooding of Jacinto.
It was a warm summer day for me. It was the best time of year for me, because it was around 75 degrees everyday it made patroling standable. We were coming up on the jail, and saw a fight break out. We payed no mind to this meer distraction and went on walking. We were used to feeling siecmic activity so it did not affect us like it did the new guys. We new if it was a grub-hole or not, and we rarely experienced them.
We were waling all day as usaual, boring days streched into weeks, into months, into years-painstakingly slow. We rarely had three meals a day, and all we had were our ration packs-none of the sweets we had before the war. I had always been an optimist-that was changing slowely though. We always had water-always, if a squad member had non it was considered dangerous and you all had to give a little to the soldier in need. For us it was always Pvt. Hegzui. He would always go through about six water bottles a-day, every else on the other hand only about two-three at a max. He would complain of an irretating burn in his throat, or , " Oh no I am getting de-hydrated! I need water. PLease! Please! Please! " No-one liked him-it;s a wonder he was married. She must of been anoying too.
" Um guys. He whimpered. I need some water- uuh, "
" We alreafy gave you a pint today. How much more you need ? " Craig asked, the squad tech.
He replied with his normal excuse " I am new though... you have to give me some water-please-I'll report you.
" Who gives a rats ass if you report us? " I said loudly.
" Uh-bu
" But nothing ass dick you are going to kill us one day if you keep taking our water! "
" So I have a-
" Shut the **** up! "
" If you told anyone we would all deny it- three against one. " I screamed athourativly.
We walked on arguing all day long--he was not helping his chances...we did not get along-we were taking him to HQ- to get him transfered.
