Problem starting split screen co op

So i got me and my friends box's hooked up. Get into came one of us hosts a coop game and the other joins. The hosted game shows up and buddy tries to join it and something pops up and says "you do not have the newest version of the game, get a newer version". How do I do this? Does he need to have an xbox live account to get an update or something? I have live and he doesn't. How do I fix this?

Sounds to me like he don't have the update. Since it was a patch to fix multiplayer mainly i would say thats the issue. Having a xboxlive silver account should allow him to download the content. Also, make sure he's not being an idiot like my friend was... make sure he's got his GoW2 disc and not 1.. long story, and my friend will never live it down lol
