    Map - Capture the Flag (PC) CTF-Sundog (Beta) [Pics]

    Name: Sundog Falls
    Version: Beta
    Compatibility: PC
    Description: The palatial retreat at Sundog Falls was captured by a Liandri Special Ops team operating outside normal jurisdictional boundaries. The retreat has been added to the Tournament rotation and is rapidly becoming known as one of the more difficult arenas in which to achieve victory without overtime.

    Updates: A lot of things have been updated: Trees and landscaping planters removed. Front stairs of bases widened. Front "porches" of bases enlarged. Health vials removed. Overwhelmingly loud sound effects lowered in volume. Grass was mowed. Jumpboots added and a center platform added to make moving across map easier for everyone except the flag carrier. Post process lighting and effects adjusted. Many translocator paths eliminated. UDamage and Berserker spots added. Plus a few other things....

    16 Dec 2008 - Fixed some collision issues (falling through the ground!).

    Fixed. Don't know what the problem was. They would work, then not, then work. I've moved them and they seem to be better now.

    Yeah, it looks a bit better in-game. I was going for the "sun through the clouds" look and then added height-fog when I added the waterfall. That changed the look a little bit, too.

    Just changed the link to point to the new download file. I added some of the eye candy that I had been planning on putting in. Still waiting on some feedback. I see that the file's been downloaded a few times. If anyone sees anything wrong, or something they would like to see different, please don't hesitate to let me know. I don't just make maps to make me happy; I want other people (YOU) to enjoy them!

    When I entered the game I was like "Omg home sweet home.Time to take off the rust from these weapons" and I was right.First 10-15 seconds I was still walking around without any knowledge where I am and after that the melee started.32 players+ this map=SICK battles.Had some great fun with it and didn't find any bugs.Except that I think one of the blue elevators got activated once while I was in feign death which shouldn't happen.I tried several more times on the same elevator but it didn't and after a while it did again.If I'm right the character has to be exactly in the centre for it to work dunno if it happens only to me.Nevertheless that was the only problem and it's not game ruining.But the stairs for the bases-too many times I fell off after an incorrect dodge.It shouldn't be made that tough.And I think those trees and tall grass next to the stairs just ruin it.I got stuck there quite enough times.If I were you I'd enlarge the stairs Excellent map-bookmarked for sure!!! Keep up the good work !!! <3

    1st off its cool to see some larger CTF levels (now we just need more players to play them!)

    think this one has alot of potential and is pretty cool on a number of levels... reminds me a bit of a UT map called Chasm in the layout (looks nothing like it, Chasm was a dark bombed out urban map with a couple bridges crossing (you guessed, a chasm!) but the scale a layout reminds of it a bit and i loved that map...

    played a couple games offline with it and it runs well, looks good - the large level design feels right, not overdone and almost feels like it has a 'purpose' maybe based on a real design or some kinda future tech or alien architecture mixture?

    so again i really like the scale, (always liked large ctf maps) weapon placement and ammo avail is pretty good. would have to play more with real players to decide there.

    2 "knocks" ... i thought there was a bit too many vials laying around. i understand its big but with the keg and armor and belt that should be enough, maybe a few less vials, also makes it look cluttered...
    and the ambient sounds seemed a bit loud (i just realized i play without music on so maybe under a music track - if you have one - they wouldnt be so loud?)

    didnt look too hard for bugs but i found i can get up on the roof of the bases easily, which i like (on a map this size they should be useable), but im guessing you didnt finish up there or didnt intend ppl to go up there cause i can fall/jump off the back of the bases and off the map (not good)
    on the roof, i can shoot through the grating above the flag but i cant drop down or throw the TL through (which was disappointing (that would make a nice if long way around sneak attack in) so i vote to keep roof access but close off the back of the base so you cant fall off the map!

    the grassy areas on either side of the main base entrance might be a spot to put some kinda health or ammo, theres nothing else there and its way out of the way, so maybe thigh pads or helmet get put there so you actually have to go out of your way to get them? (grassy areas against the base walls)

    anyway i like it and look forward to seeing a finished version - again, nice work!

    SunDog = Sirrius?

    (edit) ps. maybe a sound/fx is due when you enter the globe around the flag (sorta like whats done in ctf-strident if you enter the glowing figures?)

    Made a few more changes since the last post, including some post-processing that really helped the look of it. I think the bloom effect might be a little strong, though. If anyone has an opinion on it, please tell me. Thank you!

    Now THIS is extreme evolution! The map in my opinion got a lot better.The bloom effects make it sorta exotic.Wonderful! But there's this problem that if you happen to escape the enemy base properly you can almost certainly run safely to your base.I think that you should put ...hm dunno probably a jumppad that's not easy to reach but gets you on the other side or something like that.But at the moment this map is awesome! Thanks for listening to mi advice about the flat space and the stairs! This way I got some insane battles.I'm surely gonna test it in multiplayer Excellent work!

    Cool Thanks to the testers....

    I just realized that I've publicly thanked UnrealGrrl for play testing and suggestions, but had only been contacting Dopemgs in PM. I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank Dopemgs, too!

    It's only by having those special few people in these forums that are willing to play and give feedback on beta-release maps that these maps get better. I can think the map is going really well, but when others play the level, they see things that I don't. Relying on yourself to make your maps the best they can be is sort of like masturbation - you can get to a finished product, but it's never going to be as good as having someone else involved.

    And the feedback I got from Dopemgs and UnrealGrrl was constructive criticism. It actually helped. Thankfully, the vast majority of the critical comments I read in these forums is helpful and constructive (on other designers' levels, too) - that's why I stay in here and post my maps as beta releases here. This community as a whole is terrific!

    this game is slowly dieing not many pll are on this forum that why it hard too get some feedback

    i have play this map and it great 1 thing that a anoing me that big round thing on the flag make too mutch sound its too loud

    Fixed. Thanks for finding that! I haven't seen any bots go down that way and I've never fallen through it. At least, not until you pointed it out and I tried walking where you indicated - then down I went!

    Fixed file is available for download, original links changed to point to new file.
