Map - Deathmatch (PC) DM-AudioRoyalleDeluxe [Download!]

    Name: DM-AudioRoyalleDeluxe
    Version: Cooked Version 1.0
Compatibility: Built on UT3 1.3, but should be okay on others.
Description: A high-class nightclub with a dynamic environment.
Comments: This is the updated, optimized, polished and cooked version of the original. Though the prettier face is not the only difference. many areas received a re-arrangement for better gameplay as well.

There are a number of such "hot Saturns", but HD 149026b is so far unique. It has been described as a "hell planet", being charcoal black in color and a burnt magma hue in starlight. Surface temperatures are above the boiling point of lead.

I'm a mapper. I'm trying to be a good mapper. I'm getting there.

I am posting my thoughs because I hope you practice what you "put in your signature". I also like the "spirit" behind your quote.

This and the original map are a mixed bag for me with things to like and not like.

    Don't like:
    1. I am not a big fan of the setting (casino) for this game as it seems way out of place.
    2. The layout is too consistant with an actual casino and doesn't offer much in the way of gameplay. Add the wide open dance floor area and the map seems like it was made for R6: Vegas, not UT.
    3. The deluxe version lags waaay too much. My computer should easily handle any map at the medium settings (which i ran the map on), but this map easily dipping into the mid twenties, which isn't a good thing.
    4. The lighting/bloom/effects can be a bit too distracting from the limited gameplay the map offers.

    Do like:
    1. From a visual standpoint, the map is freaking cool. I love the updated effects and atmosphere!
    2. The potential for a good DM map to be placed is a very modern and realistic setting (casino). For this to work, I think the map needs more levels/stairs to allow for z-axis fighting. The casino elements can still be there, but it has to be a fun map to play first, make it look nice/cool/ect, second.

I know you have skills with the editor and various other programs. I can tell you take care in making your maps. I respect all of these points. But for me, the map is more of a show case of visual and technical talents than a fun map to play (layout and too many effects to lower FPS). Ironically, I will keep this map on my drive, but it's mainly to appreciate the visuals, so I won't be adding any bots when I "play" it.

Hey, I appreciate the feedback, and mostly I try to make beautiful maps that have enough gameplay to not bore the player. I'm sorry to hear about the framerate issues, as my comp is ancient and runs most everything slowly: Optimizing for me is like a colorblind person trying to pick a good shade of maroon. I think you know exactly what I am: An artist who uses maps to showcase work. What I might consider doing in the future is teaming up with a good gameplay designer and working exclusively as an artist. Thanks for the feedback: I'm glad you enjoyed the visuals.

That's what I thought and that's cool. I am jack of some trades, master of none. I tend to like to build maps more for the technical/quality construction side. I need to learn how to make a good gameplay map and that will be the focus of my next map.

Though I wonder with a little "studying", how good of a gameplay map you could make? That with your artistic skills would be a nice map indeed.

Yea I am liking the modeling and textures. I could not tell if you used normal maps or not? The texture animations along with the moving lights were all spot on. I do not get why it was so laggy.I do think the layout design is great! Continue making maps and improving

in any way, awesome artistic works on this map dude

For the next one, keep your artistic talent but think also to the flow/gameplay on it according to DM

Its a little heavy on the graphics for gameplay but the graphics are so good I just cant bare to play it on low settings.

It does look like the perfect place for after tournament bar fights.

One thing you could do if your into art and desighn rather than technical stuff is makeing content packs for us to use in our maps.

    Hey

I finally had the time to try the map

Man, you did a massive amount of work with that map ! I can't figure out how you did to make the equalizer & the speaker animate like that ???!!! Very imaginative I assume the rhythm & the movement can't be synchronous since the animation is offbeat but damn, it is very nice

I must say that the atmosphere is very well done. The map is very well done in all.

Therefore, I have some things that IMO could make it a bit better.

    1) The dance floor is very wide, it need some "skydance" &/or upper dancing plateform.

    2) The sniper is not a good idea. If someone is very skillful with that weapon (like some fellows I know), nobody as a chance to survive on the dance floor since there is any protection at all. That weapon could be replace by the dual enforcer or 1-2 25 health or a small armor if you move things around a tiny bit.

    3) The small armor on the dance floor don't worth the risk to go there. I would tend to place the vest or the belt & leave the helmet/tights where the sniper is.

    4) The music is nice (I love electronic music to) but the length is very short, it could last longer so it will feel less repetitive. You can choose a track that last like 8-10 mins which is very easy to find in electronic songs.

    5) Last small thing, the text file is very "nude". A bit more info will be appreciated.

In all, it is a fun map & the amount of work is phenomenal !

It is not in my top picks but it is fun, so I will suggest it in my other picks.

    THX for the map

very nice mate, i like both but this one definitely has more of a "club" feel. I dont know why the slot machines went, and since yad made the meshes anyhow could have turned em into video games or vending machines. Lol thats the worst ive got on it... just brilliant mate

This map is absolutely beautiful. I like the gameplay, but I too have frame rate issues. I can play any map I've downloaded here without any problems on medium settings. The frame rate on this one make it almost unplayable on my machine though. Get the FPS up and it will be in my top twenty DM maps. It is graphically one of the best

I agree with the FPS issue. I average around 20-30 fps when I normally average 60-90.

    It's a awesome map though.

Red face Excellent map to the max!

This map is very like the phenomenal disco zone of the 70s to the present or something like European music nightclub. The colors are bright but I can see clearly on my hindsight through the limited amount of time with aiming. Love the floor/wall reflections, diner areas, speakers, chairs, lighting assets, auditorium setting and slot machine in the casino; but, stills missing the recommended player load and some effects are keeping distasteful due to the framerate is almost weak. One exception about the dance floor, needs more scaling and the small armor/thigh should amended to be replaced by any powerup item or a sniper (somebody's listening to Madonna music). Anyway, gotta love the atmosphere, visuals, gameplay and the bots are decent.

    Smile nice visuals!

This one needs player load and author in preview shot; lots of color, bright lights, fitting music (for details see previous poster), so Let's Dance! I thought this was more of a disco or dance club than a casino and this is best played with no bloom, etc. The gameplay is wide-open mostly and could be a little better and the bots are decent, but make sure you jump over the rails. I didn't notice any lagging on my 3-year old system. This one seems to be shock-dominated and I think the sniper rifle should be replaced with the rocket launcher or another flak cannon.

    * these little reviews= great ; it is reviving some nice maps i have never seen before
    @SkaarjMaster
    - any comments pertaining to "weapon specifics" - remember the mutator "weapon replacement" - this will solve your grief.
    - also note sniper and shock are hitscan weapons
    SteveLois "keep them balanced"
big thanks for the little reviews

    Cool

I'm just commenting in generel without any mutators, but I did not know about that mutator. As a matter of fact, I need to try out more of the default mutators.
