Default should my 12yr old be playing?

not sure about him playing this game because there is a lot of violence involved. he says he likes to play the game that only has bugs and or insects that he shoots up...what is your take on him playing this game and could anyone tell me a little more about what part of the game he is talking about? thank you.

It's pretty violent. It all depends on the person. Some people don't let violence affect them, other go out an recreate the violence for some strange reason. 12 years is old enough to know what is a game and what doesn't apply to reality and it's old enough to know the rules of society, so maybe it's not that bad. The game does have a Mature 17+ rating for a reason. It's the same concept as taking a 12 year old to an R rated movie. If you're comfortable with that, then this shouldn't be an issue. Though it should be noted that a game has you performing cruel and gruesome acts while a movie only has you watch them.

But yes, the game is very violent. The "bugs" are a humanoid race called "Locusts", and he'll be chainsawing them into pieces, stomping their heads in, and shooting them with guns and flamethrowers and watching them squirm as they burn to death. That's assuming he doesn't take it online and fight people. Then he may be killing the humans as well, not to mention the foul language people use.

I would rather not see anymore 12 year olds online myself, but it's because they usually lack maturity and ruin my experience with their selfish attitudes, poor sportsmanship, and foul mouthes(it's like they just discovered profanity and they are eager to use it!). But the same can be said about many "adults" as well.

And this is posted in the wrong game section.

thanks for the input...i'm not that privy to the game and need the insite from all of you users. he keeps telling me that the locusts are not the bad part of the game. i will take another look at it an make a decision. i know it is M rated for a reason, but the way my older daughter put it was that it wasn't very violent playing the locusts. thanks again.

Sounds like you're in the wrong section.
This is the UC2 section, but the "Locust" are from Gears of War.

The "Locust" are pale-skinned, scaly, underground monsters that appear vaguely humanoid.
Gears can be very gory, but it's done in an intentionally over the top manner.
Still, you're crushing heads and chainsawing enemies in half (potentially super-hero proportioned humans in armor if you're playing as the Locust) blowing them to highly detailed pieces with grenades and splattering their heads with explosive arrows and sniper shots.
It's all very graphic and detailed, but it's also very over the top and somewhat stylized.

The locust also consist of other, less humanoid monsters, including flying squid-like creatures, mole-like critters that run up to you and explode, and giant T-Rex like beasts with chainguns and rocket launchers strapped to them.

Does any one know where the love of God goes When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay If they'd put fifteen more miles behind 'er.
They might have split up or they might have capsized; They may have broke deep and took water.
And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

He doesnt sound that mature he is trying to twist you and deceive you into letting him have the game.I wouldnt advise letting him have it.Its one of the goriest games ive seen just below the punisher but above ut3.But its your decision if you think he is mature enough then let him have it or make him wait till he is 15.And in gears of war its violent fighting almost everything.

The game is very violent. You'd better not let him have it now, since he does not sound that mature.Wait for his maturity.
