    The arena is now more opened then in Trite, for more z-axis action.
    JumpBoots & LiftJumps bring lots of ways to move across the map.

    While I enjoyed your Instinct remake, I can't really say the same for Spliff. It seems unfinished to me and the 2 day build time may be a reason.

    That being said, here is my constructive feedback.

    If the map is faithful to the original layout, you have to take this comment with a grain of salt. It seems like the layout is a bit too simple and open at times. It could use a few more closed spaces.

    The lighting is way to evenly too evenly lit. While this doesn't hurt gameplay, it doesn't help your map look better than it could. There is way too much yellow lighting, which needs to be broken up with another color.

    While making a BSP for better frame rates is understandable, this map would run well in Doom. The reasons why the HOLP maps work is that BSP doesn't equal simplicity in design. There are places where the map looks too basic for a modern game like UT 3.

    I have hopes for the map, but in it's current state, I find it hard to come up with enough reasons to keep on the hard drive. I think more time with the layout, adding more BSP, and some lighting polishing would really help the map out.

    This I can understand. But I do like the potential of the map, I just think it can be better. Is it a bad thing to post constructive criticism or is that agains the forum rules?

    im difrent then most level designers around here. i dont build around "ONLY" a nice lookin constrution idee. i plan & build to provide the best action gameplay that i can implent.

    ....its a fakt that some peps around here got 4-5 AMAZING lookin maps, just that not even 1 of it is PLAYABLE! there is more to it then just puzzlin with some static mashes.

    Personally I didn't think his criticizm was off-point. He was stating his opinion and also backing it up with examples to help you out.
    If you can't take criticizm then don't post maps here. Plus at least he tried your map before criticizing....unlike my map which you criticized yet didn't actually try it and stated you wouldn't....

    Mappers need good beta testers who provide feedback to help them improve. Good beta testers who provide good feedback through this forum are rare atm. Maybe this rareness is from mappers having an attitude like what you've shown in this thread.....

    odedge i would love feedback like that next time i post a beta pleeeeeeease, something more than "needs more meshes" for alpha's or the very encouraging but not particularly helpful "looks good"

    odedge criticsm about more BSP would be really a good idee if i want to make it a map for better bot play.
    therfore yeah he maybe made me really think about some details.
    thx

    still i build it for PvP battles and so it should be better the way it is: an wide open arena with still enuff cover.
    this sucks a lil vs bots at high skill lvls. i know! but its straight more fun wit a friend of urs.

    It's not that you made it essentially out of BSP, the HOLP maps do that and they look very polished. Your map could have used a little more time to polish it.

    That's fine too, but that doesn't mean the lighting has to be so even. You could break it iup the intensity of the light as this weould reflect how lighting actually works (ie light is never so evenly cast from a light source).

    I can see that. Your level has a lot more game play value than a lot of other maps that look better because of a lot of mesh work and post processing volumes. But don't think that anyone is above constructive criticism. My comments are always meant to help you improve, not to "put down" your work.

    I wonder if this is a growing trend. I also received this kind of "flack" from another mapper. All I did was post constructive criticism and he acted like I call his mother a bad name. Even if the map is a final release, the author may do a SE or the comments may help them with a new map. So comments should always be welcomed, not just the typical "great map", which isn't really helpful. If it's great, why do you think that.

    Just because it's "ol scool" doesn't mean you have to pretend it's 1987. Even back in UT99, the lighting and BSP work was more polished.

    Just PM. I usually don't beta test maps as I need to allocate my time enought to actually make maps. And as you can see, I won't just say something unhelpful as "nice map" or "map sux". I will give the best possible feedback I can.

    I just got done posting, read this post and had to edit my post. Now that you explained (maybe I didn't see this in your original post) why the map is open and why you won't change it (which I understand why you wouldn't).

    u got humor & discassin this map with u will improve it & my future workflow.

    i would normaly start workin on a SE directly, its just that im on a tour till next weekend.

    here r my idees for SE:
    - lightwork (smother & more organical)
    - i got plans to extend the runway from the flak to the bio gun. maybe bring even in a midhigh runway that connects the 2 rooms. this would also change the complete structure, cos im thinkin of a oval form, somethin like a curved street that is connectin the 2 rooms.
    -also i got plans of bringen in 2 platforms (1 in every room, at snipergrounds lvl) in the small room this platform whould be rechable wit a walldouge & provide more "asasination". in the big room the platform would be lockted near a wall between the midarmor & the stinger. this 2nd platform will only be rechable with a perfekt liftjump or with jumpboots. this would implent new move-variations and also "fill" the room a bit more.

    ODEDGE what do think about this?
    and what would be ur idees?
    also every1 else is welcome to discasse here some idees for SE.
    plz just discripe a lil more exactly what u think needs a polish.

    I will give you some of my thoughts soon. I am glad to see you are being more open for comments. At first, you seemed really defensive. Don't know why the change, but I think it will help your maps.

    I didn't appreciate his attitude either, but I will always give a person chances to change. This is the second thread in which I have posted constructive criticsm, wasn't received by the author at all, but eventually changed to at least considering the suggestion.

    If you really want to know by ideas, I took the time to closely look at your map and put my, more specific, suggestion in a .pdf file (it has pictures ). This is easier then uploading all the pics and formating it in the forums.

    It may not come as a shock to you, but I agree with his comments more than not. The gameplay was a bit harsh, but to me, you rushed the map. I am looking forward to Spliff2.

    you need to learn how to take criticism in mapping. it's the only way you'll get anywhere. If you take it personally you wont last long. I've been doing this for many years.

    I look forward to it. Like I said in the review, the layout had merit.

    bad visuals will always hurt gameplay. if it looks bad, people wont want to play it. HOLP style doesn't mean minimal as in just no decoration or details, it means clean and clutter free.

    its ok man. thx for the review! its not that i cant take criticism, its more that i like to laught my ass off, even sometimes over myself.

    i tryed a bsp and mesh mix thats just dont workin.
    most peps dont get an idee whats happin in this so called "depo".

    spliff2 will have only walkways in bsp, rest will be completly rebuild with meshes.

    AND i for myself dont like the HOLP pack vol2. cos i wouldnt say that HOLP2 is clean. it simply feels "TO EDGEY" in plany maps, just like they overdid it.

    Smile decent remix

    Wuh, tough room for this remake/remix of UT2004’s DM-1on1-Trite (I mean in this forum thread and not the map); right off the bat I see too much yellow and a pink that should actually be red. It’s a different take on 1on1 (more hide and seek sort of) and it looks like the top part was ripped open and off the original UT2004 1on1-Trite map, but none of this (except for the colors of course) is not necessarily bad. If you’re a casual 1on1 map player, then it gives you more variety and is good; if not, well, then I guess it is bad. The gameplay is very different from the original and bot seems harder and easier in this one if that’s possible; easier once you find him but harder to find (even though it seems wide-open that little devil can be tricky). I never go for the sniper rifle, but that’s just me; maybe a powerup would be better here.
