    Map - Vehicle Capture the Flag (PC) 12/4/08 UPDATED:Kaufman Overpass [PC/PS3]



    Name: Kaufman Overpass
    Version: BETA1
    Compatibility: PC
    Description: This is a map i've created for my level design class, and i'm still working on it. The centerpiece is a freeway splitting the two sides, goodies are spread in the corners to help support the rest of the team. Sniper locations and AVRiLs populate the map as well, and bases are well gaurded with Stinger Turrets. Whether you're into areal assault or taking the tank out for a spin, this map is all about team work and heavy carnage. Proves fun with 4 players, i've yet to test it with any more Human's than thought. I'm still working out the kinks with the Bots, but they're still fun to play with.
    Comments: I've updated the download to the newest, and one of the final versions of the map! I need you guys to find anything wrong so that i may fix it! The Layout and Look of the map is 100 percent done! According to Steam, i've logged almost 200 hours in the UnrealEd on this one, so i hope you guys enjoy it as much as i did making it!

    11/30/08 Changes:

    | -Added spotlights to give the streets a move "streetlamp" look.

    | -Fixed bot paths so Bots may take advantage of the new means in and out of the base.

    | -Fixed Bots driving tanks. They will now use a variety of means to drive around the map instead of simply going over the freeway.

    | -Added Ramps to allow easier means of traveling on and off the freeway.

    | -Added more buildings around the map for Decoration.

    | -Added more obvious Red and Blue signs and landmarks.

    | -Added detail to Hotel Lobbies

    | -Made Armor more appealing to bots

    | -Made Jumpboots and Redeemer more appealing to bots

    | -Added CullDistance volumes

    | -Fixed a number of bot pathing issues. Bots can now both acquire and capture the flag!

    Old: Changes:
    | -Added Raptors to the corners of the map for added support.

    | -Stairs in hotel to lead to ground level.

    | -Extra health and pickups around the map

    | -Redeemer a bit more obvious

    | -Bot-Pathed for her pleasure.

    | - Easier access into and out of the bases via some broken windows.

    | -Somewhat optimized.. I'm still looking into distance culling. But it's not included in this version of the map. So far:

    | -All Dynamic Lights removed

    | -Shader intensive meshes removed

    | -Players cannot fly out of the map area

    | -All karma Actors removed

    | -Collision on streetlamps removed.

    i have play the map like it here some feadback
    1 when i walk at the road it like i walk at a sound pad lol hear new sound when i make a step
    2 bad fps i dont have that with any map

    cool thing too att driving cars at the Highway

    nice map so far

    I've been playing around with the editor quite a bit, and i'm not getting any better FPS.. Personally i usually one UT3 at anywhere from 150 to 200 frames, and theres parts of this map where i'm down to 40 or 50, so i can only imagine what it's like for people without a 9 series nvidia. This is my first map, however, if anybody has any optimization ideas for this map, please tell me ^^; I've read the tutorials and i've done what i thought was important so far.

    Map looks awesome...unfortunately I only have the PS3 version...maybe you can get this cooked for the PS3 I would love to compliment the map suspense with this.

    Not to sound full of myself or anything, but i personally prefer my map over suspense. This has alot more "Holy **** nooo!!" Moments xD I'll see what i can do about cooking for PS3.. I've never done so before >.>

    dude i love you in a strictly non gay way...I am downloading and installing now. Thanks again man...ok, issue...I opened the rar file for the PS3...I think you may forgot to "cook" it, then again I don't know. All I found was a bunch of .xxx and .upk files. The Ps3 cook should end with a file called "userdata.jam" But thank you for try man. I can't wait to play it.

    hey its all good...I will be awaiting for the new upload. Can't wait to play it and test it out. The map itself looks way too awesome to pass up.

    I just played the map and I've got to say it was AMAZING.It is very dynamic and it must be pure bliss to play in multi.Still haven't hosted a game tho.Probably should haha.

    A strange thing I found was that when I was walking on the road next to the highway it sounded as if I'm walking on the road next to the highway it sounded strange.

    Also when the bots get inside the flag building they just...well let me just say that a bot was trying to jump with a hoverboard on the stairs...It kinda stratled me.He didn't even notice me and I played on Godlike...

    And this was the last thing I noticed for a 30 min play-the AVRiL locks onto vehicles which are on the other side of the road.It acts as if the road isn't solid.And I mean I was on one side of the highway,it locked onto a vehicle which was under me.There were various AVRiL glitches as well.

    Now for my personal opinions:
    1.I think it's too big for a 8 player map.It's probably extremely awesome with 16 players in it.Gotta host it

    2.It's too dark.Most of the times I couldn't notice the blue cicada shooting at me from the "sky".I think you should add a sky to make it a bit brighter up there...

    3.Badly placed pickups.This is the honest truth sorry if it hurts you or something but the pick-ups are placed awfully.I think that in the middle of a highway vehicle battle or stuff like that you can't exactly leave to get some mere health vials or stuff like that.And there was too much AVRiL ammo everywhere.Badly placed ammo and health pickups and I think the invisibility pick-up is useless.I think it should've been in the middle of the highway and it should've been berserk or something like that.

    4.Where's the Manta?!

    5.Too many vehicles.IMO there are too many scorpions,the Hellbender isn't exactly usefull and the Goliath is imba.I think there should be more of the faster vehicles like a Manta or two and other.

    6.I think the link gun is kinda useless in this map.

    And to finish-I ran it on 50 FPS on a GeForce 8800GTX,Intel Dualcore 2.66 GHZ,4 GB RAM. Every graphic option on maximum.I don't have complaints for the optimisation for now :P

    To sum up-excellent map.I loved it and would love to play it in a huge 16-32 character battle.Keep up the good work :P

    First off, thank you for your honest opinion! If you've ever been to houston, or any part of 1-10, theres a ton of wide open, flat parking with little buildings tossed left and right.. I wanted to capture that 'playing-in-a-parking-lot' feel with vehicles. Also wanted their to be multiple paths to get to the flag, rather than blatantly outlining with roads and streets where vehicles Should go.

    i'll look into repathing the map when i have some time. The bot do seem to be rather stupid in certain areas.

    I figured with the size of the map, vehicles should be abundant. I love vehicles personally, and wanted to make a very vehicle happy map. I found that often the bots would leave the player himself without one though. So i tossed in a second scorpion and raptors on the edges for support. The original map had a Manta in it, but players on foot ended up being taken down much to easily.

    I will end up redoing the powerups.. I have found the invisiblity useless, and nobody grabs the armor on the corners.

    Finally, being so vehicle happy, i figure i should remove some AVRiL ammo and in its place add link gun ammo.

    This is a common sight whenever you play with 32 bots...
    And this is a quick demo I made to show the strange path finding these bots have on godlike...He tried to go through the walls in a strange way...After that I got on the driver seat and took off innocently while the bot was shooting as if hell was under us...

    Anyway after a second 30 min play I'm quite enjoying this map and would love to see the final release Good luck

    download worked perfectly...installing it now on the PS3...thanks again man

    Just installed the map...and unfortunately it is crashing my PS3 on load of the map. I am not sure if it's just me...can use another confirmation from another PS3 user.

    Hm.The more I played,the more I could see flaws.It's too big,yet it has only one way to reach the flag. That ain't good...It had many pickups in most areas but who'd run out of the fight just to gather them.And let's not talk about all the atention that you'd get while you're rushing out of the battle.The cicada's a big problem I think.After playing a lot I could see many flaws like the sniper.Ok it's a nice idea to be on the top of the building but 32 players in one game and even then nobody would have the time to check if there's anyone using the sniper.And also you can't even use the hoverboard properly.I think you should make the highway a bit narrower or even better make an underground parking where there is a lot of space for foot assault.

    First off, theres 4 different ways into the base. You could park on the roof and jump in from the turrets. Make your way in through the garage and up the elevator, sneak in from the windows open behind the base and grab the flak cannon, or jump over the railing and grab the rocket launcher. That aside, would you rather i put the flag on the second story?

    The original version of the map featured a basic sewer system to get under the base. That was later removed because, simply, Nobody used it, and it was a rather boring, and long tunnel system from base to base. Are you asking for more deviation along the cement? Should i perhaps include destroyed portions of the parking lot with divots for some variation in the terrain?

    And as a side note, as i stated earlier, this Freeway was inspired by I-10 traveling through my hometown of Houston, TX. It's very, very flat here. xD. Perhaps i could lift the flatter parts of the freeway higher from the ground and fill it with dirt and grass, thinning out the freeway? Feel free to post any ideas you got too, ya know. xD

    Heheh, sorry, I've become busy with school work again, though i plan on making a newer version of this map, probably from scratch, with more custom content. I like this map alot, but it needs to be built with Optimization in mind.
