How do I get 480p to work on my PAL Xbox?
How do I get 480p to work on my PAL Xbox?

If the game supports it you only need the right cable and the right monitor/tv. As far as I know, it should automatically be as HD as possible then. I don't think UC2 supports HD though so you can't do anything.
The Murph abides.
UC2 supports 480p.
I have a Microsoft High Definition Pack on the way, will that do?
Hehe sorry, I'm a complete noob when it comes to consoles and TV standards (being more of a PC person), but I'm learning...
Anyway, I was under the impression that I would not be able to get 480p on a PAL Xbox, and I would need to switch it to NTSC.
EDIT: Yes, it appears that to play UC2 in 480p (as opposed to 576i) on a PAL Xbox, I first have to have it modded, then run a utility which allows you to switch between PAL and NTSC. Once the Xbox is in NTSC mode, 480p can be output via the High Def Pack (which I will have soon).
Now my only question is this: Some PAL games will not work with an NTSC Xbox, so will my copy of UC2 work? Has anyone had experience running PAL UC2 on NTSC Xbox?
This whole situation is ridiculous. Obviously when Microsoft released the Xbox, they deemed some parts of the world (those stuck with PAL) unequipped for high definition resolutions, and have not had the decency to relese updates to fix it. My dislike for Microsoft is ever growing.

I am confused.
You stated you have a pal xbox, but then you wanted to know if a pal uc2 will work on a ntsc xbox?
Well first off your tv must support ntsc, as well as have your xbox modded. If you use one of the ICE chips or evolution chips, it doesn't matter where you got the game as these chips support ALL formats.
Now for the sad part:
You will not be able to play live with your xbox if you mod it. As the code in the eeprom and the hard drive info is always sent to MS when you connect to live (YES, there are reasons live cost money, and it is to stop things like this from happening).
Actually I think live is not available anymore for the original xbox so I heard. But don't quote me on this. It could easily be a lie.
If that is the case, then you may want to check out xbconnect and xlink kai to connect to others around the world. These programs will also allow you to play system link games to people not even in the same room as you. Though you will only find mostly halo games being played.
Xlink kai will be a lot better for you as you can install it on the modded xbox itself, and don't have to use a pc to connect. Also a few new routers (linksys is the one I tested it on) will allow you to install the program on the router. Which is like a set-up and forget kinda thing.
Sorry for the book, but I felt that it was needed info. Happy modding![]()

Well, my Xbox is PAL at the moment (my only option unless I import one), and I want to be able to run UC2 at 480p/60hz. Only an NTSC Xbox can do that, so that means that I must mod mine to make it NTSC. I now know how to do that.
I already own a PAL version of UC2. My question is: Will I be able to use my PAL version of UC2 on my Xbox once it has been modded to NTSC, or will I have to import an NTSC version of the game? (I would also like this question answered for the original UC)
I ask because I have heard of some incidents where PAL disks have refused to play on NTSC machines (and vice-versa).
I'm just in the process of buying a TV for UC2 - the KV-HR32, which supports NTSC.
The only chip I can find that is still available where I live, is the Duo X2.
I'm not really too concerned about Xbox live. The only reason I would want to use it, would be for downloading UC2 patches and bonus content. In fact, the only reason I bother with Xbox at all is purely for UC2 and UC.
If I ever wanted to play UC2 online, I would use Xlink Kai
Thanks for your help.![]()
You welcome.
Also, you will have no problems with mix/match ntsc and pal. I was concerned like you when I was stationed out in England. The only thing I know that had to be the same was the console and the TV. Though this has been 5 years ago. So I think it is safe to assume that mod technology has increased substaintually (spelling?).

The website above is a good place to buy from. I never had any issues with them. Check them out if you don't have a top-of-the-line chip. If I recall correctly X2 was evolution chips, so you may be fine. The only thing I can think of about the Duo part is that it supports two different "configurations/flash locations".
I use to remember the website where I learned all about modding, but I can't remember. I think it was xbox-scene or something like that. It will answer all of your questions, as some of my info is outdated.
Anyways, xlink kai....good choice.....make sure you install it to the xbox so you don't have to run back to the computer after every created session.
P.S. you should look into solderless modchip so that you can always convert back. Those switches/external led displays, etc. get's expensive, but they look soo cool.
Talking about this makes me want to buy an original and mod it, because Advent Rising isn't backwards compatible.![]()

Geez, it's been a while since I stopped by these Boards. What's up everyone? Venom my man, did you get Fable 2 yet? I'm addicted to that game right now.
Anyhow, I will say that copies of UC2 are region-free. Yes, I know this for a fact.
Since I actually purchased a PAL Collector's Edition of UC2 a few years back, I've been able to play that copy of UC2 on my NTSC Xbox. Therefore, I can only imagine it's the same vice versa.
Anyhow, if you're playing UC2 on an the original Xbox, then you'll obviously need Hi-Def Cables to play the game on you Hi-Def television.
Unfortunately, playing UC2 on the original Xbox will only yield 480p results. While still pretty no doubt, you'd be better off using the backwards compatibilty function to play UC2 on your 360 - provided your looking for the slickest picture available.
Thankfully that version supports Widescreen above 480p, so if your TV supports it, you can actually play the game at a dazzling 1080p experience.
Granted, the game isn't actually be rendered at such a high resolution (obviously). However, the upconvert process still makes this game shine like none other.

What's up snoogans!!! I been playing wow for a very long time. I think it is too much to be honest. I am only gonna play enough to get to level 80 then I am done with it. Too much time has gone into that game.
I am playing fable 2. I got that midnight club los angeles (hard game), and spiderman web of shadows. I use to play web of shadows a lot, but I got hooked in fable 2. So I play every chance I get. Awesome game. Mostly everything promised in the original fable is in this one. If I had to ask for one thing in this game, it would be wider environments. The area you travel in is way too narrow, and makes it feel linear. I am going full will character, and feels like the biggest challenge of the other powers. I think it will get easier when I get the slow time spell maxed.
And I agree to everything you said about uc2 and 480p. Though I didn't know it was region-free.
