    Chapter 1 - Silence

The cold night air brushed onto John’s face as he closed the large metal door behind him, he hated this part of his job, locking up in the middle of the night deep within a dead city wasn’t exactly his idea of a job… then again, there aren’t many besides front-line combat these days. He walked across the dark courtyard, his snub pistol in one hand, and lantern in the other, he never felt safe at night, no matter where he was. He moved up the large steps toward the doorway that was at least ten feet taller then him, he grabbed the handle and swung the door shut, a rather loud crash occurred as the metal door slammed shut, he pulled up the padlock and locked it with the key around his neck. He continued moving down the dark path, through the archway to yet another courtyard, whistling as he went… it calmed his nerves. There was a loud bang behind him, he turned around, dropping his lantern as he moved, and it smashed on the floor beside him. He peered into the darkness as a black figure emerged. John raised his snub, ready to fire.

    “Gotcha”

The voice was familiar; John sighed in relief and lowered his weapon.

“Damien you jackass you almost made me shoot you!” John yelled, he wasn’t angry at all… just a little shaken up.

“Well if you spent more time locking doors then walking around you would be back inside by now.”

“C’mon, lets go do the last one.” John said, moving through the archway toward the final entrance.

“So, Damien, what’re you doin’ here, I thought you were off to that new COG assignment you got.”

“Well, I came back for a few days R and R, thought I might come catch up with an old friend.”

John couldn’t help but wonder why he would show up at midnight, but he didn’t really care, he just wanted to get back inside and hit the hay. He moved up to the last door and closed it, locking it with the key.

“Well, that does it for the night, c’mon Damien, I’ll show you around—“ He stopped talking as he turned around to find Damien was missing.

“Damien you idiot lets go!” John yelled, looking around the courtyard.

“C’mon man this isn’t funny lets go!”

John moved down the path a little, stepping into was felt like water, he looked down to find Damien’s mangled corpse on the grass, and his blood was slowly pouring down onto the path and into the drain nearby.

“Holy ****!” John screamed, backing away from the body as a bullet slammed into his chest, he flew backwards into the metal door, sliding down as his body slowly weakened. He looked out to the courtyard, five blurry figures were moving across the grass, one ran up to John and knelt down beside him. It hissed something in a high-pitched tone; another ran over and looked down at him. John was finding it harder and harder to breathe, his vision was also beginning to blur. He watched silently as the figure standing over him kneel down beside him also, grabbing Johns key from around his neck, it stood back over him and withdrew something from its belt, it pushed the object into Johns mouth and he heard it click, then. Everything went silent.

(Please comment on the first chapter, and please include criticism . I know it's short and honestly I don't think it's that great, ((I've certainly read better on this site)) but I think it's a good start.)

It's pretty good, is this your first Fan Fic? If so then great job, it is a little short though, if I were you I would try to find a way to make it longer. Other than that very nice job.

Thanks mate, and yeah its my first... I had a much longer version but I trimmed it down because I didn't think it made much sense and such. I'll do the next chapter much longer if I can.

Chapter 2 - Meet Falcon Squad

Vince opened his eyes to the sun rising on the horizon. He got up slowly, pulling himself off his mattress inside his pathetic excuse for a home in Jacinto. Everyone he knew had been given crappy hotel rooms like his, maybe it was just because they came into the fortress late… several months late actually. Vince had been in Jacinto fortress for a few weeks now, before Emergence day he had been a simple Pilot, but once the Locust attacked, he was stranded on the outskirts of Jacinto with his wife Bethany. They held their home as long as they could, Vince tried to keep track of the time, but with no contact to anyone outside his house… things just got worse. A few months after E-day his wife had been killed by the Locust attacks on their home. Most were just patrols passing by and noticing the lights from the house… one day they came in more numbers then usual.

Vince shook his head. The thoughts were unpleasant. He took a shower and left for his fist day of duty in the Coalition, he was on a personal vendetta for his wife… he wouldn’t sleep easy until every last Locust is dead.
He walked into the downstairs kitchen, passing people he had never met before, a few familiar faces were here and there… he didn’t really care; he was more of the quiet type anyway. He walked out of the apartment block and moved down the street, not many people were around besides a few Cog’s patrolling the street, Vince simply walked on by, Jacinto fortress was a huge place, towering walls are all anyone can see from any part of the city, it was really the only safe place on Sera when the Locust attacked.

Vince pushed his way into the Coalition Military center, right in the middle of Jacinto, the doors were so crowded it was almost impossible to get in… he was greeted by a Cog soldier who showed him the way to Colonel Hoffman’s office, who was apparently in charge of Jacinto Military Operations. Vince walked into his office following the Cog Private, who left after addressing Hoffman of the situation.

“Take a seat son.” Hoffman said, he sounded as old as he looked.

Vince sat in an armchair facing Hoffman’s desk, he waited for the Colonel to speak.

“I trust you’re fine with the living accommodations we provided you with?”

    “Yes, sir.” Vince simply stated.

“Good, we need every soldier we can get out against the Locust.”

“I won’t let you down sir.”

    “Alright then son, follow me.”

Hoffman got up from his chair and headed for the door, Vince quietly followed. They headed into the armory where four Cogs’ were gearing up.

“Son, meet Falcon Squad, one of the best we have to offer, they’re preparing to head out so I suggest you get ready.” He said in a rather loud tone.

“Yes, sir.” Vince said, walking over to examine a Lancer Assault Rifle.

“Falcon Squad, meet you’re newest member, Vince Jerrold.”

The five men simply looked at Vince, one smiled, another grunted.

“I’ll leave you gentlemen to it.” Hoffman said, walking out of the room and back up the long staircase.

One of the men walked up to Vince and held out a hand. Vince shook it.

“Welcome to the war V. I’m Kane” He said, moving back to grab a snub, which he pushed into the holster on his belt. He pointed his thumb to the rough looking man who had smiled at him when he walked in.

“That’s Greg, call him Grease… he likes it.”

Greg or Grease chuckled a little and shook Vince’s hand as Kane pointed to another member of the squad, who was wearing a helmet, along with another who was wearing one, he introduced them as Liam and James.

“Right, now that we all know each other, lets get moving. V, gear up and meet us on the roof, we’re taking a Raven in.”

Vince nodded as he grabbed an armor chest piece and pushed it into place on his body, he did the same with the rest of the suit and grabbed a few weapons. A Lancer Assault Rifle, Gnasher shogun and some extra Lancer ammo. He walked out of the armory; the large metal doors slid shut behind him as he headed up the staircase toward the roof. He walked out into the warm morning air, the Raven chopper was firing up its engine, the rotors were spinning at increasing speeds. Kane was waiting for him outside the door, the rest of Falcon squad were already on board.

“Ready for this V?” He asked, smiling as they boarded the Raven.
    “Sure, lets do it."

(Second Chapter, I might write some more on Chapter 2, it depends. Anyway, thanks for reading.)

Chapter 3 - For the Horde

Retaac was silent, the cover of darkness around him was soothing, he liked the night… always had. He peered through the hole in the wall beside him, a few Kryll flew down the street, squawking a screeching noise as they sped off into the distance, he looked down the long, destroyed road in front of him… nothing had moved since he last checked. He turned back and took a seat on the floor, looking down the hall at one of his companions, who was fiddling around with his Hammerburst. He looked down at his own weapon, a Lancer Assault Rifle he had taken as a battle trophy a few days ago. It was in good condition, he saw no reason not to keep it. He put his weapon down on the floor beside him softly, careful not to make too much noise… they needed the element of surprise… the light mass bomb had dwindled the Locust numbers, destroying most of their homes underground, the hollow however, remained intact. Most of the Locust leaders died in the attack, leaving the Locust army unaware of their orders, however, one mission was obvious. Revenge. There were rumors that the Queen of the Hollow had survived, which gave Locust slight hope… Retaac on the other hand, didn’t know what to believe.

Retaac was drawn from his thought by a hiss over his radio device.

    “Operation almost complete”

Retaac understood the words, they were in this strange Human city for the one reason they still fighting, avenging the fallen Locust.

Retaac continued with his thoughts, he had been idle for so long until this mission, he was glad to be once again used for the Locust. It had been a few months since the light mass bomb strike was launched, the Locust needed time to regroup and organize themselves… the Human’s seemed to think that the Locust were vanquished, lies being fed to the frightened citizens, this foolish assumption is about to come to a bloody end.

Retaac’s radio crackled again, the words came over clearer this time.

    “Human’s incoming, keep them busy.”

The news was no doubt joyful for every single Locust in the city; it was time to avenge the fallen.
Retaac picked up his Lancer quickly, dashing down the hall past several Locust Drones who were standing with weapons poking out of windows, ready to ambush the Human’s as they approached. Retaac moved down a flight of stairs quickly, he had no idea how many Human’s they were up against… it was just the way he liked it.

“Drones, come with me.” He hissed at two Drones standing by the exit, they immediately picked up their gear and moved on behind him.
Retaac felt a little at home as he moved out onto the street, feeling the cool morning air on his face… he had little time for pleasantries, he continued down the street, pulling a Longshot rifle out of the hands of a Drone, who obviously new his place, allowing Retaac to take it. Retaac moved out onto the main road and looked around him… he could briefly make out the Troika placements in the apartment windows above, along with at least fifteen more Drones all ready to fire at the soon to be battlefield below them. He smiled a little. This was going to be easier then he thought. He moved down the street a little to a few Drones and a Theron Guard crouched behind a destroyed Human vehicle, he crouched beside them, checking his rifle for any damage… it looked fine with enough ammo for the fight. The Theron nodded its head in respect and began to speak.

“Our scouts detected the Human’s coming in a large group, they are mounted with vehicles that are reportedly weaponless. They should be here any moment.”

Retaac hissed, the Human’s didn’t usually bring vehicles… they shouldn’t have even been in the city… they couldn’t of known of his plan, no chance… they must be here for another reason buy why?

“Very well, make sure all of you’re drone’s hold position… fight to the death.” He hissed, looking over at the horizon… the sun was raising, it was a good thing… the Kryll would be out of the way for the battle.
The Theron nodded in acknowledgment, Retaac knew they wouldn’t falter.
He moved down the road a little more and pushed himself up behind another destroyed vehicle… he loaded his rifle and peered around the vehicle, the two drones knelt down on his left, waiting for him to take the first shot.
Every Locust in the area heard the Human’s approaching, and several had clear shots… however, they all respectfully waited for Retaac to take the first shot. He saw the first vehicle round the corner, they’re blockade should stop it, as planned, It did. The vehicle stopped behind the barricade of waste, three Human’s stepped out of the vehicle to examine the pile of debris as the second vehicle came around the corner, followed by another. Retaac pulled his sniper around the edge of the vehicle and adjusted the scope, one of the Human’s had a helmet on, the other was a rugged looking man with long dark hair, this one was shouting orders to the driver. Retaac had chosen his target. He zoomed in with the scope so that the dot on the lens was right on the mans forehead, he pulled the trigger and the rifle cocked back, a loud crack sounded as the bullet left the barrel, traveling through the air at intense speeds, it lamed into the mans head, sending his head off in an explosion of blood and brains. There was silence for a moment as the body dropped to the floor, blood splurging from the hole on the top of his torso where the Human’s head had been. The silence was broken by earsplitting gunfire; the Locust started sending everything they had at the Human’s, who took cover behind their vehicles. Retaac like it when they let the Locust come to them… there was more blood. Retaac reloaded his rifle, sending the extra bullet shell to the floor as he pushed the new one in, he raised the rifle again, aiming for a Human who was blind firing wildly in Retaac’s direction, he could make out a little of his head, Retaac lined up the shot and pulled the trigger, sending another load cracking sound that was drowned out by the noise of the Troika’s, he looked down the scope again, the man was on the floor minus his head, Retaac smiled, reloading his weapon again, something was wrong this time, the bullet wouldn’t load in properly. He fiddled with the rifle a little, becoming impatient as he growled, it was useless, the rifle was jammed. He threw it out onto the road and pulled out his Lancer, it seemed he needed to do this the fun way. He fired at a Human who was running for cover, gunning him down instantly and sending the mangled corpse flying into a group of more Human’s. The Human’s numbers had been diminished… it was time to charge, he rose to his feet, the long robes he wore flapped down to the ground.

“For the Queen!” He roared as he began to sprint through the debris all over the road, he glanced over his shoulder, at least thirty Locusts were charging behind him, all revving chainsaw bayonets or firing Hammerburst into the Human strong points. Bullets whizzed through the air, barely missing Retaac as he leapt over a destroyed vehicle the Human’s called a ‘car’. Three Human’s foolishly fired blindly over their heads, sending bullets spraying into the drone running behind Retaac, this didn’t slow him down, they both leapt over the Human’s cover, sending themselves over behind the Human’s, who had no idea of the pending death awaiting them. Retaac revved his bayonet and sent it down toward one of the Human’s, he felt the chainsaw connect with the Human’s Armour, sending sparks flying as it tore through and into his flesh… blood was spraying all over him as it pushed deeper and deeper into the Human’s body until it finally came out the other end, right through his pelvis. The mangled body fell to the floor as the other two Human’s watched in horror. The drone quickly fired its Hammerburst into the remaining Human’s and they continued forward, the Human’s were retreating back down the road, firing at any Locust who came toward them. Retaac and his companion moved quickly, taking cover behind one of the trucks… there was a noise up the street as three Reavers with mounted Troika’s came speeding down toward the Human’s, gunning the remainders down to the floor, all but a few were either dead or dying. The entire Locust force advanced on the remaining human’s, taking them out easily. The battle was theirs.

Several minutes passed as the Locust killed the entire remaining Human’s by whatever means necessary. Retaac walked up to the final human, who seemed to be their leader and knelt down beside him.
Retaac hissed at the man, before speaking in the best English he could.

“How did you know we were here…?” He hissed at the man, who looked up for the first time, his eyes were bloodshot with sweat all down his face… he seemed to have no legs.

“Go to hell.” The man whispered.

Retaac snickered and raised his Lancer to the mans face and fired.

    “You first”

Retaac lowered his weapon and pushed it into place on his back, the magnetic seal on his armour clicked it in place. The groud strated shaking violently, the plan had worked.

"Come, we don't have much time"

(I think this is the best chapter so far, thanks for reading!)

    Chapter 4 - Flight Delay

Vince fiddled around with a few parts of his Lancer, it seemed fine and ready to be used. He had spent the duration of the flight checking all his gear, just making sure everything was top-knotch.

“Vince, put that damn weapon down were almost there.”

The voice was Kane’s, he had just awoken from a nap, Vince didn’t know how Kane could sleep, the noise from the Raven’s engines was deafening. He put down the weapon next to his Helmet, the blue, shining lenses almost looked like they were glaring at him. He rested his head on the cold metal behind him, closing his eyes and became carried away in his thoughts.

“Beth c’mon, the games on in thirty minutes lets go!” Vince exclaimed, looking over to his wife who was bidding goodbye to friends, he was already in the car… it took her so damn long to say goodbye to anyone, even the postman. Vince smiled as she finally approached the old vehicle and took a seat.

“Alright lets go.” She said, obviously dissapointed.

Vince pushed down on the gas pedal, sending the car backwards slowly, he had almost forgot to put it in reverse. They waved to the friends inside and drove off down the long road ahead.

They were silent, listening to the boring music playing from the small speakers on the doors… it was some kind of classical instrumental, Vince honestly preferred heavier music.

The drive didn't take long, it seemed to be over as soon as it had begun as they pulled into the large driveway of their rather fancy house and exited the vehicle.

“I invited Michael and Rachael over for dinner, is that ok?” Beth said quietly, she knew her husband didn’t like having friends over while the Thrashball was on.

“That’s fine, what time are they coming?”

    “Around eight.”

Vince nodded; it was fine with him. The Thrashball game would be over by six, which would give him two hours to relax, Sweet deal. He walked into the house and took a seat on the couch, pulling the remote over and putting on the game, just in time.

    ****

The game was almost over when Beth came into the room. The commentators voice could be heard from the other side of the house.

“And he passes to number 83 Augustus Cole, who makes a mad dash to score… this should do it! And yes! The Cougar’s have won the championship!”

Vince let out a joyful yell; the whole neighborhood probably heard it.

“Vince I need to go to the store to get a few thing’s, I’ll be back in a minute.” Beth explained, leaving the room and heading for the car, Vince simply nodded and said “Alright”. He lay down on the couch, still overwhelmed that the cougars won the championship… he closed his eyes and fell asleep.

    ****

Vince was pulled out of his daydreaming by the sound of his radio.

“Falcon, change of plan, you’ll be hading to ‘Montevado’. We lost contact with a few squads in that area, you’re being sent to investigate, over and out.”

Vince opened his eyes and sighed… he didn’t want to go there, not one bit.

“All right men, you heard him, Montevado is about five minutes away, suit up.” Kane announced, pulling his Lancer off the magnetic seal on his back and loading it. Vince did the same, he checked the Lancer again, just to be sure it was fine. He reached down to the floor and picked up his helmet, looking into the blue eyes once again as he pushed it over his face.

The helmet automatically activated to his DNA, this precaution was used to keep Locust from eavesdropping on radio communications. He waited for it to come online, the blue eyes lit up a little, providing several different types of sight, such as night vision and infer red or simply normal. Four more icons appeared on his vision, each small as to not obstruct the wearers sight, the first was used to activate the helmets light, the second gave information on squad mates and the third was used to change different types of sight using the lens.

    “Good to go.”

    ****

Retaac was once again seated on the cold floor of the apartment building, waiting for the mission to be complete, suddenly, his earpiece activated.

“Evacuate area immediately, mission was a success.”

Retaac didn’t need to be told twice… anyone in the city would surely perish.
He moved down the hall quickly, walking past several Locust who were getting their gear together and heading for the staircase. Clearly they knew what was going on. Drone’s weren’t considered to be a valuable asset to the Locust, and were usually left in the dark about any decisions… they were simply told what to do and they did it, or died.

He rushed down the stairs quickly but stopped as his earpiece once again activated, the second sound indicated it was a personal transmission to Retaac.

“Human Air support inbound, Nemacyst in pursuit”

Retaac growled angrily, he was tired of the Human’s interfering.

“I will deal with it.” He hissed back, walking out the door.

He quickly walked down the street a little and moved into a small building with a large garage, he opened the door, moving inside and making a hissing noise. His Reaver moved out onto the street slowly, awaiting him to board, Retaac moved onto the creature, grabbing hold of the troika machine gun that was already mounted on its back. He made another hissing noise and the beast took to the sky.

    ****

“I’ve got Nemacyst on our tail, get on the gun!” Yelled one of the pilots, Grease followed the order, moving onto one of the guns and starting it up, ready to fire.

“Hold onto something Vince, it might get a little rough!” Yelled Kane as the Raven shook violently from turbulence.

Vince grabbed onto a bar above his head, clinging onto it as much as possible as Grease opened fire with the Chain gun. The noise was deafening, Vince couldn’t see what Grease was shooting at, nor did he know what a ‘Nemacyst’ was… all he knew was it was trying to kill them and that was bad.

The Raven shook again as they sped up, almost sending Liam over the side, Vince grabbed him as he slipped, pulling him back up as the Raven shook again, sending them both to the floor of the craft. Vince quickly scrambled back up to his pole he had claimed as a life line, he noticed Grease had stopped firing and they had slowed down, he patiently waited for his hearing to come back… eventually it did.

“All Nemacyst are gone, good work.” The pilot said.

Vince looked out the window, they were now coming over the city… it was much more ravaged then it was last time he was here.

“Take us down there.” Kane told the pilot as they slowly decended down toward a large building.

    ****

The ground shook violently, sending Vince off the couch and onto the floor. He quickly got onto his knees, there had never been an earthquake in Montevado, this was a first. He looked at the television; the news was on, the reporters looked like they were panicking, he increased the volume.

“We’ve just had reports that strange creatures are coming out from the ground, we don’t know how or why but the earthquakes are intensifying—“

The reporter was cut off as a bullet slammed into her head, sending her flying backward behind the news desk, Vince watched in horror as the camera was faced to the door to the studio, a large beast with ravaged skin was standing in the doorway, a strange weapon in its hand, it aimed it at the camera and fired twice, the signal was lost.

Vince panicked, if these thing’s were coming out of the ground they could come from anywhere, he was weaponless, they had to get out of--

Vince suddenly stopped, his heart thumping.

"Beth!" He yelled, praying for an answer... she didn't reply.

He quickly ran out of the house, running as fast as he could down the street, he could hear people screaming and the sound of gunfire in the distance, he prayed it stayed in the distance. He continued sprinting as the ground shook again, sending him sprawling across the footpath as the ground beneath him disappeared, he landed on the other side of the hole that had appeared where he had been moments ago… he looked down into it, green gas was coming out of the large, dark hole. He noticed something crawling up from inside, it looked exactly the same as the thing he had saw on the television.

Vince sprinted away as fast as he could, hoping the creature had not seen him, he ran around the corner, his eyes glinting as he saw the store in the distance, it was half destroyed.

Bodies were lying all over the footpath, people were running and screaming down the following street, followed by the loud whizzing of bullets. He continued sprinting until he came upon the bodies... none were Beth. He walked in the door, bullets were whizzing all around him. He quickly ducked behind one of the checkouts inside, crawling through the store until he came to a group of people huddled together across the shop. He examined their faces, most were covered in dust of blood… he saw Beth, she looked fine. He sighed in relief and moved over to them, hugging her as he came in contact.

“Oh thank god you’re okay” He sighed.

    “We have to go, now.”

Beth nodded, following outside the shop and into the fray once again, one of the creatures had been waiting for him and jumped, slamming into Vince and sending him to the floor as it tried to strangle him, he thought he was good as dead as the beast became limp and fell off him, blood oozing off it and into onto his body. He turned to see a Coalition soldier firing wildly toward the monsters; he picked Vince up and yelled at him.

“You need to get out of here now! Go back to you’re home!”

Vince didn’t hesitate, he pulled Beth with him and ran as fast as he could, heading down the street of which he had come from. He came to the hole once again, the Coalition soldiers must have already cleared his street, there were four dead bodies lying around the hole, three were the beasts and one was a Coalition soldier. He picked up the Lancer Assault rifle on the floor and one of the beast’s guns, giving it to Beth.

“What am I supposed to do with this?!” She screamed.

“Shoot anything that looks like that!” He yelled, pointing down at the monster. She nodded. He was still covered in blood that wasn’t his.

They quickly ran back inside, locking the door and piling anything they could as a barricade. Then they simply sat and waited for help.

    ****

Retaac was almost at the humans most probable location, a large building on the outskirts of the city… it was where he himself had landed when he arrived. He heard his earpiece activate again and a voice spoke loudly.

“Commencing with operation in five seconds.”

Retaac understood, he hissed at the Reaver again, causing it to increase its altitude.

He simply waited and watched from a safe distance as the final stage of his plan was put into place.

    ****

Vince steadied himself as the Raven lowered, it was almost on the ground as the ground started to shake violently.

“Holy sh*t!” One of the pilots yelled as he jerked the conrols, causing the Raven to pull up sharply, clearly this was a bad move.

“Hang on it’s going to get rough again!”

Vince quickly grabbed the metal bar again and waited for the worst, all he could do is look out upon the city that was shaking wildly in front of them

“What the hell’s going on!” Vince yelled, looking over at Kane, who simply shrugged his shoulders, he looked as worried as Vince.

The shaking intensified, whole buildings began to collapse… more and more by the second. Suddenly, the entire city began to sink into the ground, buildings slammed into others, explosions erupted all over the destroyed landscape, it was like the city was being consumed.

Vince couldn't believe what he was seeing as he took one last glance at the city as the Raven slammed into the ground, sending him back into the wall, then. Everything was black.

    Chapter 5 - Raven Down

“Beth! Get into the bathroom! Now!” Screamed Vince, the Locust were coming at full force, he didn’t even understand how they knew they were here.

    “I’m not leaving you Vince!”

Vince pulled his Lancer around, firing several rounds into a Locusts’ head, splattering its brains all over the living room wall.

“Go!” He yelled back as three more Locust pounded through the door. He didn’t know how much longer he could hold them off. He looked back at Beth; she was still standing in the kitchen.

    “Damn it Beth, GO NOW!”

He pulled his Lancer up again, firing three rounds into the leg of a Locust who had just walked in the door, this sent it flying back out… another simply replaced it’s place soon after.
He suddenly stopped in sheer horror of the sound he heard next. Beth started screaming as there was a loud roar coming from behind him, he was frozen for a moment, unable to move, fearing the sight if he turned around, he slowly turned, Beth was on the floor, blood dripping from her mouth, she glared at him as he yelled her name… she smiled.

Everything seemed to slow down significantly, Vince was shocked, they had survived all this time, and now, they were finally beat. He yelled her name again, ignoring the Locust around him as she said her final words.

    “I love you Vince."

She suddenly became still… Vince looked up, a large Locust was standing above her, grinning from ear to ear, it was obviously enjoying the sight. A tear rolled down Vince’s face. He picked up his Lancer and revved his chainsaw bayonet, the sound was all he could hear besides his heart pounding. He got to his feet and threw it into the air above his head, it did a flip in midair before he caught it, the bayonet was now on the topside of the gun. He slammed it into the massive beast in front of him; it sawed straight through the beast’s stomach, sending blood everywhere. The creature suddenly fell backwards, crashing through the wall to the next room.

Vince turned, chainsaw still revving as he screamed and charged for the dozen or so Locust watching the fight. He hacked and sawed until every last one of them were completely dead.

He dropped to his knees and sobbed… blood dripping off the walls, and off him—

Vince could hear a faint voice in his head, he didn’t know what was going or where he was, all he could see was blackness as the voice grew louder.

    “Private…!”

Vince opened his eyes to see Kane kneeling over him.

“What happened?" He managed to say, his vision slowly getting clearer.

“Get you’re ass up Vince, quickly!” He shouted back.

Vince got up slowly, covering his head as a bullet whizzed over it, scaring the crap out of him.
He moved up behind the chopper and looked inside; one of the pilot’s bodies was hanging out of the seat, blood oozing over the control panel.

“When we crashed you got thrown out of the Raven, banged up you’re head pretty bad… that was about half an hour ago, Locust showed up on our asses just now— Son of a—“

He stopped talking for a moment as a bullet barely missed him; he rose up a little and fired over the Raven, killing a Locust in his small burst of bullets.

“Anyway, the cities… gone… nothing left but rubbish and flames.” He explained, lowering himself back down, a little lower this time.

“Any idea what happened to it?” Vince asked.

“Nothing. It just sank into the ground!” He yelled, firing over his head again.

“We need to get these bastards off of us.”

Vince looked around, there wasn’t much besides trees and destroyed buildings… there was a building intact however, a large one, just to their right, Locust seemed to be inside already.

“Kane, I think we should try take the building to the right, we can pick off the bastards with Liam’s longshot!” He yelled over the gunfire, Kane nodded in agreement.

“Alright fellas go right on my mark.”

Vince stopped firing as did Liam and James, Kane and Grease however continued,

“Mark! Go, go, go!” He yelled as they all stood up, Kane and Grease fired fiercely into the swarm of Locust ahead of them, taking a few of them down before running themselves. Vince was the first to get to the building, he kicked down the door, it was pitch black inside. His helmets HUD had a flashing icon; he activated it, activating night vision.

He walked inside slowly, looking around the dark room, noticing nothing. Just up ahead inside was a staircase, he started heading for it but was stopped, a wretch fell down from the ceiling and landing right in front of him, it took a look at him and started screaming madly, Vince revved his chainsaw and swung at the little creature, sawing its head clean off.

He grinned as its body became limp, small feet pounding against the floor could be heard nearby, Vince turned to his left, at least twenty more wretches were charging at them.

“Fire left!” He shouted, everyone opened fire blindly, hearing screams to their left as the bodies dropped to the floor screaming, too easy.

Vince moved over to one that was crawling away; he pushed it onto its back and slammed his boot down on its face, crushing its skull.

“Follow me.” Kane said, moving up the staircase to the second level of the building, which had windows on the ceiling, light shone through providing clear view. Vince’s helmet automatically turned off the night vision, providing clear sight.

There was a small balcony on the other side of the room, Kane gave Liam the signal to move over to is as the rest of them took up positions on the windows. The Locust had regrouped and were moving in on the building.

“Fire at will.” Kane said softly, his words were drowned out by gunfire as they all threw everything they had at the incoming Locust.

Vince aimed one down with his Lancer, aiming for its knee’s, he fired three-bullet bursts at it, taking it to the floor, he shot one round into its head to finish it off, turning to another and doing the same. He signaled for James to come to the staircase with him, they both knelt down on either side of the stairs, waiting for the Locust to burst through the door. Vince pulled his Lancer in front of him and ejected the clip, pushing a new one into its place and loading it in, he held it out in front of him, waiting. Kane and Grease were still firing at the advancing outside.

“Get ready, here they come!” Kane shouted. As the words left his mouth, the door downstairs flew open, slamming into the wall in front.

Five drones walked through the door; Vince instantly opened fire, spraying them all down easily. The next five came in firing to their left, the bullets began slamming into the staircase in front of Vince; the bullets chipped the concrete, sending shrapnel and dust all over the place.

Vince fired blind through the dust that had formed, hearing the Locust call out in pain as the bullets left his rifle. It clicked a few times, indicating low ammo. He was out.

He put the Lancer down beside him and rose to his feet, he pulled his Gnasher shotgun off his back, tearing it away from the magnetic seal. He swung it around his finger, loading it completely. He then jumped down the staircase, firing a round into the chest of a Locust as he dropped, splitting it in two. He fired a second round, which splattered into a Locusts’ head, causing it to explode on contact, sending the body to the floor in a mangled heap.

He looked upstairs at James, who smiled.

    “That was easy.”

Vince snickered and walked back up the stairs.

“All clear Sarge.” He said, looking over at Kane, who nodded.

“Good work, c’mon lets get out of here.”

    Chapter 6 - The Hunt

Retaac was disappointed; his entire Legion of drones had been cut down in a matter of minutes. It was time to end this. He stood up, pushing his Lancer on his back; the magnetic seal pulled it on tightly. He walked down the flight of stairs below him, coming to the exit of the large building... the sun was now high in the sky, and it was easily midday. Retaac's plan had worked, the entire city had been consumed into the ground, all he had to do was deal with these Human's and he could be on his way.

He walked down the long destroyed road; it was possibly the only street that remained intact throughout the entire city. He smiled, the Locust had shown that they were very much still alive, their numbers were shorter, however, their spirit was stronger then ever before. He sped up his pace; he needed to get to them before they got to him.

"This is Sergeant Kane, requesting extraction"

Vince was seated on the ground beside Grease and Liam, James was sleeping to their left a bit in some grass while Kane was trying to radio for extraction.

"Is anybody reading me?" He shouted, obviously getting frustrated.

Vince stood up, picking his Lancer up with him.

"C'mon Sarge, the radio's must be down... the best thing we can do is head into the forest and look for a high point."

Vince and Kane looked over to Grease who had spoken, it was the first time Vince had heard him speak. Kane nodded to him.

    "All right lets move out."

Retaac moved out of the city and onto the large grass plain ahead, he saw the Human's air vehicle destroyed on the ground a few hundred yards away. He had no idea which direction they had gone in.
He hissed a little, before looking toward the large forest to his left... they must have gone in.

He quickly moved through the field, passing Locust bodies littering the ground... it disgusted him to think that four Human's could kill an entire Locust Legion.

He stopped as he heard voices inside the forest

    "Damn this jungle is thick!"

"Just keep moving, we need to find a mountain or something."

The voices were obviously Human, Retaac hissed for his Reaver, as usual, it landed beside him and he mounted it. This would be much easier then he expected.

Falcon squad continued through the forest, which to Vince, seemed to be getting thicker and thicker. They stopped at the sight of a large snowy cliff not too far away.

”All right boys we’re almost there, lets keep moving.” Kane said, panting.

They continued on, nothing to be seen besides the cliff in the distance and trees all around them. It was eerie to Vince… he had a bad feeling about this.

They reached the bottom of the cliff, looking up at the monstrous work of nature above them. There was a small path going up the side of the mountain, it was fairly steep and looked very old.

“Lets go” Kane simply stated, leading them up the path.

Instead of pushing through tree’s they were now pushing through snow, which in Vince’s mind was a lot worse. All they could do was continue, hoping to get a signal… if they didn’t, they would be stranded and Vince didn’t think any of them liked that Idea.

They kept going, it took about thirty minutes to get to the top, the view was spectacular… they could see everything in a hundred mile radius.

“Command, this is Falcon Squad, requesting immediate extraction on our location.” Kane repeated, they all eagerly waited a reply.

“Roger that Falcon Squad a Raven is inbound. ETA thirty minutes.”

Vince let out a sigh of relief and sat down on a rock nearby, he looked out at the view… something wasn’t right.

Retaac waited for his moment to strike, the Human’s had already called in an air vehicle to extract them. It was now or never.

Vince stood up and walked over to where everybody else was standing, Grease must have been freezing; his torso Armour didn’t cover most of his arms. Vince moved over to Kane, who was checking his equipment.

“You did a good job Vince.” He said, pushing his Lancer on his back.

“Thanks, what do you think happened to the city?”

“No idea, but I hope Command does… if the Locust can destroy whole cities Jacinto wont last long.”

Vince nodded in agreement, Kane was right… Jacinto was an easy target if the Locust can consume cities.

Vince’s thoughts were stopped as he turned around. A large Locust wearing long black robes was moving along the snow, slowly walking toward James, who pulled out his Lancer and raised it at the Theron Sentinel. It simply swung at him, slamming its large fist into the man’s rifle, sending it flying off the edge of the cliff and into the forest below. It then send its fist around for another strike, connecting with the mans helmet, sending him flying backwards into the rocks.

Vince looked over at Liam, who started running at the beast, his chainsaw bayonet revving madly. He swung at the beast, chipping the chainsaw’s teeth into the Locust’s arm, sending blood gashing out, the Locust grabbed the man with one hand by the neck and pulled a pistol from its belt. It raised it to the mans helmet and roared, pulling the trigger and sending a bullet through his helmet and into Liam’s forehead. Vince was shocked, he couldn’t move.

The beast dropped Liam’s body; it landed in the snow with a soft thud, blood pouring out of the hole in his helmet.

Vince looked at Kane, who was shouting something. Vince couldn’t hear him; the beast was approaching him, hissing. He raised his Lancer and fired three times… the bullets simply bounced off the Theron’s Armour. It sent its large fist soaring toward Vince, the knuckles slammed into his mouth, sending blood flying out through his gritted teeth. Vince fell to the floor… looking to his left at Kane, who was still screaming something and firing his pistol at the beast. It simply turned and fired its pistol at him once, sending Kane down to the ground, landing with a thud.
Vince looked up one more time, the beast brought its fist down again, slamming it into his face.

Then everything was dark and silent.

    Chapter 7 - Red Snow

Vince continued down the long, narrow road ahead of him… everything was either destroyed or decaying in this city. He wondered if he were the last man alive on Sera, it frightened him, an unbearable thought.

He had been walking for what seemed like forever, but he knew very well it had only been a week. He and Beth had lived in the center of the city; therefore it was at least three hours drive to get to the bridge that led out.
Vince stopped at the next street corner… he was exhausted; it was also getting dark, which meant more problems.
He moved into the building on his right, it seemed to have working power, of which he desperately needed. Vince took a seat on a couch inside, pulling out his gas lantern and stood up, moving into what seemed like a kitchen. He rummaged through the drawers and cupboards, finding a few cans of food and some utensils. He placed them on the floor in front of the sofa and opened them with his hunting knife… it looked like beans of some sort. He honestly didn’t care, he simply ate the entire can in a matter of minutes, throwing it into the fire he had made.

It had so far been five weeks since Beth had been killed, for the first month he simply sat at home, hoping the Locust would come. He always had random burst of anger at which times he would break something or shoot one of the dead, decaying bodies lying outside the door. He had buried Beth in the backyard and made a tombstone out of a rock.

Vince dismissed his thoughts, moving downstairs to find a fuse box of some kind, even if he found it; he had no idea how to fix it if it was out of order. He came across an old looking box of fuses, it was empty however. The fuse box was right next to it on the wall, he fiddled around with it, being zapped a few times by small volts of electricity until the lights sprang to life, revealing several corpses beside him, two Human, one Locust. He shivered a little, it was freezing. He walked back up the short staircase, his fire was doing nicely and the sun was almost set.

He pulled a blanket out of his bag and laid down on the couch, pulling it over him, closing his eyes as he heard the shrieking howl of the flying creatures outside. He sighed, slowly drifting off to sleep.

    ****

Vince awoke slowly, his head was aching badly and his nose felt like it had been snapped off.

He opened his eyes, feeling the cold snow on his cheek. His mangled helmet in the snow beside him.

His vision slowly became clearer, making out two objects in front of him… one looked like it was standing over the other. He suddenly felt a cold chill as he remembered what had happened.

“Kane…” He whispered weakly, pulling himself over a bit to get a clearer view.

“Kane.” He said, a little louder.

The figure had obviously heard him, it was too small to be the Theron, he paused as his vision became clear, revealing a wretch standing over Kane’s body… the snow around the body was blood red. Vince feared the worst.

The wretch let off a strange grunt and pounced onto Vince, its large jaws gnashing at his face. He grabbed its neck, only to have the creature simply bite his wrist, sending blood dripping down onto Vince’s face. It gave a small howl as Vince twisted its head with all his strength, a small snap sounded and Vince sighed, dropping the creature out of his grasp and kicking it off his body. He tried to stand, blood was still oozing off his hand and dripping down his arm. He grunted, pain striking him as he moved into a seated position and made his way over to Kane, who coughed.

“Kane… are you alright?” Vince exclaimed, moving over the man’s body and looking at his chest, which was covered in blood.

    Kane simply smiled.

    “Good job kid.”

He then closed his eyes and his head leaned on its left.

“No, c’mon Kane stay with me.”

Vince punched his fist into the ground, he was gone.

Vince grabbed the man’s Lancer. He turned around slowly… three more bodies littered the ground… all had been gnawed at and splattered over the snow. Vince felt himself being lifted, he hugged his Lancer to his chest and held the trigger tight as he was swung around and sent flying back into the snow. He opened his eyes… the same Theron was walking toward him, Lancer in hand with the bayonet revving. Vince smiled and rose to his feet. He knew what it wanted, it was the same thing he did, Revenge.

    ****

Retaac hissed as the human began revving its own chainsaw bayonet and smiled. It had been a long day, he intended on ending this.

He brought his chainsaw up into the air, revving wildly. The Human did the same.

    Then, it began.

Retaac lunged at the Human, slamming his chainsaw against the other, sending smoke and sparks in every direction. Retaac pushed harder and harder, the Human was fairly strong, he was however no match for a Locust.

Retaac pushed down on the man, sending him to his knees, he continued pushing down on him until the human sprung up, sending Retaac sprawling backwards, he almost lost his balance, he steadied himself, looking back at the Human, who threw his Lancer into the air and caught it , the bayonet was now on the top side of his weapon. He then sent it like a dagger into Retaac’s chest, the pain was unbearable. All Retaac saw was the man grinning deviously, all he could do was watch as his own blood was spilled everywhere. He fell to the floor and with his final breath he hissed his last three simple words.

    “For the queen.”

    Chapter 8 - Extraction

(This is just part 1 of Chapter 8, enjoy.)

Vince sat in the cold snow, looking down at his Lancer, of which was still covered in dark red blood.
He rested his head on the rock behind him and closed his eyes. The sound of the Raven in the distance growing louder.

Vince’s eyes flew open quickly; he looked around the lightly lit room… he could hear something down in the street. He quickly put out the fire… it was morning now, he had no further use of it. He stood up slowly and peered out the window, five Locust drones were moving down the street dragging three men behind him… they all seemed unconscious.

He pulled up his shotgun and cocked it, sending an empty shell to the floor with a small ding. He ran down the stairs and moved up next to the exit and waited silently, peering out to the side every few seconds.

The Locust came into view slowly, they seemed to be heading for his building, he took a deep breath and swung his shotgun to his left, slamming it into one of the Locust’s forehead as it walked in the door, sending it falling back out. The other two withdrew their weapons as Vince walked out the door and fired a shot at one, causing its head to explode as the shell left the barrel, sending blood and shrapnel all over the wall. The second fired a shot, barely missing Vince’s shoulder. He swung the shotgun around again, slamming it into the beast’s leg and sending it to the floor.

He moved over the withering body and sent his foot down on its neck, snapping its spine and sending its head bouncing across the street. The last two Locusts advanced on him, both weren’t carrying weapons. The first sent its first toward Vince, who fired his shotgun as it came close, sending the beasts arm off its shoulder and onto the street… it fell to the floor howling in pain as the other took a swing, just reaching Vince’s face and sending him back into the door. He almost lost balance but steadied himself as the creature took another swing. Vince pulled a fragmentation grenade off his belt and activated it, slamming it into the beast’s thigh and rolled backwards. He watched as the beast exploded, sending organs and blood all over the room and Vince. He let out a laugh as the blood oozed down the walls.

Vince opened his eyes to a man knelt down beside him, who was bandaging up his wounded arm, he looked around a little, dazed. He was onboard a Raven, surrounded by a few Cog’s and Colonel Hoffman… it looked like they were almost back at Jacinto.

“You alright son?” Hoffman asked as the man finished off his bandages.

Vince smiled, feeling his nose; it felt like it was broken.

“Great.” He snickered as the Raven touched down on the landing pad above the armory.

Vince noticed he was lying on a stretcher; he stood up and hopped out of the Raven, his legs seared in pain as he hit the ground below. He shook it off, moving down the long staircase behind Hoffman and the three other Cogs’ that had been aboard the Raven.

They eventually made their way to Hoffman’s office and he dismissed the others, telling Vince to once again take a seat.

“Son. I know it’s been a tough day but I need you to tell me everything that happened out there.”

Vince nodded and began telling Hoffman the events that had taken place today… his mind was elsewhere however as he drifted off into his thoughts.

Vince once again sat down to eat another can of preserves, this time it was some kind of macaroni or pasta. He noticed one of the three men he had left downstairs stir. He put down the can and picked up his pistol, loading it quickly. Vince walked down the stairs toward the man and placed the pistol just above his head. Ready to fire.

”Wake up” Vince said, kicking the man in the leg.

The man stirred again, opening his eyes slowly, jumping at the sight of the pistol.

“Who are you?” Vince asked calmly.

“I—I’m Wes.” The man managed to say as he looked around.

“That’s Kurt,” He said, pointing the man next to him.

    “And that’s Derrick.”

Vince lowered his pistol and helped the man to his feet. They then shook hands.

“I’m Vince.” He stated as Wes moved over to wake up the others. Having no success, he turned back to Vince.

    ”How did we get here…?”

    Vince smiled.

    “I saved you’re ass.”

“Well… thanks.” Wes said, taking a seat on the couch upstairs.

Vince decided he should probably get moving.

    (Chapter 8 part 2)

Vince finished up his report on the mission with waking up on the Raven. Hoffman nodded.

"You did a good job son..."

    Vince sighed, he dissagreed.

Hoffman typed something into his computer system and sighed. Vince knew what he was doing... it was almost as if he could see through the back of the computer monitor.

    Kayne Herolds... KIA
    Liam Forge... KIA
    James Forge... KIA
    Greg (Grease) Hoffman... KIA

Vince didn't know any of his former squadmembers sirnames... he honestly didn't wan't to know either. He wanted to forget this entire day.

"Private, take a week off... I'll call you when you're needed for duty again" Hoffman said, still typing on his computer.

    "Dissmissed."

(Sorry this chapter was short, I couldn't finish chapter 8 in one go as I had to catch a plane. Thanks for reading.)

Chapter 9 - Welcome to the Family

Vince lay awake on his bed inside his small hotel room he had been provided... it had been a week now since the mission, he hadn't really enjoyed his week off either. He had spent most of his time sleeping and drinking. He had met a few more people at the bar outside the hotel, but he had been keeping to himself. He stood up out of his bed and checked the clock hanging on the wall. It was seven in the morning.

He walked into the small bathroom and took a shower, throwing on new clothes and walking back out into his room. He noticed his headset was activated; he walked over to it and put it on his ear. Hoffman was speaking.

“Private, come down to my office at about midday. You’re back in action.”

Vince was sort of pleased; he needed to get back into the fray.

He quickly grabbed his large coat off the armchair beside his bed and headed on out into the staircase beside his door. It seemed to get more cramped every time he came home. Vince passed the bartended and said hello before moving out onto the street and walking through the still dark streets. He looked up at the wall beside him; UV lights were shining brightly as far as he could see… it was a precaution against the Kryll. Of course, Jacinto wasn’t as badly affected against the terrifying Kryll, the last pack had come about eight months ago and didn’t make it past the wall. Colonel Hoffman had made sure they had every possible defense against the Kryll, soldiers were stationed on UV turrets around the city at all times, also, every single building in Jacinto had lights running all through the night. Each building was supplied its own generator. It seemed to work.

Vince kept moving, eventually coming to the barracks. He entered, there weren’t many people around at this time of the morning… work didn’t officially start in Jacinto until nine. He walked up the staircase to Hoffman’s office and knocked on the door. Hoffman came over and opened it, telling him to have a seat.

”Private. I know it’s been a tough week but we need you back into a squad. Every Coalition soldier needs to be on the frontline. Every Locust we kill moves us a step closer to winning this war.”

Vince nodded, waiting for Hoffman to speak again.

“While you were on ‘holiday’ another city sank right into the ground, this time the Locust hit a little closer to Jacinto.”

Vince opened his mouth to ask what city it was but Hoffman must have known his question.

    “Tollen.”

Vince was shocked. Another city, gone.

Hoffman took a seat behind the desk and passed a sheet of paper to Vince.

“Based on what you showed on your first mission, I’d say you’re a damn fine soldier son.” He said, writing something down on a piece of paper.

“I’m placing you in Delta Squad. You heard of it?”

Vince nodded. He had heard about Delta squad’s successful mission to deploy the light mass bomb, but it obviously hadn’t defeated the Locust.

“Good.” Hoffman said, passing him another sheet of paper, Vince briefly looked at it… it seemed to be plans for something.

“I think it’s about time we took the fight to the enemy, don’t you agree?”

Vince smiled and nodded. He liked where this was going.

“At midday today, a massive assault will be thrown at the Locust. We’re heading to Landown, it seems like the next place the Locust are going to hit.” Hoffman said, slamming his fist down on the desk.

“But, before they come up. We’re going down.”

Vince headed down to the armory to gear up, the Assault was taking place in less then an hour, he was to meet with Delta Squad on the roof where a Raven is waiting to take them to the Assault Derrick convoy that’s en route to Landown.

He quickly loaded a Lancer and pushed it onto the magnetic seal on his Armour and walked out of the armory, heading up the stairs toward the roof. He opened the door to see three people standing in front of him. He immediately recognized two of them as ‘Dominic Santiago’ and ‘Marcus Fenix’, the third had a helmet on, Vince hadn’t picked one up, not after the last one had caused him to fall unconscious after it had been damaged.

Vince moved over to Marcus and held out his hand, offering a handshake.

“Sergeant Fenix?” Vince said as the man shook his hand.

    “Yep. Welcome to the family."

    Chapter 10 - Assault

Vince felt the breeze flowing over his face and the roaring sound of the Raven as he opened his eyes… he always fell asleep during the flights.

“Vince, grab you’re weapon, we’re landing on the second Derrick in the convoy.” Marcus announced, pulling Vince to his feet and passing him an extra ammo clip.

    “It’s going to get heated.”
Vince looked over the side of the Raven as it touched down on the Derrick; he jumped off, followed by Dom, Marcus and the third soldier. They all walked over to a man who was giving orders to the Derrick workers.

“Ah, you must be Marcus Fenix.” The man said, spitting off the side of the stationary Derrick and doing a large snort.

“Yeah, you Dizzy?” Marcus said, his Lancer resting in his hands.

“Sure am, now, make yourselves comfortable, I have a Derrick to drive.” Dizzy said, spitting again and walking off through a door.

Vince turned around and took a look at the countryside. All around them was mountains and forest, off in the distance the small outline of a city could be seen on the horizon of the midday sun.
He looked over at Marcus and Dom, who were also surveying the surroundings. Something wasn’t right… they were well within enemy territory and no Locust were to be seen. He was pulled out of his day dreaming by the sound of the Raven taking off again, Vince turned around and watched it rise into the sky. Suddenly, the Raven exploded, sending Vince falling backwards onto the floor, he looked up to see a burning metal object falling down toward him, he rolled left, almost falling right off the edge of the Derrick, someone caught his hand however, he looked up, Dom was standing over him, pulling him up.

“Thanks man.” Vince managed to say, looking over at the burning piece of metal that was lying where he had been moments ago.

“No problem.” Dom said, loading his Lancer with a small click.

“Reavers!” The man in the helmet yelled as he fired madly into the air.

They moved over to where Marcus was taking cover, he was firing at a Reaver that was trying to board the Derrick. Locust were suddenly everywhere, on the ground, in the sky.

“Keep the Reavers away from the Derrick!” Marcus yelled as the Reaver crashed down to the ground, the Derrick bumped as it rolled over it.

“And dead!” Dom yelled as he took down another.
Vince looked down at the hundreds of Locust firing at the Derrick, he fired his Lancer in bursts, taking down about eight before looking at the Derrick in front of them as it burst into flames and fell off the side of the mountain. There was a loud bang as it exploded off the edge.

“Damn it!” Dom yelled, Vince glanced over at him; his weapon was jammed and looked pretty bad. He pulled out his pistol and tossed it to him.

“Thanks” Dom said as he continued firing into the masses of Locust.

Vince glanced back at the Derrick behind them, it was gaining speed fast, and it came up beside them and slammed into the Derrick.

“What the hell?” Vince said, raising his head. Three bullets whizzed past him, he quickly got back down and glanced at the third Derrick, Locust were all over it.

“Marcus! To the left!” Vince yelled as he opened fire on the Locust that were so close to them, two leapt from the Derrick, one made it, the other however, fell off the side and was instantly killed. Vince stood up and revved his chainsaw madly, sending it down at the Locust, who did the same. Their chainsaw’s collided, much like the experience with the Locust in the past week. The images of his dead squad flashed through his mind, causing him to rage. He pushed down as hard as he could, sending the Locust sprawling on the floor. He then dropped his Lancer to the ground and flipped the Locust onto its back. He sent fist after fist into the Locust’ head until blood oozed over his hands. He stood up and wiped his face, picking up his Lancer again. The third Derrick slowed to a halt as all the Locust onboard were killed. He glanced over at Marcus, who was firing at a Locust climbing up a rope; a hook was latched onto the side of the Derrick.

“Get the hooks off!” Marcus shouted, kicking a Locust in the face and sending it back down to the ground. Vince jumped as a hook landed right beside him; he aimed his Lancer off the edge and fired at the Locust climbing the rope, sending it flying back down onto another group of Locust. He then kicked the hook off the edge as another landed beside him, followed by another. He slammed the back of his Lancer against a Locust’ face as it pulled itself aboard, sending it to the floor. He then fired three shots into its face and turned around to find a Locust standing behind him.

“Oh ****.” He exclaimed as it swung at him, sending him off the side of the Derrick, he reached for the rope above him as he fell and started to pull himself back up. The Locust stood above him, grinning; it reached down for the hook only to have a Chainsaw slammed through its back. Blood splattered out and over Vince below as the body fell off the edge to reveal Marcus now standing where the Locust had been. Vince continued climbing until he was back on the Derrick. He glanced around at Dom, who was firing at another Reaver, of which collapsed to reveal a large figure charging toward them from the distance. Vince stood frozen, it was massive.

“Brumaks!” Marcus yelled as he took cover. Vince followed.

The ‘Brumak’ made its way up beside the Derrick, allowing several Theron Guards to jump aboard the Derrick, Marcus and Dom simply killed them as they landed. The Brumak then moved up the road, it was significantly faster then the Derrick. It grabbed a hold of the Derrick ahead of them and pulled it down, obviously not aware of the weight as the Derrick came crashing down upon it, killing it instantly.

Another Brumak was attacking a Coalition tank; the tank simply blew off its face, sending blood and a massive body crashing down the side of the mountain. The last Brumak stood up the road; it looked as if it was arming weapons.

“****! Vince get on the Minigun, Dom and I will cover you!” Marcus yelled over the sound of the fray, Vince didn’t think twice. He quickly moved onto the minigun and opened fire on the Brumak; five or so missiles soared above his head, missing him by about a meter. He fired at the Brumaks left arm, disabling its weaponry, then at the right, disabling that too. He then concentrated his fire on its face, the beast eventually jerked back as its face was torn apart by the minigun fire, sending the Derrick slamming into it, pushing the beast out of the way and clearing the road.

Vince’s ears wouldn’t stop ringing, the sound of the minigun was deafening, and his hands were still shaking from the vibration also.

“Nice work Private.” Marcus said, patting him on the shoulder.

“Thanks.” Vince said. Looking around at the Locust and Coalition bodies that littered the floor around him. He turned as Dizzy came out of the control room and whistled.

“Damn! That was a hell of a party!” He yelled, taking a large whiff of the air.

“Nothing like the smell of gunpowder before lunch.”

The Derrick came to a stop at the edge of the city. All four members of Delta Squad stood at the front of the Derrick, looking at the destroyed city below. It wasn’t sunk yet.

    Vince noticed Marcus grin.

    “Now the fun begins.”

    Chapter 11 - Decent

(This ones a big one! )

Vince was once again walking down the long, dead streets of Montevado… it filled him with grief over all the lost Human lives… the smell was a bit funky also.

Something roared in the distance… It sounded like that of a Locust, yet much loader.

Vince moved to the side of the street, it was getting close to sundown, he had been walking a lot longer then he had thought.

There was a loud cracking sound, much like a Longshot rifle.

Vince took cover in some shadows in a nearby house and peered out the window. A figure appeared in the distance up the road, it was too far away to see… although, what was behind it was clear. Five Locust were running after the figure, which was now close enough to recognize as a man, he looked like a Coalition soldier.

Vince watched as the man stopped for a moment and sprayed his weapon in its direction, hitting one of the Locust in the leg and sending it down into the road. The man started running again, he was almost at Vince’s location.

Vince moved out of the doorway beside him and fired a shot from his Lancer, hitting one of the Locust in the head and sending it falling beside its companion, which was surrounded by a pool of blood. The man yelled something at Vince, he didn’t hear him. He simply grabbed him and threw the man inside, firing a few more shots that took down yet another drone, killing it before it hit the ground. Vince dropped his Lancer to the floor quickly as the last Locust grew closer; it wasn’t armed with a weapon. He pulled out his shotgun and charged at it, the Locust obviously had the same idea, it sprinted as fast as it could at Vince, sending its fist into his chest and sending him back, he dropped his shotgun as he fell, it rolled off back into the house. Vince looked up to see the Locust kneeling over him and raising its fist. Suddenly, a shotgun burst ripped the Locust in half, sending its torso onto Vince’s head and sending the legs sprawling across the street. He threw the Locust body aside and stood up, looking at the Coalition soldier, of whom had fired the shot.

“Thanks” Vince stated, picking up his Lancer and placing it on his back.

There was a loud bang at the end of the street, the sun was still slowly moving toward the horizon.

The bang sounded again as a large creature that was at least twice the size of Vince burst through a wall and slammed into a car, sending it up in flames.

“****! Run!” Vince heard the man say, without hesitating, Vince moved back down the street, there was a large mall just back a bit, he decided to run in, and the man would follow. He pulled the doors open quickly and allowed he and the man inside before slamming it shut, still hearing the loud footsteps of the creature outside. He barricaded the door with a large vending machine to his left; it probably wouldn’t hold the beast.

Vince backed away from the door as something slammed into it.

It banged again, causing a large dent to form in the door.

Vince turned to the Coalition soldier, who was loading Vince’s shotgun before throwing it back to him.

”C’mon. That wont hold it for long.”

Vince shook his memories away; he was standing beside Marcus and Dom, who were both eating some ration packs. They had a few hours to kill before Dizzy had the drill ready; their job was to protect the Derrick against any attacks, obviously.

Four more men sat at the other side of the platform, all were also eating. Vince had finished his food in a matter of seconds; he hadn’t eaten for at least two days.

Vince looked over at Dom as he began to speak.

“So, Marcus, you ever been here before the war?”

    Marcus looked at Dom.

    “Can’t say I have.”

    Dom smiled.

    “It was a ****hole anyway.”

Vince laughed at the remark, as did the man who was still wearing his mask.

They all turned as Dizzy shouted he was almost done, they continued looking out at the city, it was very quiet and eerie. A dead city right in front of them.

The air was warm, prime for war. The heat of battle was calling, almost in grasp. He just had to be patient was all. Patience is a virtue of which most Locust do not posses. But he was different. That’s why he had been selected to take RAAM’s place… he was different.

Lataak grinned, his large black robes falling down as he stood up. He looked over his troops; at least fifty drones and Theron’s alike were crowding the large street. Most were on the bottom story of buildings, arming themselves and preparing for the bloodshed to come. Lataak turned as two of his guards approached him, dragging the body of another locust behind them, one holding one arm, the other holding the second.

Lataak moved over to them slowly, taking in a large whiff of air as the Locust was dropped to its knees.

He moved up close and put his large finger under its chin, causing its head to rise, their eyes met, it was eerie for moment, and the Theron was obviously petrified. Lataak smiled and pushed his finger away and took a step back, firmly standing upright.

“I’m disappointed.” He hissed, brushing some dirt off his shoulder.

The Locust did not speak, it simply listened. It knew of its crimes.

Lataak grunted. He was extremely disappointed about what he had to do… weakness will not be tolerated in the Locust Horde.

He pulled up the Theron from the ground and raised him to his face.

“No more failures Keteer.” He whispered, throwing the Locust down to the floor and walking back to his position above the entire army before him.

“Take my drones and assault the Human’s on the outskirts of the city. They’re plan must not be taken into effect.” He growled as the Locust got to its feet.

“I shall not fail General.” It said back, it’s English was a lot worse than his own.

    “See that you don’t.”

Vince sat down on the safety bar around the platform; the drill was almost ready… it felt like they had been sitting around for days.

Dom and Marcus were both seated beside him; the third man was apparently asleep nearby. Vince didn’t blame him, he too was tired.

Vince caught a glimpse of something in the corner of his eye. He stood up and took a look around. Once again, something flashed as if it was reflecting off of something. His heart stopped as he realized what it was.

“Sniper!” He screamed as he jumped down behind one of the panels on the platform, a bullet slammed into one of the men across the platform’s neck, sending him to the floor kicking and grasping his neck. Moments after the shot had been fired, gunfire ripped out in the distance, bullets started ricocheting off their surroundings, and they had enough cover for everyone.

“I knew it was too easy.” Dom said, blind firing over his shoulder. They couldn’t see where the bullets were coming from, it looked like the Locust were in buildings all around the cities edge. Vince signaled tone of the Cog’s to pass him his longshot rifle; in return he threw over his Lancer.

Vince peered around his cover, keeping the sniper low, along with his body. Another bullet whizzed overhead, there was a long line through the air indicating where the bullet had been fired. Vince zoomed in with his scope to see a Locust sniper reloading his rifle. Vince pulled the trigger as the aimer moved over the Locust’s head, sending the gun back into his shoulder as the bullet ripped out the barrel, he looked in the scope again to find a large blood smear on the wall behind where the sniper had been. He smiled. One down.

Lataak remained where he had been standing, listening to the battle ahead. He would move in once the battle was well underway. It was the formation of the Locust. The leaders entered the battle last.

He turned to his three guards, who were the finest the Locust had to offer at this time. They were Loyal and willing to risk their lives for the queen… that was enough for Lataak.

He began walking down the steps of the small building they had occupied as their command center, he moved out onto the street, his guards following. He had been waiting to avenge RAAM’s death for what seemed like an eternity.

Vince kept firing, taking out one sniper after another until the bullets stopped for a moment as drones started pouring out the streets and out onto the large landscape ahead of them. There were at least forty or fifty.

“Marcus! We can’t hold off that many troops.” Vince shouted over the loud gunfire.

Marcus nodded in agreement. He too knew they couldn’t.

“Dizzy! Hurry up will you its getting heated out here.”

”Ten more minutes are all I need!” He shouted back, Marcus groaned.

“Alright, Dom you take the middle groups, Vince will take left and I’ll take right.” Marcus shouted, Vince and Dom nodded and started firing.

    “Everyone else, fire at will!”

The fight was insane; Locust kept coming no matter how many he killed. He just kept firing; he only had about ten shots left on his rifle. He loaded in another shot and fired it into a Locust’s chest, the bullet ripped through and slammed into another’s head, causing it to explode and both drop dead. Vince let off a loud laugh as he reloaded his rifle. He noticed three Locust setting up a Troika turret on a building in front of them. He aimed down the barrel and fired, ripping one of the Locust in two, the second ducked for cover while the third nailed the last bolt into the base, shortly after, Vince took off the beasts head. The last mounted the turret and opened fire. Vince couldn’t get a shot on him; the Armour of the turret was too thick.

“Dom, help me take out that Troika!” He shouted, heavy bullets slamming into the metal around him, making a deafening sound.

Dom nodded and fired at the Troika, causing it to change its target. Vince had a clear view of the Locust now. He scoped in on it and fired, sending the bullet into the Locust’s head, ripping it off its shoulders and sending the limp, blood covered body sprawling down off the side of the building.

“Dizzy!” Marcus yelled once again, Vince could hear Dizzy shouting back; he needed a few more minutes, time which they may not have.

There was a loud bang beneath them and the Derrick shook wildly, Vince looked at Marcus, who cursed under his breath.

“Alright Delta cover that door!” He yelled as he spun his weapon around, Vince was low on ammo, three shots left. Nevertheless he aimed his Longshot at the door, there was an eerie silence as the shooting stopped, a light appeared at the top of the door and made its way through until it reached the spot were it had begun, making the shape of a perfect circle.

The door suddenly blew open, sending it off its hinges and right at Dom, who rolled out of the way and fired into the smoke inside the door.

“Keep them away from Dizzy!” Marcus yelled as he fired his shotgun into a Locust’s head, causing blood to spew all over another, who was killed by Dom.

Vince aimed down his barrel and fired at a Locust who was attempting to chainsaw a fellow Cog, the bullet took the creatures head clean off, sending its Lancer sprawling toward him. He reached down to pick it up, but something slammed into his chest, sending him left into the railing, a fist slammed into his face twice, causing a stream of blood to trickle out of his mouth. He pushed the drone off him and threw it onto the floor; he pulled up his Longshot and spun it in the air, now holding the barrel. He slammed the end of the gun into the Locust’s head, crushing it under his strength. He smiled as blood oozed out onto the platform.

Vince turned around as Dizzy came running up the stairs, screaming and firing his pistol into a Locust, sending it flying off the edge of the Derrick.

“Alright boys get to the drill, I’ll hold these bastards off!” He yelled, Vince picked up the Lancer and loaded in a new clip. He then moved behind Dizzy, followed by Marcus, Dom and two men wearing helmets, the rest had been slaughtered. They marched down the staircase quickly, coming to a large drill platform beneath the last.

“Dizzy c’mon!” Marcus yelled, hearing no reply.

“****!” He said, slamming his fist into the button to activate the lift. They slowly started to descend into the abyss below.

Lataak moved through the Human vehicle, it was much larger than any he had seen before… there was however reports of mobile drilling platforms.

He moved to the top level, hearing gunfire. He stepped through the door, a drone in front of him collapsed to the floor, blood spraying out of its neck. He looked to his left; one man was standing there with a Boltok pistol. One man.

Lataak withdrew his large sword from his belt; it glinted in the light of the sun beaming down upon them. He began walking to the man, a bullet slammed into his shoulder, bouncing off the strong, black Armour covering most of his body. The man shot another bullet; it too bounced off his Armour.

Lataak moved to the man and slammed his fist into the Human’s face, sending him flying backwards into the railing.

Lataak moved over him and picked him up by the through, his large hands could easy crush the mans skull.

“All shall fall before the Horde.” He hissed dropping the man to his knees. He pulled the sword to the Human’s neck and sliced, blood squirting out everywhere as the man gasped for air. Lataak raised his leg and slammed it into his chest, sending the man flying off the edge. He pushed the sword back into its holster and moved down to the next platform. It was too late. The Human’s had already descended into the ground.

He turned to find Keteer lying on the floor in a pool of blood, he was still moving.

Lataak moved over to him, kneeling down beside his body.

“Father—“ Keteer managed to say, his voice was weak.

    “H… help me.”

Lataak sighed and withdrew his pistol. He pushed it into his son’s mouth and fired.

“Weakness will not be tolerated in the horde.”

Ok, I read it all, and was just wondering, why do you capitalize and use ' on humans? It's just kind of distracting, oh there are a few grammatical errors, but it's looking good so far.

    Chapter 12 - Underground

The lift hummed softly as it slowly moved through the hole the Derrick had drilled. It was dark and eerie. They had been going down for at least five minutes now, the darkness just seemed to get thicker and thicker. Vince felt around beside him, finding the railing on his left, he held on… they had no idea what was waiting for them below.

The lift made a beeping sound as it stopped moving. Vince stepped off into the barely lit caverns ahead of him… the only light was coming from several tunnel’s leading to the surface… probably emergence holes.
The place was huge, the tunnel they stood in stretched as far as Vince could see and toward the end it seemed to get darker and darker.

“Alright. Let’s move” Marcus said softly, pulling his Lancer up and walking slowly forward, Vince followed along with Dom and the two men. There was a long walk ahead… Vince was lost in his thoughts once again.

Vince and the Coalition soldier walked through the dark, abandoned mall… several shops were completely destroyed; others had been looted on E-day. He held his breath as they passed five corpses lying in a pile; all were covered in insects of various types. They had been ripped to shreds.

Vince continued walking, the small was unbearable.

”So, what’s you’re name?” Vince said quietly… he had no idea if that thing was inside.

“Private Jade. Coalition of Ordered Governments.” The man replied softly, looking toward a large hole in the wall… it seemed to have been broken from the inside. Something had tried to get out. They moved over to the hole, which was almost filled with rubble and Locust bodies… they looked like drones.

“Keep moving.” ‘Jade’ said as he continued walking. Vince didn’t disobey. He was happy to be around a soldier for the first time since he had encountered the Locust.

“So, what’s yours” Jade asked calmly and quietly.

    “Vince.”

“Nice to meet you Vince. Wish it could have been under better circumstances.”

Vince chuckled a little. There weren’t many ‘better circumstances’ these days, not with the damn Locust trying to kill you every waking hour.

There was a loud bang followed by a crash very far behind them. Vince turned around, he couldn’t see anything. It was too dark.

“Don’t say a word.” Jade whispered to Vince as he pointed toward a staircase nearby. Vince nodded and slowly started walking toward it. He heard a loud screaming noise coming from behind him and the sound of very large footsteps. He noticed Jade picking up his pace, which was already at the top of the staircase. They moved down the next hallway, it was shorter than the last and had lots of pillars, tables and chairs around. It must’ve been the food court.

Vince followed Jade to one of the stores, it was a fast food outlet, and a dead body was lying on the grill in the back. He pointed to Vince to kneel down behind the counter, without hesitating, Vince moved behind it and hugged his shotgun to his chest. He peered over as Jade moved to the other side of the food court and hid in another outlet. There was a loud screaming noise again, Vince heard the large footsteps approaching… it seemed to be picking up pace. Vince made sure none of his body was showing, he heard the beast turn the corner and sniff the air. He heard it snarl as it poked its large head over the counter right above Vince; he peered up at the creature. He had briefly seen it from a distance, but up close it was no pretty sight. It had a large, Locust-looking face with spikes poking out of almost every centimeter of its body. Its skin didn’t look soft either, it seemed like large rocks covered it.

He watched as the creature took another sniff, it peered down toward him, looking right through him. It seemed blind.

Vince was petrified, he couldn’t move; breathe of even concentrate on what was going on. He watched as the beast screamed loudly and slammed its fist into the counter beside Vince, this caused him to move sideways, and apparently it knew he was here now. It raised its fist again to strike him, however, its head jerked back to look in the other direction; Vince listened as he heard Jade shouting.

    “Hey you ****er! Remember me!?”

There was a loud explosion, which sent the beast flying over the counter and into the store. Vince didn’t waste a moment. He jumped up to see Jade standing there with a large Locust weapon in his hand. They both ran down the final corridor toward the exit, the creature was giving chase, Vince could hear it screaming behind them. Jade suddenly stopped, causing Vince to almost crash into him.

“What are you doing? Lets go!” Vince screamed, beginning to run again, he was now at the exit. All he had to do was push.

“Go! I’ll catch up.” Jade said, aiming his weapon into the air.

Vince pushed open the door and waited for him to follow. He watched in horror as the beast slammed into him, causing his body to shatter under its weight. Jade’s last ounce of strength pulled the trigger on his weapon, causing the room of the mall to collapse over him and the creature. Vince dove backwards and landed on the road. He picked himself up and tried to find Jade, it was hopeless. He was gone.

Lataak moved through the long hall of the Royal Palace, it was rather pleasing that Lataak would see the queen again after so many years. His Theron Guard’s behind him stopped at the door as he entered into the Queen’s chamber. Usually, the Queen did not allow anyone to see her true appearance. Few Locust have been lucky enough to meet her in person, RAAM, Lataak and a few other high ranking General’s had been introduced to her. Only RAAM had seen her true appearance.

Lataak moved up to the throne before him and knelt. Keeping his head low as the Queen was escorted in. She moved onto the throne and raised her hand in the air; Lataak rose to his feet and bowed. He looked over her, she had large black robes, much like his own, the only difference was a special part on the head and neck. Lataak didn’t know what the purposes of these devices were, nor did it matter.

“My Queen.” He said, finishing his bow and standing tall.

“Lataak. What is the meaning of this meeting?” She said, her voice was calm and deep. She spoke the best English in the entire Locust Horde.

“A human squad has intruded on the outskirts of the Hollow.” Lataak said.

The Queen hissed loudly in annoyance. Lataak simply bowed his head.

    “How many.”

“Unknown. More human drilling platform’s were placed in the same area a few hours ago.”

    The Queen hissed again.

“Do not let them enter the Hollow.”

“Sergeant Fenix do you copy, over.”

Vince’s headset rang as the voice came over it.

“Copy that Command, loud and clear.”

The voice paused for a moment before another voice appeared, Colonel Hoffman.

“Fenix, the reinforcements are drilling down now, may take about an hour, over.”

    Marcus sighed.

”Roger that we are moving through the Locust tunnel’s approximately three clicks from you’re Location.”

    There was a brief pause.

    ”Alright Fenix, see you soon.”

Marcus looked over Delta Squad; everyone was tired and a little shaken up.

There was a rumbling sound inside the walls of the tunnel. There were several clicks as everyone loaded they’re weapons. Vince turned on his flashlight that was mounted to his Lancer and moved it around the walls. Something was digging toward them.

There was a loud crash as a large, worm-like creature slammed through the ceiling and right on top of one of the men wearing a mask, who was instantly crushed by its weight.

The thing was enormous, it looked like a Rockworm, but Vince had been told they were harmless…

They opened fire, most of the bullets simply bouncing off the creature’s Armour-like skin.

“Concentrate you’re fire to its mouth!” Marcus shouted as he fired a bullet into the creature’s mouth, causing it to recoil back a little. Vince sprayed several bursts at the creature’s face, a few bullets ripped into its mouth, sending blood dripping out its mouth. They continued firing at the beast, it seemed to be working. They all fired one more burst into its head, causing the creature to drop to the floor, dead.

“Whoa! What the hell as that thing?” Shouted the man in the helmet, who had been referred to as ‘Ben’.

“Rockworm… I think.” Vince said, kicking the beast’s body. It was almost as hard as steel.

“Whatever the hell it is, it’s dead now.” Dom said, smiling.

“Alright lets keep going. Hoffman will be here soon with reinforcements. Hopefully, we’ve found the battle by then.”

    Chapter 13 - The Caverns

    (Part 1)

Vince slammed his leg into the large metal door infront of him. It was fairly thick.

Marcus moved over next to him and did the same, both they're strength combined caused the door to fall off its hinges and slam on the floor below. A terrible odour came from inside the dark hallway ahead... they seemed to be entering some kind of building underground.

Vince scoffed at the smell, it was foul. His flashlight on his Lancer shone through the hallway, there was blood all over the floor and walls, it was not at all fresh, It could of been there since E-day for all they knew.

"What the hell is this place...?" Vince heard Dom whisper, he turned his head to face him and shrugged, he had no idea.

There was suddenly a light coming from ahead, a door had appeared in the distance, lights seemed to be on inside.

They picked up thier pace, the walls still had old, light red blood covering them, Vince swore he had kicked at least five corpsers while he had been walking in this place.

Marcus signalled for the Squad to stop, they did so, waiting for him to have a look around the corner. Vince walked up to take a look himself.

The light wasn't light at all, it was Imultion. Bright yellow liquid was being stirred in a large processing pool. They were in an Imultion plant.

"Well... at least theres some light now." Marcus said softly, turning as the rest of the squad walked into the light.

"Well... what now?" Vince said calmly, looking at Marcus and Dom.

    "Now we find the exit."

    ...

Lataak moved slowly through large cavern around him. His three guards following him once again, they had a simply mission. Keep the humans from entering the Hollow.

Lataak's plan was to secure the only entrance into the Hollow from the outside. These Caverns.

The Cavern's surrounding the Hollow were used for many reasons, most of which involve mining Imultion. He moved to the cliff overlooking the entrance the Locust had dug in thier first contact with the human species. It was a mining plant they had building many, many years ago. The Locust had found it a few weeks before E-day. All humans inside had been slaughtered for one purpose, dominance. The humans had been intruding on the Locust's home. Therefore, the Locust intruded on thiers.

He dissmissed his thoughts as he observed the mass of troops below him. Several Brumak's were calmly standing at the back of the forces, while at least two hundred drones were all in position, waiting for the humans to dare try get in to thier homes. Lataak smiled. He was once again, awaiting the heat of battle.

    ...

Vince walked behind Dom, who was chatting with Marcus about someone named Maria, Vince tried not to listen in... it was obviously private. They stopped as the hallway ahead of them stopped, it opened into a massive room with a large door the size of the Jacinto Fortress walls. It seemed like the entrance had been forced to that size...

Bullets suddenly started soaring toward them, Vince noticed one slam into Dom's arm, who dropped to his knees and yelled. Vince grabbed him and pulled hi mto the size behind some cover.

Vince looked at the man's wound, it didn't look too bad. He pulled out a bandage from his size pocket on his belt and started wrapping it around Dom's now blood covered arm. Vince also pulled out a needle filled with fluid that destroys all Imultion in the wound. It was nececary to prevent internal damage... all soldiers carried two needles.

"Don't worry Dom, he just scratched you. You'll be fine."

    Dom grunted and nodded.

    "Thanks bro."

    ...

Lataak smiled as the bullets began to spray into the hole ahead of him. All he could see was about ten drones advancing against them. His grin grew wider as he saw one of the humans drop to his knees after being hit by a bullet. He had expected more then five men. This was going to be much easier then first thought.

    ...

Vince pulled up his Lancer and fired over the concrete slab he and Dom were crouched behind, he peered over to see his bullets ripping into a Drones torso, sending it falling to the floor. He looked over at Marcus, who had done the same thing to another drone.

"There's too many!" Vince heard Ben shout from behind him.

A longshot bullet slammed into the concrete behind Vince, narrowly missing his head. This was insane.

Vince fired a few more shots, taking a Locust down to its knees. He fired one last **** which hit it square in the head, causing it to stop withering.

Vince glanced behind at the second man in the helmet, who rose up to fire at a drone, only to have his head taken clean off his shoulders. Vince froze. The battle was unwinable. Everything else was blocked out besides the sound of his heart beating. He closed his eyes and brang his Lancer up over the concrete, firing into a drone, killing it in a few shots. He fired at a second, which also dropped to the floor and died. He looked up and spotted a sniper perched on a ledge, reloading its rifle.

"Eat this you son of a *****!" Vince yelled as he held down on the trigger of his Lancer as hard as he could, sending bullets spraying out the end and flying through the air, all slammed into the snipers body, causing it to drop off the edge and slam into the ground with a thud. Vince felt himself being grabbed from behind and was suddenly pulled into cover beside Marcus.

"Nice job!" He yelled, poking his head over and taking out another drone and wounding a second. His Lancer clicked three times, indicating low ammo. Vince rose over and finished off the second drone, causing its limp body to fall over and die.

"Dammit! Where's Hoffman!" Shouted Marcus, Vince shrugged as he killed a Theron Guard of which was firing Torque arrows at them.

"He better get here quick! We'll have Locust up to our necks soon."

    ...

Lataak observed the fight below. They humans were making a valiant stand. They're strength had to be admired. However, they had to be dealt with. He stood firm and shouted at the top of his lungs.

    "Advance!"

    (Cheers Jay and babygirl )

    Chapter 13 - The Caverns

    (Part 2)

Vince watched in horror as drone after drone rushed into the large room, all were quickly gunned down by the four men, they all knew they wouldn't last much longer.

    "Fenix!"

Vince heard the voice come over his earpiece, he continued firing as Marcus put his finger to his ear and began yelling something. Vince fired on a drone who was game enough to walk up and try hit Vince with the end of his Hammerburst, Vince simply fired into the Locust's knees, sending it down to the floor, dead.

There was a loud explosion to the left of the Cavern, pieces of rock flew all over the Locust army ahead of them. Vince smiled. He knew who it was.

    ...

Lataak was shocked by the large explosion that rocked the Cavern, a massive hole had been formed in the side of the Caverns wall, human soldiers were pouring out of it. Lataak had no idea how many there were, all he knew was the Locust forces were getting slaughtered. He needed not say anything, his troops knew what to do.

    ...

Vince fired at the last three drones that had entered, killing all of them quickly. Hoffman's reinforcements had caused the entire Locust army ahead of them to change direction.

Vince stood up and walked over to the entrance, passing at least twenty Locust bodies. He looked over at the battle ahead.

He looked over at Marcus, who picked up his Lancer off the ground and activated it, causing blue lights to appear on several parts of the weapon.

He handed it down to Dom, who was still lying on the ground, his bandage was almost completly filled with blood.

Vince loaded his own weapon, waiting for Marcus, who grabbed one of the dead Locust and used it as a meat shield.

It was a calm silence around them. Gunfire could be heard in the distance. Vince was ready and waiting.

Marcus suddenly started running, Vince followed, running as fast as he could. He looked over at Marcus, who was taking heavy fire from a Boomer wielding a Chain gun. Vince fired at the beast whilst he was running, a few bullets hit it, causing its chaingun to jam. He and Marcus continued running until they were well into the Coalition lines. Marcus dropped his meat shield, of which was almost torn in half by the bullets. They moved over to a few troops who were firing at the Locust ahead. Colonel Hoffman was talking on a radio that was strapped to a soldiers back.

"Damn it Sargeant keep firing! Hold you're position!" Hoffman shouted, turning around and noticing them.

"Thanks for the help." Marcus said, wiping some blood off his face.

Hoffman scowled at Marcus, they obviously had history.

"Fenix, I wan't you and Private Jerrold to lead the push against these bastards. Get up there now!" Hoffman shouted as an explosion killed a Cog soldier nearby.

Vince and Marcus quickly ran over to the frontline, keeping thier head's low as they passed countless Cog soldiers. They eventually reached their target. All the soldiers around them knew what to do.

"Charge!" Hoffman yelled over the ear piece. Every Cog soldier Vince could see suddenly jumped up and over the cover around them. All started yelling and firing at the Locust Horde ahead. Vince jumped up, Marcus had already gone off in the crowd.

    ...

Damon Baird threw his frag grenade over his cover, sending it to the feet of a drone. He looked over as it exploded into a million pieces, he smiled.

"Eat that you bastard!" He screamed, looking over at the man sitting next to him, who smiled.

Baird looked around, everybody was charging at the Locust frontline.

He thought for a moment, as he usually did. His thinking usually saved him in situations like this, but he realised he just had to follow the crowd.

"Lets do this!" He shouted, jumping over the large piece of rock he had taken refuge behind when the Coalition reinforcements hda arrived.

All Baird had been told was they were finally punching back at the Locust, it suited him just fine.

He contiued running and firing, passing several dead bodies on the ground. He suddenly came face to face with a Locust drone, who slammed its hammerbust into Baird's chest, causing him to fall over. He lay on the ground looking up at the beast, his Lancer was still in his hand. He pulled down on the trigger madly, sending bullets flying into the drones chest, causing it to fall down backwards dead. Baird let off a small chuckle as he stood up and moved deeper into the fray.

    ...

Vince slammed his boot down on the head of a Locust, causing its head to explode under the weight.

He turned around to find another Locust trying to punch him. He fired into the beast face and kicked it over, another appeared in its place, firing madly in Vince's direction. He revved his chainsaw beyonet and sent it down through the beast body, causing it to drop in three different pieces.

He turned to see three more Locust firing at him. He pulled out a frag grenaid and swung it at them, causing all three to explode.

A bullet slammed into Vince's leg, causing him to drop onto one knee. He swung around into a seating position and fired at the Locust who had shot him, eventually killing it. Another shot slammed into his arm, causing him to yell out in pain. He fired at the second Locust who shot him, also killing it.

He looked to his right to find another Locust advancing, who was gunned down by Marcus, who had appeared nearby.

He felt a sharp pain as a bullet slammed into his shoulder, causing him to recoil back and roll a little.

Vince suddenly felt grief strike him. A large black figure was moving toward him from his left.

"You've got to be kidding me..." Vince whispered to himself.

He turned to Marcus, who was shouting something at him. Vince couldn't hear him. All he could hear was his heart beating at the footsteps of the massive Locust approaching. He tried to run but simply fell over onto his stomach.

The Locust General moved over to Vince and picked him up, throwing him into the rock nearby. Vince looked over at Marcus, who was being overwhelmed by drones.

Vince had no hope... he slowly closed his eyes and waited for someone, anyone, to help him.

Chapter 14 - Heat of Battle

    Part 1

Marcus sent his chainsaw blazing down into the drone ahead of him, the teeth carved into the flesh, causing blood to pour out from all directions. He pushed down on the chainsaw, causing it to saw it's way through bone and flesh alike until it came out of the drone's thigh, causing the deceased Locust to fall down to the ground in at least two pieces.

Marcus turned, a fist slammed into his face and sent him sprawling to the floor. He picked himself up slowly, only to be pushed back down by a boot. The Locust above him raised its large leg above his face, Marcus grabbed it and twisted, causing the drone to helplessly fall over backwards, he then rose to his feet and jumped onto the drone’s body, sending fist after fist into its jaw until it snapped, causing the drone to become silent and deathly still.

Marcus rose once again, flipping his pistol out of it’s holster as another Locust took a swing at him, Marcus simply slammed the back of the handle into the drone’s nose, sending it to the ground howling in agony. Another approached, attempting to hit Marcus with it’s Hammerburst, he simply fired two shots at the beast as it drew closer, both shots slammed into it’s chest, right into its heart causing it too to fall down dead.

Marcus heard a yell for help, he quickly turned around to see a Locust General approaching Vince’s body, of which was limp up against the rocks nearby. Marcus reacted instantly, he called out for Vince to hold on and fired a pistol shot into a nearby Locust, the bullet whizzed right into its skull, killing it instantly. Another drone approached, slamming its fist into Marcus’s thick chest plate, causing its fist to crumble at the force, Marcus swung his left hand at the drone, the fist connected with the beast’s jaw, causing it’s teeth to shatter and fly out in a mix of blood and saliva, the drone dropped to the floor unconscious.

Three more drone’s advanced upon Marcus, all had holstered their weapons at the chance of a possible fistfight. Marcus pushed along, only to feel a fist slam into the back of his head, causing him to stumble forward. As he fell to the floor he grabbed the large Gnasher shotgun on his back, he pulled it up as he rolled over on the floor and fired, sending the shot right into a drone’s chest, causing it to split in two. The second made the same mistake, it lunged at Marcus, only to have a shotgun shell tear through it’s lower body, causing it’s legs to explode with a loud crack, sending a bath of blood over Marcus. He stood up, looking into the last drone’s eyes as it swung for him, he ducked under the fist and grabbed the drone’s head, he twisted with all his strength, creating a loud cracking sound as it’s neck was snapped. He dropped the drone to the ground and turned around to find Vince being dragged by the Large General. Marcus paused for a moment, assessing the situation in his mind.

Suddenly, a massive explosion erupted nearby, followed by countless screams of Coalition troops. Marcus turned, knowing what was behind him. A Brumak stood tall, firing missiles and chaingun’s at the unlucky Coalition troops below.

Marcus got a fright as his earpiece activated, revealing Hoffman’s voice.

“Fenix! Continue moving! The tanks will take that bastard out!”

Marcus replied with a yes sir, as usual.

He turned around once again to reveal Vince and the General moving off into the distance. Marcus pulled up a Lancer out of one of the dead drone’s hands and activated it, slamming another clip in.

At least ten more Drone’s had appeared behind the General, firing in all directions as it moved up the slope toward the top of the caverns. Marcus smiled.

    “Lets rock."

    (Part 2)

Dom slammed his palm into the bottom of the clip that was sticking out of his Lancer, the gun clicked as it accepted the ammo. He pulled it up over the rock ahead of him and fired, spraying bullets into the Theron Guard giving orders to drone’s nearby. The beast fell down quickly, withering in pain as it died.

Dom looked to his left at the body’s littering the cavern. All the fighting had been pushed back by the Locust, at this time it seemed they were loosing.

Dom smiled as he took down another Locust with the last of his clip, the gun clicked three times, he sighed. He had no ammo left.

He quickly rolled to his left, taking cover behind another rock. There was a Lancer just out of reach from his position. He reached for it, keeping his head as low as possible. He touched the end of it with the tip of his fingers, only to have them crushed by a large boot. He yelled out in pain and looked up, the large Locust above him aimed down the barrel of its Hammerburst and grinned. Suddenly, it’s head exploded in a blink of an eye, causing it’s body to tumble over Dom and land on the cold, hard rocks. Dom looked to his left, a man he recognized immediately was standing there, longshot in hand. He smiled and gave Baird the thumbs up. Dom picked up the Lancer and checked it was loaded, a full clip was inside. Not a single shot had been fired. He looked back at Baird, who was leaning over his cover and firing at the incoming Locust, they were making another charge.

“Incoming!” Dom heard a Coalition troop shout as he took cover beside him. Dom placed his Lancer above his head and fired blindly, using only a quarter of the clip before pushing himself up and looking over, Lancer in hand.

He fired at a Locust that was attempting to kill a Cog nearby, killing it in the nick of time. Another approached from the right, firing it’s Hammerburst wildly at Baird, he fired another five bullets, all hit the target, bringing it down to it’s knees instantly, a bullet slammed into it’s skull as it attempted to crawl away, causing it’s body to become still. Dom took one last glance at the carnage ahead of him, the advancing Locust had all been killed except a few pinned down behind some cover.

He glanced to his left again, about ten to fifteen Locust were taking defensive position’s on a ledge leading toward the upper caverns, a large Locust General was moving up the slope, drone’s following. Dom could just make out a figure being dragged behind… he instantly jumped up as he realized who it was. He sprinted as fast as he could, leaving the fray behind him as he entered the large, dead field ahead of him. The sight of all the bodies around, Coalition and Locust, was sickening. He didn’t want another friend dying because of these damn creatures… he was going to save Vince.

    Or die trying.

Marcus fired frantically, hitting one of the twelve drone’s on the slope, causing it to roll down helplessly. All fire was on him now, the rest of the drones knew he was there and were giving it all they had, trying to buy the General some time.

Marcus rolled forward; reloading his weapon as he rose up again, he was outnumbered ten to one… even odds.

He fired into one of the drones chest, sending at least ten bullets whizzing into it’s organs, killing it before it hit the ground. Two advanced at him, both swinging their weapons madly, one slammed into Marcus’ chin, causing him to stumble backwards onto the ground, one of them lunged at him, only to be kicked in the chest, sending it falling backwards into the other.

Marcus stood up once again, hearing a click of a pistol next to his ear. No ammo. He swung his fist left, slamming it into the drone beside him, it connected with the side of it’s face, causing it to fall left to the floor. He pushed it onto it’s back and slammed his foot onto it’s head, causing it’s jaw and neck to snap under the weight.

He turned once again to find another drone staring at him, it gripped his head and slammed it’s fist into his head, causing Marcus to recoil backwards. The Locust advanced again, raising its fist high above Marcus. A bullet suddenly slammed into the back of the drones head, causing it to fall right over Marcus, blood pouring out of the back of its head like a fountain.

Marcus looked in the direction the bullet had come from in shock, Dom was standing there, one of his arms was still in bandages.

“Thanks.” Marcus said to Dom as they killed the remaining Locust drones, clearing the path above.

“They’ve got Vince.” Marcus said in a low voice, Dom nodded.

    “I know.”

    (Part 3 coming).
