    Map - Deathmatch (PC/PS3) DM-The Edge [UPDATE V1.2]

    Name: DM-The Edge
    Version:1.2
    Compatibility:UT3 V1.2

    Description:A remake of the most popular Quake 2 DM map, Q2DM1 "The Edge". Medium size map set in a strogg idustrial complex.

    Credits:myself, EPIC and Id for the original map design

    UPDATE V1.2

    -Tweaked bot paths. Now bots won't get stuck on any of the stairs.

    UPDATE V1.1

    -Tweaked bot paths, now they don't get stuck on the boxes trying to get to the armor vest, and now they actually go for the sniper rifle
    -In the megahealth room you'll find jump boots under the stairs.
    -moved around some of the spawn points
    -Replaced the stinger in the sewer and the one on the box with enforcer pickups
    -Replaced one of the flack pickups with a stinger and the other one with a shock rifle. So now there's only one flack pickup, the one outside.

    seetruw walls everywhere

    anyone got this too?
    maybe u was a bit to entusiastic bout rls.

    also:
    everywhere just flaks plz make more ut like weapon placement.
    to many spawns directly around the lift.
    ther need to be at least 2 jumpboots to provide that ol rocketjump feel.
    & maybe bring a 2nd way to get to mega health.

    hope u fix gameplay? it gots soooooo mutch potencial!

    Which platform are you using? Is the second screenshot a framerate issue on your machine or something that happens in-map? I've seen a similar prismatic effect on DM-Meditation by [TDC] Destroyer, I think it was - he managed to fix it though. Haven't yet had the chance to upload to my PS3 & try this out ...

    I always test before release, it works and looks fine for me. I wouldn't of released it with such glaring obvious bugs as invisible walls if it didn't work fine for me first...

    As for the weapons and spawn points I'll see what I can do. I don't think I'll be adding jump boots, you can reach the megahealth just fine with the hammer jump.

    on my 2nd loude of the edge, all fine.
    looks like ut3 version 1.2 or my nvidea drivers r buged not ur map.

    Looks incredible bud, I'll check this one out for sure! Eventually we will have most of the Quake maps remade, lol!

    OK, good to see it's working fine. I've played Q2 only with friends in lan never online, and I've only ever used rocket jumps to get to unaccessible spots like the mega health, but anyway I've done some changes...

    -In the megahealth room you'll find jump boots under the stairs.
    -moved arround some of the spawn points
    -Replaced the stinger in the sewer and the one on the box with enforcer pickups
    -Replaced one of the flack pickups with a stinger and the other one with a shock rifle. So now there's only one flack pickup, the one outside.
    Tested it and these changes do make it more fun, I'll upload the changed version as soon as I can.

    i would leave the stinger in the sewers + even place a sniper rifle in the ouside arena neer the vails, its sooooo empty ther

    A really great map, i remember playing this so much Saw a tournament on the television yesterday where they were playing the q4 version of this map
    Vertical - Member of Elevate Gaming & Arts.
    Playing in the UT3 and World of Warcraft squad, and making movies for the arts team.

    Well the structure is great and very close to the original and map design is awesome. But i would like to take it from the competitive side of view.And to my mind q4 version of this map would be more benefitial if we take gameplay into account:
    Now getting the sniper riffle is a long way to go and quite dangerous,but u actually need only shock rifle to dominate outside area so the only reason to go there is 30a,which is btw shouldnt be doubled in a good tdm map,replacing one of 30a with helmet would be a good idea. Also there is no need in inforcer on the box at all,imho it is better to leave this place clean like in q4 and q3osp version.
    The other suggestion is to replace enforcer in the lower corridor with flack.there is nothing wrong about it,but the enforcer pickup itsself seems a bit weird,never seen it in any tourney map.Also due to the weapon balanse 2stingers are too much,it is better to have even 3 flacks rather 2stingerss because of minigun *****in,on the other hand if we replace stinger in the centre with a flack it would be too close to another one,a bit lower, which is not very good..so it is deginately smth to think about,could be some variants like removing that lower flack pickup leaving this area empty like in ospq3 ver. or maybe replacing the the other stinger pickup(under stairs) by linkgun
    And the last thing to mention is boots. it doesnt make much sense,but it seems there is no need in them cause u can get to megahealth from the boxes or hummer jump and removing them keeps map closer to the original.
    Would like to hear some other oppinions of making ideal weapon balanse on this great map.

    Quality as always, Remus Can't remember the Quake II version, but this is excellent. Layout makes for fast & fluid gameplay, attention to detail & visuals are superb.

    Definitely a keeper, and as ever thanks for taking the time to cook for PS3. Have a fully-deserved five stars from me

    This map has to be one of the most enjoyable I've played in UT3. It's simply a classic, well worth the download!

    A small update that fixes the bot pathing once and for all. Now the bots won't get stuck on the stairs anymore.

    You wanna know what so funny about this from my perspective:

    I did not play Quake II "in it's time". I purchased Quake4 on Xbox 360, and it was okay.

    Well THIS VERY WEEKEND that just passed, my buddy and I whipped out the bonus disc for Quake 4, which has a port of Quake 2 on it. (Where are my achivements RAWR... DIE MAKRON!)

    We played the game co-op, and beat it like 2 days ago for the first time ever. Then we went into mulitplayer, and kept playing "The Edge".

    Then I see this thread...LOL...AmAZING. I'm not a huge fan of UT3 and it's gameplay, but I would'nt mind giving this map a go. I was even considering doing a UT2004 version, even before I saw this thread.

    Those dang pillars made it into UT3..>ARRGGG

    this is my favourite map of all time! brilliant conversion.

    found a few issues with bots though on V1.2 of the map when playing back a few demos.

    1) Bot travelling through the underwater tube to get the sniper rifle got stuck for a long time under the sniper rifle area at the end of the tube.

    2) Frequently bots in the main circular arena trying to walk up the stairs towards the 2 health (near the flak) seem to fall off and have to walk up repeatedly.

    These are minor issues but maybe something for 1.3?

    This map is a classic, still one of my favourites. If you were ever a fan of Quake II multiplayer you need to check this one out. Download links are still good even though it's been here ages too!
