    Default UT2003 Style Mutator Pack

    Here's a video description of the mod:

    And here's a description in text:

    This is a mutator pack that brings some largely-missed elements from Unreal Tournament 2003 to UT2004. There are currently 8 mutators in this pack:

    1. Shock Core Display Fix: Changes the appearance of the Shock Cores. You can see the difference here:
    UT2004 without the fix - UT2004 with the fix:

    2. UT2003 Weapons: Adds the functionality, meshes and sounds of UT2003 weapons. Description of each:
    All of the weapons have been changed in one way or another to closely resemble their UT2003 counterparts. All the pickups now also have the UT2003 spawn effect, and all the weapons fade out with a combined UT2003 and UT2004 effect. Here are the actual changes made to the weapons:
    1. Translocator - Changed the meshes, the beacon also has a new mesh, and the maximum number of translocator charges has been decreased to 5.
    2. Shield Gun - Changed the alt fire sound, it also uses less charges when you use it initially, allowing you to use it longer.
    3. Assault Rifle - Changed the meshes, now it shares ammunition with the Minigun, and the maximum grenade amount has been decreased to eight. The alt fire sound has been changed as well.
    4. Bio Rifle - Changed the switch and fire sounds, the damage has been increased, and the alt fire now travels further.
    5. Shock Rifle - Changed the meshes, firing sounds. Now it seems to resemble a Laser Rifle.
    6. Link Gun - The Link Gun Projectile has been kept from the deleted mutator, the sounds have been changed, the meshes were changed, the maximum ammo has decreased to half, but the primary fire no longer uses 2 shots and the alt fire drains ammo slower as well. Generally you just get more ammo from pickups and can use it longer.
    7. Flak Cannon - Fire sounds were changed, the fire rate has increased a bit, the maximum ammo has been doubled.
    8. Rocket Launcher - Fire sounds were changed, it is now harder to lock on opponents.
    9. Lightning Gun - Fire sound was changed, the rate of fire has been decreased, the Classic Sniper Rifles are all replaced with Lightning Guns.
    10. Super Shock Rifle - Changed fire sounds and the mesh.
    Here are a few screenshots:

    3. SuperJump Combo: Adds a SuperJump Adrenaline combo that lets you jump higher and gives more air control. It compensates the lack of Jump Boots in UT2003/UT2004. This is how far you can jump with it (and the thrust effect):

    4. Instagib: The Instagib mutator that uses UT2003 Super Shock Rifle and translocator.

    5. Zoom Instagib: Same, but with zoom.

    6. Winner Taunts: Bots who are victorious will do a victory dance or a taunt.

    7. Extra Functionality: Adds UT2003 spawn, teleport effects and sounds, death phrases ("Nice!") and UT2003 ragdoll sounds.

    8. Extra Announcements: Adds additional announcements when using the UT2003 Full announcer, such as "Averted!", "Squeeze Play!" and "Blue Pass Completed!"

    Known bugs:
    - The thrust effect of Super Jump lasts for 30 seconds regardless if you take more adrenaline.
    - Online, the ragdoll sounds are not applied, and the death phrases become those of juggernauts only.
    - The pack could also contain a mutator for extra fast weapon switching and Alternate HUDs.

    Changelog from RC1:
    [RC2.0] + Added the UT2003 Full announcer to the pack, which uses a lot more announcements than the original.
    [RC2.0] + Added the [UT2003 Style] Extra Functionality mutator that enables death phrases, UT2003 teleportation effects and sounds as well as UT2003 ragdoll sounds.
    [RC2.0] + Added the [UT2003 Style] Extra Announcements mutator that adds hooks for some extra announcements for use in Double Domination and Bombing Run.
    [RC2.0] ! The Redeemer guided missile now uses the UT2003 HUD (oval) instead of the UT2004 one.
    [RC2.0] * Double Damage now uses correct UT2003 sounds when nearly exhausted.
    [RC2.0] ! Small shields now stack.
    [RC2.0] * The Bio Rifle alt fire now travels as far as the primary fire, regardless of blob size.
    [RC2.0] * The instagib mutators now properly use the UT2003 translocator.
    [RC2.0] # Reverted the sounds of the Onslaught weapons, as they were not fitting.
    [RC2.0] ! The UT2003 weapons now use UT2003 icons (white outlines).
    [RC2.0] * The Winner Taunts mutator now uses a lot more reliable way of playing the taunts.
    [RC2.0] * Removed overlooked log statements to keep the logs clean.
    [RC2.0] * The Link Gun alternate fire now animates properly.
    [RC2.0] & Performed online tests, and the mod is now network-ready.
    [RC2.0] * Cleaned up and updated the readme.

    ------------
    REQUIREMENTS
    ------------

    Unreal Tournament 2004.

    ------------
    INSTALLATION
    ------------

    Unzip this package and the folders in their respective folders in your UT2004 directory. For example, System contents go to UT2004/System. Confirm overwrite of files when asked.
    Additionally, open your User.ini file, and under the heading [GUI2K4.UT2K4ServerLoading] add these lines:

    Backgrounds=LadderShots.BRMoneyShot
    Backgrounds=LadderShots.CTFMoneyShot
    Backgrounds=LadderShots.DOMMoneyShot
    Backgrounds=LadderShots.TeamDMMoneyShot
    Backgrounds=LadderShots.BRShot
    Backgrounds=LadderShots.CTFShot
    Backgrounds=LadderShots.DOMShot
    Backgrounds=LadderShots.TeamDMShot
    Backgrounds=LadderShots.ChampionshipShot

    Backgrounds=UT2003Interface.Backgrounds.bg02
    Backgrounds=UT2003Interface.Backgrounds.bg03

    Backgrounds=UT2003Interface.Backgrounds.bg08
    Backgrounds=UT2003Interface.Backgrounds.bg09
    Backgrounds=UT2003Interface.Backgrounds.bg10
    Backgrounds=UT2003Interface.Backgrounds.bg11

    Then change one of the Backgrounds=2k4Menus.Loading.loadingscreen2 to Backgrounds=2k4Menus.Loading.loadingscreen3 to fix a typo that didn't allow you to see the XAN starting screen.

    To get the original UT2003 HUD, download and install Alternate HUDs from https://dl.dropbox.com/u/9834076/Alt...Ds-beta1.4.zip or another mirror. Use the "Alternate HUDs" mutator, not the "UT2003 HUD" mutator, as the latter is not true to the original.

    -----------
    DESCRIPTION
    -----------

    Currently has eight mutators.
    [UT2003 Style] Shock Core display fix mutator makes the Shock Core look like the ones in UT2003 and UC, just with the proper UT2004 scale (instead of the fat default Shock Core model). Works as a server package, too.
    [UT2003 Style] UT2003 Weapons replaces all the weapons in UT2004 with their UT2003 counterparts. The main changes are in sound and functionality. See the Weapons section for more details.
    [UT2003 Style] SuperJump Combo adds the Unreal Tournament 2003 Beta SuperJump adrenaline combo that is the adrenaline equivalent of the Jump Boots.
    [UT2003 Style] Winner Taunts makes bots play a taunting animation at the end of a round if they have won.
    [UT2003 Style] InstaGib and [UT2003 Style] Zoom InstaGib are Intagib mutators that use the UT2003 super shock rifles and translocators.
    [UT2003 Style] Extra Announcements adds additional announcements (like "Blue pass completed!" and "Averted!") when using the UT2003 Full announcer.
    [UT2003 Style] Extra Functionality adds certain elements from UT2003 that are not dependent on the weapons, such as the UT2003 spawning and translocation effects, death phrases and UT2003 ragdoll impact sounds.

    In addition, the pack includes an announcer, "UT2003 Full", which uses more of the announcements. These additional announcements were in the game already, just unused up to this point.
    Also, the included xplayersL1.upl file unlocks UT2003 bots (with a larger variety of names). There are also extra backgrounds included to be used as additional loading screens; see the installation section about how to install them.

    Tried playing UT2003 again today. Must say, what were Epic thinking when they made UT2004! There are lots of more things to be ported over. First, most sounds, like Shock Rifle primary (very nice laser-like sound). Then, spawn effect - red and yellow particle burst, very nice looking. Also, too bad there isn't a game speed setting in UT2004, it's controlled via a mutator Then also bot names: where did Misery, Molotov, Charisma, Hydra, Janus etc. go?

    Hmm, possibly I'll return to it once I'm done with UT3 sounds. It's quite the same actually, UT2003 needs mainly sounds too

    It's a lot worse than UT2004's IMO. So therefore I won't bother with it.

    No, read the comment. That's an old version. Filefront just won't let me change the "submitted" files. Now I'll know that and won't submit Betas...

    I managed to get the UT2k3's shock rifle sounds. The UT2k3's shock rifle feels and sounds more like a laser rifle, while in UT2k4 where it sounded a bit weaker.

    The extra bot names can be found in XPlayersL1.upl, but they do not show up because their BotUse vaule is 0. However, they can be found when at the roster screen in the Single Player mode.
    The UT2k3 characters--found in the XplayersL1.upl--have their BotUse vaule of 1. The UT2k4 characters--found in XplayersL2--have the vaule of 3. That why you are seeing more UT2k4 bots than UT2k3.

    I prefer UT2k3's hud, although I made the UT2k3 hud use a different font.

    That sucked.
    Shorter alias: DCI (in case typing DougC-Icarus is too long )

    :O You're right! Have to make a hax for that
    Hey, that's a good thing to include in the pack, and maybe especially the UT4MOD version which I'll make, as it can modify instead of overwriting files.

    Added a poll. Here's a description:

    The usual way of doing things like that is to replace items. That way, it works online just as well as offline. Yet it also has some negative effects. The biggest negative effect is that it conflicts with other replacement mutators - you can't add, say, mutators for Unreal II and UT3 weapons in the same match. Yet not all things are changed in this pack, so obviously you might want to use, say, the Shock Core display fix and another pack of weapons which you like, together.
    The problem with this is that it doesn't work online. So therefore they have to use the replacement way. And when you think of it, they probably won't use two conflicting mutators. So naturally making 2 mutators - one for servers, one for clients, would make it very nice.

    But on the other hand, that's twice the work. And maybe people won't even use the other functions of client side mutators. So here's what I think about the different kinds of mutators:

    UT2003 weapon sounds (replace method): It's the simplest, easiest method of getting UT2003 weapon sounds to UT2004. And it works both online and offline. Downside: can't be used with other weapon replacement mutators. However, look at the "UT2003 weapon sounds + respawn effect (replace method)" option before voting, as it's even better IMO.

    UT2003 weapon sounds - Client (setting change method): This doesn't replace weapons, but instead changes their properties, so it doesn't conflict and can be used with other weapon/ammo replacement mutators. Downside: doesn't work offline, and usually other weapon replacement mutators replace all the weapons so it wouldn't have any effect anyway. However, there are mutators that replace a single weapon, and then you could use that and this mutator without any problems: have the changed weapon and all other weapons sound like UT2003. Another downside is that it can't do any code changes, only property changes, therefore it can't add the UT2003 spawn effect. Considering that and that it would be double the work, I won't vote for it myself.

    UT2003 Shock Core Fix - Client: This is what you have currently. It can always be on, and won't conflict with anything, yet doesn't work online. As it's flexible and doesn't cause any trouble, I'll vote to keep it. Servers will have to use the replacement method.

    UT2003 weapon sounds + respawn effect (replace method): this is the particle burst you see in UT2003 and also the weapon sounds in one comfortable mutator. This is the primary choice, as it works both offline and online, and does everything it can to get the UT2003 style. Downside: not compatible with other weapon replacement mutators. Note that by using "UT2003 weapon sounds - Client (setting change method)" with "UT2003 respawn effect" you would get the same result offline; however, not online. Therefore I vote for it.

    UT2003 respawn effect: this is only the particle burst you see in UT2003. It can only be achieved by changing the code, so it can't be without conflicting. However, it involves a load of replaces - basically all the weapons and ammo - and it's more than double the work if you choose both respawn effect and weapon sounds + respawn effect. And the "UT2003 weapon sounds + respawn effect (replace method)" delivers the full UT2003 feel. That's why I don't vote for this.

    UT2003 Shock Core Fix (replace method): a standalone mutator for replacing ugly shock cores with the good looking ones on servers. There's no use of it offline, as the Client does the job a lot better. This conflicts with other weapon replacement mutators, so vote for this if you don't use any weapon replacement mods yet you wish to fix the Shock Core display on your server. EDIT: Oops, forgot to add it to the poll, just reply to vote

    So, vote for whatever mutators you wish to see here. And the Super Jump mutator will be in any way as it doesn't conflict with anything. Plus I'll add an option to unlock the bot names and maybe make bots do random animations when they're on display if I figure out how. The Link Projectile will be merged with weapon sounds, and will be a selectable option there.

    UT2003 style sounds - Resource package only (.uax)
    UT2003 emitters - Emitters code file only (.u)

    Nope, as you already have both those on your UT2004. I won't add any new sounds or emitters, I'll just restore the old ones.

    Well, that's what I figured, since it wouldn't make a heck of a lot of sense for Epic to remove content from UT2003 for UT2004 (the only things that I can think of that might be legitimately unavailable in UT2004 are the 3rd person UT2003 Assault Rifle and the UT2003 3rd person Translocator).

    Do you want to point out which sounds the UT2003 Shock Rifle used and what emitters in particular were used in UT2003? I don't really have a lot of interest in using anything specifically for UT2003, but I'd like to know out of curiousity.

    I did find the 3rd person UT2003 Assault Rifle and the Translocator in the weapons.ukx. Unreal Editor does not load the unused meshes from that mesh package. (I guess everybody knows that.)

    Problem is that sounds (such as the UT2003's grenade launch, shock rifle sounds, etc.) are not in UT2004 since they are replaced. I have the UT2003 sound package, though.
    Shorter alias: DCI (in case typing DougC-Icarus is too long )

    Yes, a few emitters might be not in UT2004, but all I'll need to do is a bit of copy-paste work.
    The sounds of UT2003 are in WeaponSounds. Interestingly, all weapons also have a reload sound - so it seems it was originally planned to be something like Unreal II.

    Not all are replaced. Some were moved to NewWeaponSounds/NewPickupSounds. But I'll extract/reimport any that is missing.

    I'd like the ut2003 styled stuff if possible, just to see what the differences were. I remember the minigun primary being totally different, and also a Quake3 style respawn sound.

    Then that's the last option
    Yeap, the minigun sounds were different, and it hit less (6-7 instead of 7-8 dmg), but had more ammo.

    OK, so it seems I'll do just as I've planned: leave the Shock Core Fix and create a UT2003 weapons package.

    So far good progress: already recreated the Shock Rifle and the Link Gun with sounds, properties, models and respawn/despawn animations. You can see the shiny old respawn animation here:

    As for the weapon despawn/fade out animation, I've changed it not to the original UT2003 animation (that is identical to UT3's), but instead just made the weapons spin while fading out. That resulted in a very sweet looking animation, but you can't screenshot it (as it's an animation ).

    Completed the Bio Rifle. It now deals more damage and flies further Of course, not to mention the sounds. I also used the unused switch sound there, wonder why they never actually used that sound...

    WeaponSounds.BioRifle.SwitchToBioRifle. Just don't forget to load the whole package first.

    And updates: completed the Minigun (should have a lockdown effect now, but less powerful! + sounds, of course) and the Assault Rifle (old mesh, and it is now really as big as a pistol). Only Flak, Rocket Launcher, Sniper Rifle, Shieldgun and Translocator left.

    Flak Cannon complete. I didn't add the increased arc of the flak shell, as it's slight and saves me a lot of work.
    So only Rocket Launcher, Sniper Rifle, Shieldgun and Translocator left from the weapons. But to get the old flashy respawn effect I'll have to replace all the pickups. But that only includes adding three lines of code to each.

    Yes. Its meshes are in Weapons.ukx, identical to UT2003's. So therefore all the values from UT2003 source will fit. And as UT2004 has such a good way of giving you an option to select between models, I'll leave the new model in just in case anyone likes it more And by default bUseOldMesh=True.

    Completed the Rocket Launcher, Lightning Gun, Shield Gun (the alt fire still costs 5 initially, as if it was 0 it would be unfair) and Translocator. Still need to do the Super Shock Rifle, the three Onslaught weapons (spawn effect only) and all pickups.

    Here's a picture of the Translocator in action:

    Changed the sounds of the Onslaught weapons to some of the unused ones. Finished the Super Shock Rifle.
    Two Painters, Redeemer and InstaGib mutators to go.

    Completed all the weapons. Only mutators left to do... But that includes making the Zoom Super Shock Rifle though.

    Probably this week. Readmes also take time, and the item replacement mutator sometimes malfunctions...

    Basically done. Only needs some bug fixing and readme.
    Yet this will still be a beta, Beta 4, as I'm still planning to add some more things: species, bots playing the taunt animation once they're on display etc.

    No, like I've said, I still need to debug and write a readme. Probably will be released this weekend.

    Yea, I know about Instagib, looked into it but it doesn't add translocator, just sets the Uses Translocator setting to True... Could fix this with adding a replacement mutator inside my Instagib code, but that's some work. Will be queued for the RC release.
    How come the same? The sound should be changed.

    Also, monitor your log for warnings and report if there are any, I really like clean logs

    FireSound=Sound'UT2003Weapons.ShockRifle.ShockRifl eAltFire'
    It's different. And should be different. No idea why you don't hear it.

    And cool, you managed to get P to nothing? Hah! Could make a check like that though.

    Aah. Well, I don't think so, which texture could be changed?

    Hmm, is it possible to just mutate the translocator into the ut2003 one?

    Something like:

    PostBeginPlay:

    Translocator(Other).default.FireClass=newfireclass

    That's not exact syntax of course. But that is a cheap way of doing it for your instagib mutators.

    Exactly cheap. That means it won't work online. But like I've said, I could just add a weapon replacement mutator inside this InstaGib mutator that replaces the Translocator.

    Update! It's now a Release Candidate 1. This update was actually just a fair bit of bug fixes, almost no radical changes at all. Here's the changelog:

    [RC1.0] * Fixed weapons replacing unknown weapons with Link Guns.
    [RC1.0] * Mine layer weapon pickups now give Mine layers instead of AVRiLs.
    [RC1.0] * Minigun and Assault Rifle now really shares ammo between them.
    [RC1.0] * When UT2003 Weapons and Shock Core Fix mutators are used together, Shock Cores no longer float.
    [RC1.0] * Translocator beacon now has the right team trail.
    [RC1.0] * Blue team Translocator now has the right glass texture.
    [RC1.0] ! The package name has been changed to UT2003Style so it would resemble the package better.

    New link: http://files.filefront.com/13386568

    I'll host an UMOD version soon. Enjoy!

    Filefront continues to hate me, it seems. Ah well, MediaFire is better anyways:

    I've managed to reintegrate the announcements from the UT2003 (Large Ham ) announcer, such as "Blue team interception", "Red team is destroying the opposition", "That was one brutal match" etc. Also restored his epic "M-M-M-MONSTER KILL kill kill kill"

    The additional announcements are not perfectly integrated since they are dependent on the gametype and other things, but still provide a lot of amusement. Say goodbye to the annoying "Blue fumbled, red team on offence" in Bombing Run

    Too bad that I won't be able to reintegrate "Averted" into the game, since I'd have to create a new BR gametype for that. They failed at programming it :\
