    Map - Deathmatch (PC) DM-Orbital Decay (PC version 3 Now Available!)

    "The Liandri experiment has failed! Aboard a deep space research station in a remote star system bordering the outer region of their empire they constructed a highly advanced power core powered by a singularity. Originally more than a complete success, the radiating energy from the core mutated bacteria trapped within the rocky structure of the station into simple plant life spreading throughout the station interior. Realizing the potential the Liandri built a large scale version on a nearby planet hoping to begin terraforming experiments on a mass scale. The experiment ended in catastrophic failure...The singularity breached containment. Feeding off the planets matter it evolved into a black hole eating all matter within its grasp. With the prototype generator still operating within the research station, rival races have sent their best agents to secure the generator schematics buried deep within the computer systems before they are lost forever to the black holes gravity well...."

    NOTES:

    Version 3: Runs as quick as the original 'Lite' version but is mostly unchanged from the original! Lighting has had a major overhaul in version 3! See readme for additional notes!

    Regarding forcefields - Orange blocks everything, green blocks players and blue blocks weapons.

    Lifts - When riding lifts just face towards the part that doesn't have the rail and once it stops you'll be able to walk right off! eg..face the part you walked onto the lift from!

    In the first 5 minutes there are 5 impacts to the structure. First one is about 40seconds in. If you stand in the lower 'orange field' corridor and look towards the 'rocket room' you should see the tunnel get a bit disjointed. Two others impact the side (between 2-4mins into the match) and two land on the surface for extra hiding space. If you see smoke and a impact sound come out of nowhere then it just happened.

    Not to complain, but this is "full releases", right? I mean, the maps here should be done, tested and ready, not "it will be fixed in the next version".

    The map was finalized and uploaded at work on a very slow PC which was choppy as all hell. Before that it was fully tested to make sure everything was in order like no glaringly obvious floating pickup bases or walkthrough meshes etc.. (and the terrain appeared to be OK )
    I was unaware at the time that the terrain had moved. It's only a small hole but annoying none the less as it's been sitting correctly for ages now. So in all essence this is a full 'tested' release and not an untested release.

    My comment was made to moreso notify people that I'm aware of the hole and that it will be fixed in the next version and not to imply this is a untested map.
    If you've got a high end PC by all means download it as I don't intend to update it anytime soon unless a gameplay affecting issue is found.(which this isn't)

    Hopefully that clears it up for you?

    It may just be coincidence but it is strange how similar they appear. Perhaps a single mesh difference but I am not going to point any fingers - just hope people don't think its the other way around.

    Great minds think alike is my response!
    Personally I'd take it as an insult if I was accused of stealing his idea and I'd expect he would to if it was vice versa!
    I didn't know his map existed but now that I've seen the screens, it's looking pretty sweet so far.

    Well this fine level has been in development for well over a month so I know for a fact that LP didn't take anyone else's idea ... I beta tested the map over a month ago and the tube you are referring to was there. Anyway great map ... thanks alot. I'm sure you'll get a pm with a link to the PS3 version very soon. These days people just can't wait.

    Checking my PM's regarding earlier versions of this map the alfa was sent to AnubanUT2 and Gammo roughly dated 04-15-2008, 02:33 AM (copied from PM)
    Plus using the epic meshes the easiest way to make a clear tube is to use the round frame and glass. Which was familar with as I used it in my 1st map....

    Wow, this thing is pretty large (especially love the asteroid section, btw), and the fps is great, actually better than on many much smaller and less fancy maps. What a pleasant surprise... Nice job indeed!

    Cooking this for the PS3 may prove to be challenging since you are using custom shaders and materials that are not compiling. You may have to do some special work to make this is PS3 level without any visual issues.

    definitivly a fan of ur maps...pure art :the colors are nice ;the sky is beautifull and the gameplay is ...lethal

    Thanx for the positive comments!
    Yes many hours were spent creating it and many more were spent trying to optimize it. Basically I've been working on it since early Feburary.
    The level was completed over a month ago and I've been tweaking ever since. I was very happy to see the framerate was up on the final version as it was 5-10 slower on the compile the night before. .....Yes it was a lot worse.

    Once the lite version is completed i'll look into the PS3 side of things for the map.
    AnubanUT2 have you tried cooking this version of the map? If not I'll cook it for you to test sometime this weekend.

    Apart from that expect a DOM version of my first map (been wanting to do it for ages now) in a week or two then after that I'll start on my next map which will be a warfare map.

    Oh and once again my appologies to those with slower PC's who are unable to run this map. Hopefully the lite version will run OK for you.

    But I haven't had a chance to see how it looks on the PS3 yet. I will do that later this evening.

    unfortunately LP you are going to have to do some work on this if you plan on releasing it on the PS3. In its current state there are some really bad graphical errors where you don't have fallback materials for the stuff that didn't compile and so the black hole effect looks bad on the PS3 and actually causes severe visual bugs so you can't really play the level. Plus many of the blue force fields are completely absent and the effect accompanying the black hole is also not on the PS3. So I wish you luck if you have the time ... you may not atm due to the MSUC coming up and various other contests and this is not an easy fix. Have fun.

    Thanks heaps lord porksword downloading now, looks great. Sorry about the beta testing was having hassles keeping UT3 functional for a while around this stage, and busy IRL. So pleased to hear you are making a DOM map. I love this gametype and there is so little available atm.     Thanx for the heads up! Always too helpful for your own good...but it's muchly appreciated!!
    I've found that I can use a material instance on the epic force fields to make them blue rather than use custom meshes so hopefully that'll resolve the issue with them for the PS3. Spewing I didn't think of this before cuz it would have saved me a bit of time....

    The effect accompanying the black hole will be the interesting part though. I can't use the standard epic emitter as it dissapears when viewed from certian angles so it may need to be changed which would be a shame as it'd ruin the look I was after. I can minimise this by placing it in just the right spot but then it always dissapears for some little corner of the map making it look buggy....

    I'll have to finalize the 'lite' version tonight to make the buzz comp deadline and will make the changes to the fields and have a quick squidge at the emitter as well.

    After quite a late nighter....the 'lite' version is finished and uploaded into the 3DBuzz comp so I'll upload it in a day or two to filefront. The 'lite' version has a considerable amount of removed meshes, dynamic lights, more optimization, and runs between 40-100% faster in pretty much all areas.
    Hopefully this will help people with slower PC's.

    While cutting back the full version to make the lite edition I've found a few areas that can be optimized for the first revision of the full version so whenever it gets released it should run quicker. (hopefully that made sence )

    Version 1.1 is up now! It runs a bit quicker than version 1.
    The PS3 version is currently being tested to see if it works OK! Fingers crossed it's OK..and runs OK on the PS3...

    If my colour scheme is too much for your puny human brain to handle then maybe you do.

    Personally I prefer maps that saturate you in colour rather than bland lighting schemes like in real life. Hence my over the top lighting scheme. I'll being doing more like this as well so watch out!

    the first screenshot with the purple tube reminds me of bioshock for some reason. Looks very atmospheric. i like it alot.
