    Map - Deathmatch (PC/PS3) dm-revenge_of_klesk

    4. Description: This ancient temple was home to many ritualistic tournaments during what many consider “The Golden Years” of deathmatch. It was discovered and reinforced with Necris technology only recently, despite the fact that it sits amidst an ocean of toxicity. A sea of alien micro-organisms devour the carbon-dioxide, producing liquid methane which instantly vaporizes, forming hazardous clouds in an already dangerous setting. The temple’s main purpose remains a one-on-one arena to test combatants’ skills in the most brutal ways.

    5. Comments: My first map release – a remake of q3tourney3 (so it's meant for duels). Was originally making it for lan games with friends, but i figured i'd release it and see if anyone else was interested. Tried to make it simple, functional, and fast-paced. I think it should run well on lower-end systems. Depending on feedback, may cook for PS3...like i said, first released map.

    I tried this map tonight, very nasty... I get killed a lot

    Looks great and the jump pads are a lot of fun. Especially that high one through the trapdoor with the shock rifle way up there.

    Never played the q3tourney3 that it's based on, so it's all new to me.

    In making my Quake remake maplist, this was one of the little gems I unearthed that had somehow slipped through the net. Its criminal that a fantastic little map like this has had so little exposure. I guess things can just get posted on the wrong day and drift off the radar..
    Anyway, true to its roots this is a brutal fast paced duel map that induces a constant precarious feeling due to its cavernous pits and its vertigo inducing walkways and towers. There are some fantastic little touches and secret areas (see if you can find them). I really like the methane pools and the two battlements on the roof (see pics) that give you some respite after the jump from the tower and are great for shooting shock balls through. It even plays well against a Bot.
    If I had any critisism it would be that there is perhaps slightly too much vapourised methane as it obscures the beautiful architecture.. Maybe tone the green glow down to CTF Searchlight levels: http://ut3.gamersmafia.com/storage/n...hlight_ut3.jpg and make the glowing vapour in the main pit more of a realistic UE3 mist effect rather than oldschool Q3 fogging.
    Anyway, in a more fair universe this map gets played everyday on the servers by duelers and quick gibfest seekers alike.

    ps. just two questions, how do I get up to the shieldbelt, and why no sniper?

    Oh, well thanks much! To be honest, i had forgotten about releasing this map, and since then i've had my computer apart more times than i'd care to admit fixing problems and replacing components. The only reason i caught this reply is because i was going to show the stage to my friend who just got back from deployment in iraq!

    I'll have to reinstall the game and bring this map back from the grave. I'll work on a couple suggestions and maybe re-release it. I'll also have to read up a bit on your suggestions, Crayfish, because i'm not as familiar with the inner workings of this editor.

    edit: Oh sorry. Sniper, i didn't really think it fit on this map since it was meant to be really fast-paced; hence the door closing up there so you can't camp. I suppose i could add it, maybe. And the shield belt...well, you have to lunge forward off the tower and land on one of the pillars in front of it. From there, a double-jump just barely clears the first ledge.

    Now i just have to wait for the PS3 version

    Regarding the methane effect, I'd say just turn the density of the fog down and the intensity of the green glow, to the point where the architecture doesn't become a flat dark silhouete against the sky as it does now. See CTF Searchlight:

    As for the mist in the main pit, a flat 'Animated - Horizontal Fog Plane' could work perfectly (See 2/3 down on this page: http://www.hourences.com/book/tutorialsue3fog.htm )
    Actualy just checking the Q3 origonal, it uses the same effect!

    *Yours shouldn't be too opaque, for obvious reasons Then maybe have Bio underneath the layer of Fog, something like under the water on 'Deck' or the pits on KamilR's Q3Tourney5 remake:

    *EDIT: I've thought ALOT about the item placement over the last day, and edited this post several times, so I hope your reading this latest version. My current thinking is:

    You have to remember the orignal had the Rail, which doesn't even require a headshot to do its 100dmg.. UT3 duel sniping requires considerably more finesse due to dodge etc... Whatsmore there is no possibility of being able to camp on this map. Atop the tower, with your fantastic door mechanism, your never more than just out of Line of Sight while on the ledge, ie Prime sitting Shock Combo and rocket splash bait. Dude that tower was made to have the sniper in it. I'd say put the sniper in the tower and put the Shock where the secret Flack now is. This means 'the sniper tower counter'(Shock Rifle) brings you out at the opposite end of the map, setting up a great snipe vs peekaboo shock ball battle through the arches, the sniper vs shock battle would progresss to the sniper jumping down and fighting from behind those two battlements while the 'schocker' tries fire shockballs over/between them. This placement also means you can't control the shock and the sniper at the same time, you either have to go for one or the other. keeping the long range battle balanced.
    The Rocket and especaily Bio are perfect for this map, its secondary fire is great for cutting down the opponents options due to the limited passageways. But I think the placement needs changing so that you have Bio and ArmorVest at one end and Rocket at the other. As it stands you have either Rockets+Bio, or Vest with no weapon until you go for the special locations.See how it works out from play testing with some good duelers, it'd be easy to tweak or change back either way. I have some friends who are duelers who I think would help out and report back to you. Let me know

    Dude thats genius! I love how you've worked in a risk-reward element to all the new features. You just know there is gonna be some awsome mid-air frags over the fight for the shield!

    Great little map - got a chance for a quick shot of it last night. A couple of points...

    1. One side of the map has Rox & Goo, the other side only has the jump up to the shock. Kind of makes it obvious where a person spawning on the shock side has to go for a weapon

    2. I got caught a few times up in the area with the shock. Someone following you up can trigger the door, and leave you trapped inside!

    3. Was it just me, or was it next to impossible to fall down from the shock without taking some form of damage? If memory serves me well, there was a little ledge (certainly to your right), that you could jump down onto before falling, but that's just a little too calculated - people will much prefer just to drop. Should they be damaged for that??

    As I said though - good fun!

    Looking at first pics, I'd suggest to make use of desaturation, brownish necris theme doesnt work good green lights, although it might work good with desaturated environment,

    Kazimira, sometimes when that happens, I click the top of the page where it says "continue to filefront" and it goes to the right place. Other times the link is just dead (like the link from the first post). Just got it from Crayfish's link (post before your last, #15) Hope that helps!

    I hate how Filefront gives 0 info on weather a link is dead or not.

    I do think I'm going to love this map though. This was one of my favorites back in my Q3A days.

    I just wish I could save a list of maps to run on regularly. This one would be on that list I'm certain.

    damn now we need a q3dm6 remake if there hasnt been a good one done yet
    There are a number of such "hot Saturns", but HD 149026b is so far unique. It has been described as a "hell planet", being charcoal black in color and a burnt magma hue in starlight. Surface temperatures are above the boiling point of lead.

    I did a PS3 cook of this map, works great, doors open/close, etc. I am unable to get in touch with keyser325, sent him several pms, it's been almost a month and no response... If anyone knows how to get in touch with him, I am reluctant to post the PS3 cook without hearing from him. I gave it to a couple of my buddies and we all played it fine. Shock/Rocket duel concept really works out well, unless there are more people around, then you can't stay in one spot or you'll get whacked.

    Oh, sorry about that guys. I reformatted, kinda lost interest in this game. I reworked some of the map based on the suggestions but i never got around to posting it. Not home atm, but i'll post it in a few days when i'm back on my main computer after i reinstall the game. The titan pack peaked my interest again...

    Didn't really think anyone was interested, since it was my first map and it's not really up to the standards of some of the guys here... I'll get it uploaded with a new link.

    Oh and btw, you can post the ps3 version if you'd like. Doesn't matter to me, but i'll get the updated one up and running soon if you'd like to cook that one.

    This is great Keyser, the weapon placement aand everything is perfect now. The innovations you made to this map are really well thought out and play just great. Really fun. Thanks for all the aesthetic changes too, they make the level much clearer. Just one thing, the fog distance (which is a great improvement for general clarity) is perhaps set a little too far away, the area looked really cool with fog inside, like the whole place is seething in bio goo. Maybe shorten the distance and turn the density down a touch, just so there is a bit of a fog when looking from one side of the arena to the other, then it would be best of both worlds.

    I love this remake. However, my first thought on the new beta was "where has all the fog gone?" I loved it - created a great atmosphere. My second thought was "wheres the shock rifle?" I saw all this shock ammo, but never encountered the weapon. Only played it once though - I'll try again paying more attention!

    Good work - pity about the complete fog loss!

    I noticed that the name of the map is "dm-revenge_of_klesk" with lower case "dm". Our redirect will not send maps with "dm" in lower case for some reason. Can I simply change this to upper case or will that screw something up? I had the first version of this map on the server and it ran great for me because I already had the map in my local custom maps folder but others that tried to join could not download the map from the redirect. It was the only one on the redirect in lower case so I assume that was the problem.

    Thanks for the feedback, i moved onto another stage, mainly to re-familiarize myself with the editor. Another small tourney from q3mp with a couple minor tweaks, like this one.

    Not sure if it'll turn into anything or not, i'm still learning basics here anyway... I'll post here if it develops into anything substantial.

    I have had a few people ask for this, and keyser325 seems ok with it, so.... here is a working ps3 cook of it. This was done prior to the February update, but I havenn't had time to do the new version, and.... well I just plain LIKED the fog. Great map keyser! If you want me to take it down, just say the word. Cheers!

    theres allready a remake of Q3 map i believe, either way this looks great. I used to play Klesk online in Q3, if we could just get klesk for UT3 i would be in heaven
