    Default UnrealScript Studio: IDE for UnrealScript 3

    We've set up a section on our forums where we'll be posting information about the status of our upcoming UnrealScript 3 IDE.

    Note: Regarding forum rule #6: There is no commercial offering for this product. As an offering to the mod community, the IDE is developed as freeware under a strict condition that it be used for non-commercial purposes only.

    Non-members can view the forum, but you have to sign up to post in it.

    Sorry about the registration procedure (I had nothing to do with it). Here are the steps:

    Create an account
    Activate the account from the key sent to you in an email
    Log in to the portal page
    Fill out the remaining information on the Account tab and click Update
    After this, the forum link will become active
    Before you can post in the editor section, you have to send a request email to UnrealScriptEditor@pixelminegames.com. This is to keep members of the other sections of the site from coming in this subforum acting childish.

    theres no info about ut3 only a empty forum called Unreal Script Editor

    For some reason, the editor subforum got set to only allow members of some special user group to see the posts in it. I'm locked out myself right now. We're fixing it once our web dev gets here in the morning.

    I signed up and updated my account info, but don't mind me filling in bogus. There's no need for you to know those kind of details.

    Heads up for others: the password you enter there is stored in a way that it can be read again. In Account details, the password is shown in full text..

    I'm grateful that you chose to release your work as freeware but I think you might have killed your project before it started with the 'non-commercial purposes' restriction. Why limit your audience?

    I believe all software that has its sales application in a commercial industry should be free for non-commercial use. Obviously this excludes games, since they are used almost exclusively in non-commercial settings.

    If you need a forum that desperately that you're using that crappy setup, then I may be able to help you there. Heck, I bet BeyondUnreal would even like to provide your own subforum if you ask nicely.

    Awesome, will it work with MSVS 2008? Hey what font are you using in the screenshots? I think the name began with a 'c' but I can't remember the name...

    Ah I think it's the Consolas font, never got used to it so I just use courier new.

    You absolutely have to use it with True Type on or it will look ugly like in those screenshots. I took all those screenshots over remote desktop except for the Class View one, so you can see what the font really looks like with True Type on in the Class View screenshot.

    It works with VS05 std/pro, VS08 std/pro, and in standalone mode for people that don't have one of those (similar to the VS 2008 Express Editions).

    Any idea when we can get our hands on this and try it? ^^

    Also will there be a class hierarchy view like in wotgreal? That is probably my favorite feature and if its missing that would be sad.

    My favourite features of WotGreal are the class hierarchy view, being able to right click in the edit window and choose to jump to that class in the hierarchy, and pressing Ctrl-Shift-O and typing a class name to open it (with type completion).

    To my knowledge Visual Studio 2005 doesn't do any of these things on its own, I don't know about Visual Studio 2008.

    Yup I agree with you. Without those things I dont think i would ever change from Wotgreal. Although i love the verticle split view in VS. Any idea if wotgreal is able to do that? Im on a widescreen so it would be handy sometimes.

    I just run two instances of the source on two different screens, using notepad++, myself

    Notepad++ can also do the split-view.

    WOTgreal is actually free. There's like 2-3 features that you can't use without buying it, one of which doesn't work with UT3 anyway, and you have to put up with the nag screen.

    Nagging is lame. We'll never do it.

    Should be ready for some of the testers by the end of the week.

    you can't use their version for commercial game either..
    I'm all for a good IDE, used WOTGreal since I was doing the superteam keybinder in UT99/TO, and have been using it with the development of Roadkillwarriors/to-crossfire, it does have it's quircks, but there was no other good replacement IMHO.. it was the VB6 IDE for Unreal (VB6 IDE was the best (with the help of MZTools3) IDE Ever, visual studio .NET still has to get up to that level IMHO..).. The only thing I didn't like about WOTGreal was not being able to have all seperate windows (like in VB6 NON-MDI mode), I never liked MDI for development, especially with dual monitors..

    If you already have the Standard or Professional edition of either Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio 2008 installed, you don't need to follow the first step of the installation. Step 1 is a one-time install for the Visual Studio 2008 Shell, which is basically Visual Studio without support for C++, C#, etc. After you install this once, you can skip this install in the future (unless otherwise stated at that time) for any UnrealScript language updates.

    The UnrealScript language support is installed by UnrealPackageSetup-0.9.0.13840.msi, where 0.9 indicates that this release is a beta for our first full version.

    A new build (0.9.0.13937) is available now, problem with creating a project is fixed! It works fine for me now

    This is extremely promising! However, the installation aborts with the following error code:

    Installation failed with error code: (0x80070643)

    I googled the error message. Might be connected to a variety of factors, including .NET 3.5 SP1, Vista SP1 (I'm not even sure I have either of these SPs) or the fact that I have Visual C# 2008 Express installed.

    Any chance of making this work with Visual C# 2008 Express?

    Just throwing another vote in there for a commercial version. I do a lot of Unreal engine contracting and I won't use any program that isn't either free for commercial purposes or available for license.
