Character (PC) Anyway to import single mesh into UnrealEd?

All the character tutorials I found requires characters to be imported with separate meshes for each body part. I'm wondering if it's possible to import only a single mesh instead, or even combine some body parts to be imported as a single mesh (like the legs for example).

    thanks

Yah tehres some character tutorial that mentions being able to JUST import the torso section, but theres a reason not to that he doesn't mention

but any meshes i create in 3ds seem to just crash when i import them anyway i do it.

It could be because the polygon limit on your characters is too high for the engine to handle at import stage. I know theres a limit to how detailed the individual models can be for importing, Im dont know exactly, but Id put a guess at around 5,000-10,000 being around the limit.....although some skeletal meshes in the editor are 25,000....
