What he's saying is that at the rate PC game graphics are evolving, no computer is going to be very useful in the near future for high-end games.

Actually I would have to say it sounds like a piece of ****. You paid for a q6700 and Vista x32. Only 2 gigs of memory? A wide screen monitor for what? Nice try come back later asking why your PC is so slow.

Are you guys serious? From what he has picked out, I would say his system is VERY future-proof. Future 3-way SLI, full 1600mhz FSB for the 9000 series HIGH-END Intel Quads, and its easy to add a couple gigs of ram. If people want to flame on the guy, how bout making some upgrade suggestions, and stop giving dumb ass responses. Obviously he built this system, keeping future upgrades in mind. My brother bought a e-6600 and 2 gtx's 1 1/2 years ago, and now with a good OC he still has no problems running everything out at max.(in some cases without AA eg. crysis) He probaly still has a year or more before his next BIG upgrade. When it comes to computers, future proof usually means 2-3 years. I think you'll be fine mechanism, just upgrade as you need it.

Agreed, and I guess it will last for about 5/6 years tho, but in the end you will be playing games on low details :P

Thats what he meant about future-proof. It may even last longer if he upgrades as he needs it. Doubtfull though.

PS. Too many kids around tonight I guess.

@ people who think PC gaming is more expensive than Console gaming, think again.

I can build a PC that runs UT3 at 75 FPS stable for 450 euros. And I don't even need to spend money a TV \o/

The trick is to order the parts and build it yourself.

    @ OP

Looks good, am running 1 gig on Vista, runs great, 2 gig should be enough.
800 Watt is a bit overkill for a system like this, CPU's have come to be very efficient over the years. For the rest I'd say its pretty perfect, best bang for buck you can get at the moment.

Unless you are going to overclock your system i guess you will need to upgrade it at the end of this year or perhaps in the beginning of 2009, thats if you want to be able to run games at their highest settings though. Im pretty picky about graphics settings when it comes to gaming but i guess that i'll run into the same problem when games like Alan Wake are released :/

If you'r going to overclock you'r system i think you will be able to play most games at high settings for atleast a year or even a year and a half (might need to add some more ram and upgrade to a 64bit OS (due to 32bits ram limitation)).

Nice computer though, will play UT3 flawlessly

    Nothing is future proof.

Besides, I'd advise everyone thinking of buying a new mobo / cpu to wait till Q4 of 08 or Q1 of 09 for the new generation of CPU's. They're going to use a new socket so.

It didn't say that it had 3 sli, just that the mobo supports it.

n8800gts? Isn't that already old? I have 8800GTX and it can't take Crysis on highest setting past 10fps.

But besides that and the low RAM it look good for a year or two. Should have built it yourself though.

That should last you about two years & 1/2 of good high end gaming fun on a PC. Considering the market for sweet PC gaming is expensive as hell when having to constantly upgrade for a better experience.

I thought my rig was pretty future proof back in 2005 when i built it
    ...A64 3000+ that OC's to 2400 from 1800 (30% OC)
twin 76 gig SATA Raptors ( 10,000 rpm)
and the last greatest AGP card Ge Force 7800GS

only change id make above is use XP instead of Vista.
then itll be a biatchin rig!
with 2 gigs ram? aww yeeeah baby! a screamer!

Vista will leave ya wanting more. like a cheap whore. hahahaha!!

and isnt the new M$ OS supposed to be out in a year or so?
I have Vista Ultimate... im not running it myself. i hate it.
its always in my face and this wont work that wont work
    "sorry drivers not ready".....forget Vista.

If everyone waited for the next best thing, no one would never build a computer. There's always something better just around the corner. Maybe in a year or more he MAY need a few upgrades, but for right now the only improvements I would make is a second GPU for SLI, and maybe 2 more gigs of ram. He can OC the **** out of the q6700 with that zalman, so I doubt he will need a processor upgrade for atleast 3 years. Ive seen many OC's for that processsor, all well above the 3ghz range. Most at 3.5-3.7ghz. Over 4ghz with water cooling. At those speeds the q6700 actually can beat a STOCK qx9650, but an OC'd qx9650 would probally destroy the q6700 at the same clock speed.

actually its not "full 1600mhz FSB" the ram he picked is only DDR2 ram, which will max out at 800mhz. to actually take advantage of the 1600mhz fsb, you need to get DDR3 ram that is specifically capable of running at 1600mhz, and if you want to run vista with gaming applications you realistically need 4gb of ram. to buy 4gb of DDR3 you will have to mortgage your house...lol *sarcasm* but realistically for 4gb of DDR3 1600mhz ram your easily talking $700+

but with that out of the way, to the original thread author, i would have to say this pc will / should be "good" for the next 1.5 years or so, then "ok" for another year after that. so if by "future proof" you mean getting 2+ years out of your rig, what you have should do that for you. As far as the 2gb of ram, that is far far too low. especially if you plan on running vista/games you will want to have at least 4gb of ram. You do not need DDR3, especially with its high price to low performance gain as of right now so sticking with DDR2 best but u need 4gb
