Unhappy (Solved!) Unable to get EVENT sounds (Map Stingers) to function properly

For my solution see post 6

I have a map in the beta section (CTF-Inner_Sanctums) that I am trying to add "stinger" (accent) sounds to. I have imported a music file from ut2004 and it is working fine (due to tutorials at these forums). When you right click on your imported music file and choose properties you have the ability to add "Tension, Victory, suspense" sound tracks. Below that is an area for Map Stingers such as Multikill, Grab Flag, Return Flag etc. and this is where my problem is.

I can add an effect such as a Gong sound or a music stinger, all from Epic supplied packages, into an event such as Tie score or Grab flag or most any of the Map Stinger Options and it will work...ONCE. Some of them do not seem to work at all but the one where the enemy flag is brought back to your base flag does sound off but only the first time (Victory score I think). I rebuild the map and save it and have tested it in the editor and in the game with the same results.

I have described what I have done as listed above. What am I doing wrong in that it only plays ONCE and not each time the enemy's flag is captured and brought to your own flag base? I have not noticed anything that says something like "Play sound each time this event happens" (LOL) and Frustration is setting in rapidly.

Please take pity on this lowly mapper and toss a few ideas my way?

    Thank you!

Are you selecting Sound CUE and not the Sounds themselves? Each sound you import, create a Sound CUE, then select the Sound CUE for the stinger.

I wrote a tutorial for adding custom music - the process is approx. the same for adding the Stingers. Here is the URL: http://www.sonicwallpaper.com/unreal...omMapMusic.htm

    Hope that helps.

It seems that I have done that correctly. My music file that I imported from ut2004 I called "Imported" and I have a "USOUND" and a "USOUND CUE" in my Map package that shows the actual musics title . Right clicking on "Imported" (the same as "MyMusic") and selecting properties brings up the utmapmusicInfo window and under action it shows the song file cue (collision course). Yes, the "Imported" file was the Collision course music from ut2004. That works fine.

However when I scroll down to the Map Stinger section and select a stinger cue in the generic browser for Grabflag (and clicking the green arrow), then build all and then Play from Here the sound only happens on the first flag brought back to my base...and it does not play again. below should be a pic of the Musicinfo window...

I had used the LordStrider tutorial to originally set up the music but they look very close in detail.

Im having the same problem with the stingers.

Its looking more like a bug or somthing.

Ive not seen 1 person on all the forums i visit have a solution for on event sounds, not even through Kismet, and its the only thing needed to finish the project.

Interesting. I changed my music link in world properties to "Forgone" (one of the epic included packages) and all is fine. Music is there from Forgone and the stingers work. I would imagine that the next stage is to create a music package like Epics that starts A_Music_somename and in THIS package include the Imported music and any Stingers needed and see if THAT works. Meaning that we would need to include another package with the map we release.

Hopefully I can try this soon.

Now if I can figure out how to copy just the Stingers I want...grrrr

Big Grin This will fix it!

I think I have found the way around the imported music problem I was having where Map Stingers will not work with my Imported music file. edit: Actually there seems to be THREE ways to fix this...

VoodooFox changed the tempo in the area between Suspense and Tension above where the map stingers are located in the properties window...

You can follow the information below about copying an epic file..

OR...you can just reinstall UT3 as I just had to do due to a corrupt windows xp.

Follow the instructions at this link...

    http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=585462

    I removed the [ ] or the " " and the .upk

When I ran the command I received a Save error in the log file...something about could not delete save.tmp in the binaries directory. I ignored it and followed the instructions for duplicating the file I wanted which was from A_Music_Foregone and is called A_Music_Foregone_CTF. This is the same type of file you get when you right click on the background in your generic browser with your map name selected and choose New UT Map Music (it has the old bubbly texture in the picture). I think the problem is the New UT Map Music does not work right, hence copying a good one from an Epic file.

Then I added my music as shown in this thread...(scroll down abit to find it) BUT did NOT create the New UT Map Music file as shown in the threads instructions.

    http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=590263

I then opened world properties from the view drop-down and expanded the UTMAPInfo and set the map music info to my duplicated file of Foregone_CTF (which I had renamed during the duplication process to A_Music_Inner). I opened the properties window for the duplicated file (A_Music_Inner) and set the Action, suspense etc to my imported .wav sound cue. Just to be safe, I saved my map under a different name and then built the map. when I did a "play from here" in the editor I heard my music and the preset stingers from the Foregone file. I changed the stingers around and they played properly!

I have not "cooked" the map yet to make sure the changes stay (I suspect they would) as I have run out of time for tonight.

Warning: Nothing went wrong for me such as total existence failure / computer crashing / UT3 not working anymore... but IT MIGHT happen, so don't blame me if your computer suddenly becomes a black hole and swallows your cat! If it works after the cooking I will try to clean up the instructions and get it exactly right as my notes are a bit cramped.
