This post is coming from a long-time Epic fan and UT player. I'm old enough to remember playing Jazz Jackrabbit but I've also been there since Day 1 for Unreal Tournament's original release. We affectionately call it UT99 around here, but the local LAN scene has been playing it as well as UT2k3 and UT2k4 for as long as I can remember.
With UT3's release I was one of the biggest advocates of the game and how the LAN scene needed to throw an event around the game's release. Lots of people obviously saw the high requirements and choppy gameplay for PCs not running high end hardware and a lot of gamers abandoned the idea.
Now that we're finally having another event here in Indy I'm pretty jazzed about getting people interested and getting some LAN games going. As a owner of the CE version of the game I loaded everything up last night again, patched, and downloaded the new Bonus Pack. I turned off my internet connection (because the LAN event can't support 200 people on Cable), and came to the realization that my profile is useless (even though I hate not having my name anyway because it's already registered). It threw me into a LAN game as [iG]Player.
So uh... I've been pushing for people to buy UT3 to play it tomorrow and Sunday at our LAN but now I realized no one will be able to know who's fragging who...
There absolutely HAS to be something I'm missing here. Some way to configure our names offline. Please... tell me there's something.
It's also worth mentioning that Epic Games has sponsored our event for years and there's been such a huge call of support from us for Epic and it's releases... but without any of us actually being able to enjoy UT3 at the event isn't going to resonate well.
