Default Is the PC version worth buying for such a rig

    Hello everyone.

I've just bought Unreal Tournament III and I enjoy the game greatly. Been playing the unreal series since Unreal 1 was released. I was wondering if UTIII would work on my quite old PC:

AMD Geode 2800+ (single core 2,25 Ghz)
    1 gig of ram
    GF7300 GT Sonic 256 mb O/C

... and it does, quite well in fact. I get about 5100 marks in 3Dmark 05. I run the game at 800x600 mid details and it's very enjoyable. I was wondering if I can expect similar performance from Gears. I know it's U3 engine, I know that the PC minimum requirements are similar to those of UT3 but still, this game was intended for Xbox 360 and I do not want to waste my money on something that won't run as it should. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a DEMO released yet so I cannot check the performance. What do you think? Can I expect that the game will run on such a rig?

I wouldnt even consider buying the PC version until its patched and properly playable (that is, unless you enjoy not being able to save your game).

I had issues with it crashing and losing saves for a time, but thankfully it's gone now. I've heard there are also ways to recover the saves fairly easily.
There are a lot of issues with it, but they're scattered accross all sorts of rigs. It's unfortunately kind of a crap shoot which ones you'll get. My installation is prone to occasional crashing, hitching and hitch-related mouse hiccups, but that's about it. Some people have no problems, others can't even complete the game. It's hard to say, really, and made worse by the lack of a demo.
MAP MIXER 3.00 Final! UT ain't complete without it.
