    Default Material: Light Source Colouring

    Heya

I need to make a material that changes colour based on the light hitting it.

This material then needs to be applied to a static mesh. However my previous attempts at applying a new texture to a static mesh have failed.

I select the static mesh, sync to generic browser, select the static mesh, right click, open static mesh editor, open the LOD parameter, change the texture, close the editor. When i 'play from here' it shows no change and when i go back into the editor the original material is still applied.

I cant work out whats going on so any help here would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

Are you applying the material to one of Epic's meshes? In that case, you have to apply it to the instance in the scene. Select your material in the generic browser, select the mesh in the scene, then right-click and choose Materials->[Material]->Assign From Generic Browser

You have to fully load, then save the changed packages, as well as build and save the map.

ok fixed all the saving issues it was because I was trying to change the epic mesh in the static mesh editor.

I instanced it and everythings fine.

All i need now is a material that takes the colour of the light shinging on it and not a tinted version.

I dont know what you try to achieve. But if i understand you right.. just apply a white material It will always have the colour of the light it gets hit by. That's really all you need. It would actually be a lot more difficult to create a "tinted" version that you descriped.

Could it be that you look for a Material that acutally multipies all the colorinformation it receives through light?

    possibly

You see a white material reflects a red light and produces a pink texture.

The tric im trying to acheive is making it look like the light and the material are as one. The effect im getting atm though is a red light, a pink wall-light material. The light being spread around is way too red to look like its coming from the light.

I gave up on it for now. maybe when more documentation is floating around I can figure this one out.
