Something funny from the GDC

Epic needs better technology partners I think. I was watching G4 and Xplay is at the GDC all this week and they interviewed the CEO of the company that provides the facial animation technology for the cinematic cut scenes and I swear he actually called this game "Universal Tournament III" ... I almost busted a gut ... Epic you may want to send all your tech partners to some sort of orientation so that when they get TV face time they don't mangle the name of your product.

What was cool is that they showed a lot of UT3 footage ... very cool. To bad they didn't interview Mark ... I am thinking that today with the announcement of Gears 2 they will get to him though and ask him more about it.

What I find amusing about GDC is Epic joining this so-called "PC Gaming Alliance", when their focus is obviously on consoles. The only explanation I can offer is that they want to appear to care about PC gaming so they can get us to beta-test more of their console games for them in the future..

You have to understand the guy has worked with what, more than 30 titles?

He is older and probably doesn't play games that much, just works on them.

I know man ... I just thought is was funny ... Universal Tournament III ... hmmm maybe this is some new secret project that Epic is working on and he gave it away. lol

What is utilizing UE4 .. Mark keeps saying that there is no UE4 ... just some notes and equations on paper and in Tim's head?

I was just kidding about UE4, but it's been rumored for a while. The "trusty" Wiki says it's going into further development this year. Until there is news, "there is no UE4" just like no one at Epic "knows about" GOW2.

There is a video out there showing some new cool stuff..

There's something about lightning - Ambient Light occlusion.... Don't bust me on this. I'm not sure it's called that. But in general it's something about the environment dropping shadows based on light intensity - or not... not sure - but looked very cool

Another example is an entire army or hordes of the bad guys in Gears.. don't remember ahhhh.. LOCUST

BOOOOOOOOOM

And a pretty NICE MEAT BALL! All spungy n' stufff.. Very good stufff

UE - the Meat n' Grit version xD
