    Map - Deathmatch (PC/PS3) DM-Tokyo_Sewer [PC][PS3]

    This is my first map for UT3, mainly a learning curve to get around in the new editor.
    DM-Tokyo_Sewer from UnrealPlayground.com
    DM-Tokyo_Sewer PS3 version from FilePlanet.com
    DM-Tokyo_Sewer-PS3 from MediaFire.com
    The map itself is based on the actual Tokyo tsunami sewer control system.
    Almost all the level is custom as looking through the packages seems to uncover lots of brown and grey......
    The new Bink video tools are pretty cool, so there's a few vid's playing in the main control room.
    EXTRACTION - I've already subfoldered the map in the winzip so extract to UnrealTournament3>UTGame.

    If you look up in various places you might just see a Totoro

    I haven't played the map yet, but after seeing the screenshots, I would say it looks abit too bright. Other than that, looks nice. Always interesting when there's custom content

    Durring my trip to Japan a few years ago, uor tour got to check out the tokyo sewers, and it looks alot like this. You must have seen them at one point or another, cuz no one would just guess how bright and clean the sewers are in Tokyo. I'm a PS3 player, so I can't test your map, but I can tell you and anyone else that thinks this may be a bit too bright for a sewer, that is exactly the atmosphere in the sewers of Tokyo. You did a great job at recreating it.

    Looks like it could use some polish, but the theme looks very cool and unique, so I'll D/L and give it a try.

    I've only gone on a handful of images that i have. I allways liked the look of them as it looks very surreal. What was it like in there?
    If i ever get to Japan for a holiday, it's on my top 10 of things to do (i'm an Aussie).
    Also, i'll have to work out the PS3 cooking lark, i know i have to remove a custom sound (Samurai X opening theme) before hand.

    Nice map... thank you!

    I did notice something funny though, I'm running the map on an Invasion server and the mapname in the browser is "DM-ToykoSewerAlpha2" you may want to fix that.

    Super good gameplay though man...gj!

    yea, the sewers are really cool in real life. They are so clean you could eat off the floor. If anything, they are cleaner and brighter in real life, than you make them look here. The walls are like, bright white, and red is the major contrast color. They also have alot of those oblong pillars, like you put in the map.

    Not a bad effort, but the gameplay fails to back up the visuals. The layout felt far too open and even though it may be authentic to the actual sewers, made this map way to hitscan. The pillars in the main areas broke it up a bit, but the corridors are still really long and even on a high player count, the action was sparse. Also, the large open water sections disrupt the flow way too much, not to mention the bots get stuck in the pool beneath the shield belt.
    I also managed to fall through the world twice (somewhere near the curving fence I think) and I saw a bot in that same area hovering above the floor and not moving.
    Again, not a bad map, but there are some serious issues that need fixing and the layout needs to be reworked.

    Buffytheslayer, I looked at your "sewer" pics and technically that isn't a sewer at all. It sort of functions like a sewer but what that is in reality is a flood control system. There are 5 man-made caverns in the complex and it can hold an entire lake's worth of water. During flooding and heavy rain water is diverted into this underground system as a sort of holding tank until it can be pumped back into the edogawa river system using 14,000 horsepower turbines . I learned about this on the Discovery channel.

    Oh yeah very interesting premise and nice design...

    I will be putting this up on the kAoS server (Sydney) soon as Epic have fixed the compression issue in the redirection.

    Good work...

    Out of curiosity were you the one that made DM-Shred for Ut2004?

    It was a keeper and was always been played on our server, we loved it....

    Thanks Anuban, i just stumbled upon the Tut for PS3 cooking this morning and have cooked and about to find somewhere to upload it (probably filefront).
    Yeah, been around a long while, i think this is map #104 from memory
    it is advertising on my server as Tokyo_Sewer_Alpha2
    I forgot to change the map name in the world info, no biggie though......

    Nah mate (fellow Aussie eh). Probably the most notable i've made was AS-BP2-Outback for EPIC's MEGAPACK.

    Thanks mate, yeah i might convert a few for UT3, still debating which at the moment.
    I wouldn't mind doing DM-Seasons actually, with the added detail i could cram into the church, aswell as speed tree and the bump mapped rocks it would look AWESOME
    Would be pretty quick to make too, as it's virtually a small map duplicated three times then each area "seasonized"....lol.

    UT2004 version already so beautifull so I cant Imagine how in UT3

    One very pretty big glaring problem. Some of the surfaces in the map don't let you feign death on them well because you drop through them and you die.

    LOL, i'll have to remember that.
    I'm not used to checking feign death on surfaces when making maps, but i can see how the issue would arrise with collisions (radii to ragdoll).

    -feign death collision issue
    -map name prefix
    -a few other small fixes

    BTW Buffy, i spent a bit of time translating various signs to Japanese using www.babelfish.com. Hopefullly they came out right.

    There might be another small issue: in TDM (haven't tried regular DM yet), bots tend to get stuck in the area near the invisibility pickup. They just stand there, frozen or slightly twitching, and won't move until you shoot them. Strangely, this only seems to happen to bots on the red team. The blue team seems to prefer collective swims in the pool thing.

    LordSimeon, I hope you get the PS3 version available soon! If not, I'm sure Anuban could do it. We haven't gotten anything in a while, and your map looks like just the thing to revitalize my gaming!

    4TX4, yeah that's another small fix if i get around to doing a redux, i'm into my new map at the moment though which is taking up all my brain time
    Buffy, wish i knew you we're Japanese before i started the signs, i could have asked you to translate for me in perfect Japanese.
    I forget what the yellow one says, something like "WARNING" or something along those lines. I actually work in a steelmill, so those type of signs are commonplace around the mill.

    I noticed once when I died on a catwalk I fell through it. I assume that's the same issue.


    The only other thing I noticed was some of the characters on the oblong pillars disappearing at close range.


    The map is great fun. It seemed huge on my initial fly through, (and I guess it is) but not overly so. Once the game got going (with suitable numbers of bots) it flowed well. It does seem to like lots of players

    The look is sweet. Something different from the usual UT, and based on something that really exists in the process. Nice. And Harumi
