Smile Are mirros with real reflections possible, reflective water?

Hi all, I used to have a lot of fun making maps for the Source engine and the Half-life 1 engine before that. With Source, it was a snap to add amazing water to your level that reflected, distorted, and moved like real water. I've seen the water in one of the DM maps and it looks good and all, but it doesn't reflect the real world. Is there a way to create water that will do that?

Also, one thing that peeved me about the Source engine, no mirrors! Its not really a big deal, but I'd like to know if I can do it in the UT3 engine. I'ved poked around a little bit and can't find anything and googling hasn't yield anything for me, plz help

a multiplayer game doesnt need in my opinion realtime reflection, even CSS or HL2 deathmatch don't have them (AFAIK)

Let me refer you to this thread: http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=600205

Yes they are possible and they look freakin' sweet!

    Here is a simple example:

    Water Reflection:

    Make it reflect everything:

You can even see your own reflection in the water:

Yes they are possible, and look sweet. However I added one for my CTF-ThornsClassic (mind you. Classic bsp map of total 1000 polys or so). And FPS dropped from 200+ to mere 30. I doubt realtime reflections will be ever worth performance hit they cause, because they double render times independely off technology and gpu/cpu speeds.

    thanks for the links guys

Ekt0F0rm, is that actually water in your pics? I saw from your link how to do a reflective surface and how to make the reflection not perfect, but I didn't find out how to make water like in the sweet pics you sent me. Can someone link me to a tutorial or thread about that kind of water?

By the way, I realize reflections and that crazy awesome water in the pics from Ekt0F0rm might ruin the frame-rate, but I'll find a way to make it work. If the frame-rate doesn't work out, I can still have one pretty map

I suppose I could try writing a tutorial for water like that as well as similar styles of water...

As for performance, the reflections I have used in one of my maps have not screwed with performance that I can notice yet. 8800 GTX SLI FTW!

    Also, I am crAzY!!!!
