Default UT3 shows splash screen, does nothing else

    Current system:
    AMD X2 6000+
    GeForce 8800 GTS
    Windows XP x64

Task manager shows the UT3 process ending after the splash screen.

Patched the game, updated the drivers, ran a clean boot. None of it worked.

I don't get an error, the splash screen simply goes away, shortly followed by the UT3.exe process.

Try the general crash tips in the stickies. Many of the "game won't start" threads may also be of help.

The nVidia driver linked didn't fix it. Neither did the *.ini settings.

Most of the other game won't start threads mention at least seeing the opening movies or the main menu, which doesn't apply in my case. Neither does the OpenAL thing, I'm using onboard sound and not an X-Fi.

The fact that there's a 29-page monstrosity of a "game won't start" thread two months after release with no fix or even acknowledgment doesn't do wonders for my confidence.

    Unhappy UT3.exe wont load

I am having a very similar problem, my installation (several times just to be sure) went fine, all my laptop specs are well above the required, running vista ultimate, have the vista compatible copy of UT3
I have vistited every site i could find to help solve this problem, all i get is the start up screen just like the box cover then nothing, this freezes in the centre of my screen, the top left hand 1/4 goes black and i get the error message UT3.exe has stopped working, this lasts for about 30 seconds then UT3 just switches off!!!!! please help, i am getting pretty desperate:

I don't even get an error message, even that would be helpful. The program just quietly goes away after the splash screen. I never leave my desktop.

Anyone know if there's a support phone number I can call?

I would try starting the game from the console (I don't know its name in Vista, it's the good-old dos-box) and see if it throws any helpful messages before crashing.
At least you can see what happens last before it dies.

Driver Sweeper fixed my crash/hang issues. Run it in safe mode and install (or reinstall) 169.28 for an NV card, 7.12 for ATI.
