    Default Server missing from browser

I've set up a dedictaed linux server. The game starts OK, and I can connect to it from another machine on my lan by using:
    open <public ip address>
from the console, but it doesn't appear in the server browser.

The correct ports are forwarded to the server machine (7777, 6500 and 13000 UDP). Is there anything else I should be doing? I can post (parts of) the log file i f it helps.

It's not entirely clear how the server is supposed to figure out the public ip address to advertise - should I be settting this somewhere?

You must have valid gamespy -login and -password parameters specified in the startup command line. The server must have these to register itself with the gamespy master server. Also you must make sure you have bShouldAdvertise=True in your ini file or command line. Third make sure bIsLanMatch=False is also set.

It's a good idea to put these in the command line to make sure they are properly set at least until you get things working.

Make sure you do not have ServerDescription="Blah Blah Blah" in the command line as various characters will truncate the command line. Instead set the server name in the UTGame.ini file. This goes for MessageOfTheDay and other server name items as well.

Here is a sample command line generated from one of the websites listed in the stickies.

    ./ut3 server WAR-Avalanche?Game=UTGameContent.UTOnslaughtGame_Conte nt?MaxPlayers=16?GoalScore=3?TimeLimit=20?MinNetPl ayers=1?NumPlay=8?BotSkill=3?ForceRespawn=1?GameMo de=2?ServerDescription=056000118000115000056000032 000087000065000082000?AdminEmail=admin-email?AdminPassword=admin-password?bIsDedicated=True?bShouldAdvertise=True?b IsLanMatch=False?bUsesStats=True?bAllowJoinInProgr ess=True?PureServer=1?LockedServer=0?NumPublicConn ections=16 -Login=JoeBlow -Password=JB-password -unattended

GameMode tells the master server where to place the server, 1 is CTF, 2 is WAR, 3 is VCTF, etc. if you have the wrong GameMode, the server will show up on the wrong list.
The server description shows up as "8v8 WAR" ans is generated using an online generator.

You need to setup your router to forward certain ports to your server. The router assigns, if your using DHCP, (or you need to manually assign) a different address to each box connected to it. Say the router IP you see is 192.168.10.1, then it assigns 92.168.10.101 to your game box, 92.168.10.103 to your workstation, and 92.168.10.102 to the server. These are internal numbers, those outside your network see only the IP number assigned to your cable modem or broadband converter. The router is then set up to forward the correct ports to the proper internal IP, in this case, the ports 7777, 6500, and 13000 are forwarded to 92.168.10.102, which is the internal address of the server. You need to forward the ports on your router to your ut3 server. To find out this address type ifconfig as root. It will be the same as your router except for the numbers after the last period.

Login to the router via the standard browser with the router address. http://192.168.10.1 for some, but find the one your router uses in the manual, different ones use different numbers. Then go to the router setup, usually advanced setup or settings, port forwarding. Many different router setup pages and no two are the same. You need to list the 3 ports to forward, UDP, assign to the address the router assigned to your UT3 server, say, 192.168.10.101 for example. To find out this address type ifconfig as root. It will be the same as your router except for the numbers after the last period.

You no longer use a command line that's a mile long since like a month....

With 1.1 you can set almost everything in the ini

OK - I've fiddled around with my /etc/hosts file and now it's appearing. The command line and port forwarding were OK. I'm not entirely sure what the problem was before... if I figure it out exactly I'll post back.

I like using the command line for everything. I am able to change game types, WAR, vCTF, CTF, numbers of players, etc, with already constructed command lines. It's as fast as ls, more ctf.txt, highlight, center click, enter. There are probably some parameters that never change that I could move to the ini. But, it works for now, so that's very low priority. Perhaps owners of those websites with the generators can also update them. They make things real nice and easy.
