Map - Capture the Flag (PC) CTF-Desolation (wip)

    CTF-Desolation

This map is still very much work in progress. The main base is done with also part of the courtyard area to connect to the other base. I am still making the mid ground which will be a few hallways/room. I am making a lot of new content for this map. In general I am also trying to make a map that is nice looking but not visually cluttered. Another of my goals is to make all of the map within maya even layout wise. I know this is an odd way to work... I did not even make the layout boxed in with bsp this is more of a personal test to check out this amazing editor than making a great playing map. Although I intend to make the gameplay as good as possible in that part also

Check out of the bigger versions.

In general this will take a bit intill I have a playable version.

edit: ALso how do I make the pictures above screenshots/smaller for easy of loading in the fourms?

edit2: so people know I am AKA Desperado#2 or desp. I just started using my real name instead

Looks incredibly good. You could definitely make it look more "High Tech" (No clue of the theme here) by making the walls more or less a silky reflective texture rather then concrete. I think that'd look nice too.

    Thumbs up wow wow !

cant wait to have this map

thanks really for the nice comments. Been looking into doing water I got it working though I had to tweak it like hell so it does not give a problem that I did not see intill I started to use transparent water with distortions. it still gives the problem but it is not really seen unless your up close to a mesh right next to the water. But yeah the more I go into the material editor the more I love it. I think I may just dedicate myself on making crazy materials and documenting them becuase man it is just fun. after this map though.

    OMG Desperado!

My alltime favorite mapper ever. I have yet to see a map more beatiful than Nirvana][ for UT2k3/4.

Its kinda scary I was thinking of you just the other day and what you could possibly be up to. Now I know.

Will follow this map closely and let me know if you want any beta input regarding gameplay or so.

Thanks here are more pics I have been mostly dealing with shaders figuring out stuff. I actaully made a pretty cool light cone different than the one made by Epic using a fresnal as the opacity mask and than adding a gradient mask so it fades. Added my own water for the low water canal with small genetal falls. Looks great in action. The lighting is mostly working the post atm just deciding what color pallet is good I kind like this one so far but it changes quite a bit lol. Either way getting to the point where I should really make the mid ground with gameplay elements and actually play it and see how it works out lol. As for gameplay I do not expect it to be amazing just good.

This map looks too damn nice to be the site for a senseless battle

    Few suggestions:

-the texture used for the thin metal designs (I really dunno what to call them, they're in the 2nd screenie) is maybe too complex for it's own good. Maybe a more consistent texture with a simple specular map would be less 'busy'

-the white trees outside in the 3rd screenie look pretty strange, and not really in a good way IMO (might be the way they are lit). Since you have some nice green vines out there as well as some hedges, why not try to replace those albino trees with some vibrant green ones? Could look nice with that bit of colour

That's about it.. hard to find fault in this map so far, really

Overall, this map is truly inspiring

Surprisingly, this looks very promising (joking), only upon seeing the author's name, I know this is going to be a pretty darn good map.

Anyway, the custom made meshes looks fantastic (especially the pillar one and the background), can't wait for the map to be released
