    MAP-CTF CTF-IndustrialWar

    Salutation:
    hi,
    Intro:
    i made a new CTF map, using meshes and texture which are given by ut3.
    its first time i made a map for ut ever, so be kind!
    at first i tried to make a good instagib map, but i put some weapons for classic there too.

    Actually to say is:
    • there is no bot support, i have still some probs by placing the pathnode the right way
    • weapons maybe bad placed, i play most time iCTF, so dunno where and which weapon or pickups would be best
    • for the translocators nearly all pathes for leaving the map is closed, hopefully
    • known lightbug on lift, only on lowdetail graphics (dunno why this happens)
    • no zones named to located m8s etc.

    Good work. I'm not that good a gamer so I can't give you much advice about the layout. Seems pretty good to me though. Lighting is a bit shaky, makes the map feel sort of FLAT (not much interesting going on in terms of lighting). You might wanna work on that. And I'm not sure but I think your sky doesn't match the lighting as well. Also, it might be khool to have some post process effects going on in there. I'm downloading the map but won't try it out for another 18 hours at least (have a final, so studying right now ).
    Meanwhile other people will probably give you better advice .

    P.S. Work hard on the lighting .

    Yeah, plays well, but as jansoft said, you got to work on some lighting, maybe make it dawn it'd look nice and you'd get lots of shadows and light

    I'm not sure if it would work or not but I'd seal the map with blocking volumes on all sides. A blocking volume, a variation of a blocking volume, or a big BSP with a transparent material for that matter should work but I'm not sure.

    thx dudes.

    idd i really have some probs atm in setting up a good light enviroment. i do my best to work on it. it's more a "put lights and see what happens". and i actually dont know how to use the lights in a right way. so be patient and stay tuned

    BUT??? your sentence was incomplete . Anyhow, if in the end the lighting starts to make you wanna kill yourself , then I can help you set it up (not that I'm good at it or anything , just offering help).

    anyway i gonna freeze the map project until next year, i'm going on holiday tomorrow.
    maybe i can find some more informations/tutz about the right light envi in this time

    I played your map a little. Noticed somethings that could have been better (like item placement of certain items). Shall post in detail later (don't have time right now).

    he said in his topic start that he normally only plays instagib so item placement would probably be off.

    Interesting map, I can very well see this one being used in official iCTF wars. Hope to see this one finished soon as CTF community needs maps that fit competetive play badly.

    Please don't give up working on this map and keeping us in the loop. This looks like it has the promise to be a heavily played CTF level .. it just has a really fun vibe to it and excellent visuals ... I really would like to see this reach its promise and make it over to the final releases as a solid level everyone can enjoy.

    Well I think this map is the **** and I am confident it would be embraced by the competetive community, atleast the iCTF one.

    My only gripe is the top broken bridge in the middle. You have elevators up to the bridge but the hole is to wide to walljump over and without TLs that kinda eliminates that path.

    Any thoughts about that?

    Any news on the latest update? It looks really cool and I am a sucker for these textures so hopefully you've got a beta with at least basic bot support so we can really have fun. I really want to play this map.

    map:
    still teh same, work goes on on jan,3rd
    ut3 DVD:
    forgotten @home, so cant do n e thing @holidays (shame on me), i took the bonus dvd so i had hours of tutorials to watch and was inspired by some things
    notebook:
    still dead -.-

    the broken bridge is sumthing i still think about, i dont want to make the homegoing with the flag that eazy, thats the reason why there is the gap.will see what happen if we can play it first time and change it later.

    the update would come in the first week next year i think

    I just reread this thread and noticed that you won't be working on this map anymore until next year so no update is necessary ... I do hope you are able to get your pc fixed in the early part of next year because I really want to try this level out with bots. Good luck.

    Edit: Ha! You beat me to it ... well at least we can look forward to you starting back up soon. Thanks for the update.

    okay i'm back now
    lightproblem: to simulate a dawn (an idea i really like) i took a directional light:
    i put a d.light in, set up the direction and the lightcolor, forcedynamiclight to true that it enlights the map. to see shadows of the staticmeshes i set dynamicshadows to true. but result looks so:



    dunno what to do, to put a good shadowplay in this map.

    next point will be the right placement for the pickups, maybe someone who played it can tell me to do this better

    i know the lightproblem would be better in another thread but maybe someone could help

    When you release the next beta I will pay special attention to the weapon layout. I don't profess to be an expert so the more eyes and opinions/suggestions the better but I play enough so that I think I can offer some good points.

    i added some pathnodes for bots and tried to setup the sunlight
    new screens:

    i dont have that much time atm... but do my best to fix and repair the bugs for the upcoming final release

    i dont get the bots walk the ways i want.
    lights are done imo.
    still thinking and need help for weapon placement, gonna try to make a map overview to edit it in a better way.

    - atm i try to fix the bots ways... some get still stuck. but hey they did already cap

    - as told i try to balance the weapons my self... the best way a quaker can do

    - i want to add some more graphic effects, if someone has any ideas, shout it out loud!

    my server moved so the links were broken for a few hours.
