Default PC Dedicated Server for PS3 Players?

I would like to set up a PS3 Dedicated server. Is there something I am missing to serve PS3 players only? I have the dedicated server files installed & the patch. Anyone knowing what they are doing care to help? I have a 20mb down/5mb up Fiber line.

Edit: In case this is confusing I am asking how to set up the PC dedicated server to serve PS3 games, as its already been stated by Mark Rein its possible to do.

Maybe I'm behind the times on this one... The PS3 version is out already? I thought it was delayed until March

Yes the game is out on the PS3 now. I've checked the PS3 in game dedicated server & there is the option to allow KB so I've read the PC dedicated server should also serve PS3 games. I would like to set one up.

The question was posed last month,

How will custom content work regarding the PS3 clients connecting and how will I designate a server is for PS3 clients?
The response from Jeff Morris was:

Hi all. PS3 servers require being run on PS3s. Epic is putting up a bunch of PS3 DS, but the console universe traditionally is listen servers.

Don't know where you got that. But according to Mark Rein
So, the PlayStation 3 and PC version aren’t compatible at all?

“Not quite. There’s still some interaction between them. If you own both then you can start up your PC and set it to run a dedicated server just for PS3 and use that, which is so, so cool in my opinion. The mutators and mods are compatible too and can be taken from PC to PS3. There’s a few steps to that and you have to use a memory card or whatever, but it’s there.”

Mark Rein wears a suit and lies to sell games. Jeff Morris actually programs the game.

You can run a dedicated server from the PS3 but if the PC dedicated server files are unable to run a PS3 dedicated server as I was led to believe. I sure would like to see an official sticky or announcement made. Typically being a PC player I am rather used to running my own servers. I would like to run my own KB/M with Controller server with the settings of my choice. Also this sort of causes an issue for mods if the PS3 versions all have to be either a listen server or someone with multiple PS3's able to run one as a dedicated server.

Personally I do not intend on running my PS3 as a UT3 dedicated server thus not allowing me to play the game. Seems I may have bought this game in haste.

At this point it is not possible to run a PS3 dedicated server using the PC binaries. I cannot say whether this will ever change or not.

As far as an official announcement goes, an email from Jeff Morris to the server admin mailing list declaring this to be fact is about as official as you are ever going to get around here. You must be new.

Additionally, it sounds like you shouldn't have bought that game at all. The dedicated server installation is a free download. If you are playing on PS3 then you do not need to purchase the PC version to run a server.

I've said I have the dedicated server files as well as the patch installed. New to these forums yes, but not new at all to Unreal-anything. I bought UT3 for the PS3 as this years finances made my PC upgrade an impossibility. Other lures were the KB/M support & what I read of Mark Rein saying you could run a PS3 dedicated server on the PC.

What I posted (it's from the server admin mailing list) was after that interview w/Mr. Rein; which I also pointed out after Jeff Morris' response because I was interested in the possibilty of hosting a server for PS3 players using a PC based server and the dedicated package.

Well I just had a look at the PS3 servers. 10 deathmatch of which none looked to be run by Epic or at least were stated to be "Epic" servers. 1 server was dedicated. Most of the server were well into the 100+ pings. 300+ to be exact.

I just quote what the man said about Epic and PS3 servers. Either way, there currently is no dedicated server package to use to host PS3 players; otherwise I'd probably have one running. Here's last part of the discussion where I was asking the same thing as you:

Understood. However, if a PC can do it locally now, wouldn't it stand to
reason that a PC based server package could (cautiously uses the word: easily)
be created for larger PC based dedicated servers to host only PS3 clients and
    traffic.

Right, but what he is saying here is that your PC can run a dedicated server
for the PS3. You can't play on it from another PC (or the same PC). This
also must be something they are planning on adding in a patch, because it is
certainly not there right now. It also explains some of the server options
that the PC version doesn't seem to use (as much as I wish it would use
    things like private player slots).

This option would be great. I've been hosting a PC dedicated server for close to 3 yrs. for the group of Freelance gamers I play with (www.thefla.net) for Star Wars: Battlefront 1 and 2 on the PS2. If they could do it on that system, it shouldn't be that big a deal for the PS3. I still host the room now and have no problems seeing it and joining it from the PS3. With that being the case, if the PS2 can do it surely the PS3 can handle it for UT3. It would seem that Epic's just gotta release software with the right coding....(or whatever they wanna call it)

Since the PC and PS3 have different versions of some of the maps I assume they would have to release a "PS3 Map Pack" as well. I still hope down the line they make the dedicated server possible on the PC/Linux but so far Midway has been putting up plenty of PS3 servers.

When creating a multiplayer game, you can choose to host as a dedicated server, and dedicated PS3 servers can be run from PCs as well. You need the PC version of UT3 and you can do it. I'm downloading the standalone UT3 Dedicated server for windows to see if the PS3 option is there also will let ppl know if it works.

I see a bunch of dedicated ones they are named Midway with a # after them. Sorry for the double post

Im so glad I waited and did not buy a ps3 for this game. (I bought pc version, havent really got to paly it yet, since I have to fix my pc)

I asked the question before during the IRC chat with Devs event. I was told something along those lines, that yes you could have redirect on ps3 and host dedicated servers. It seems neither has happened.

To be honest, without dedicated servers and file redirection(automatically downloadig and installing compressed files from a fast webserver), I dont really see how custom levels will thrive.

Maybe its something for them to do with their next patch. PS3 fans and "mod" makers should be bothering them about this. It seriously affects the longevity of the game.
mmmpeaches9: nice, i've done that before but they were all like 5 year olds, they were all crowded up and took em all out with my shotty.
    Thats terrible

Sorry, there is NO option in the standalone UT3 Dedicated server for Windows to run a server to host PS3s. Server admins asked Epic about using PC servers to host PS3 clients in the admin mailing list. The following is from the FAQ above which shows the response from Epic.

UT3 can run on PCs, PS3, and XBox360. Can I create a server on a PC that can be used to host games for PS3 and/or XBox360 players?
    - Per Epic Games, "Hi all. PS3 servers require being run on PS3s. Epic is putting up a bunch of PS3 [dedicated servers], but the console universe traditionally is listen servers." -Jeff Morris 11/28/07
There has been no change in this position from Epic so the obvious conclusion is that this option is not going to happen.

They made it sound like if you had the retail PC version there should be an option to check or command line maybe to have it host only for PS3s.

Why is there an option at the frontend for the PS3 (it indicates in my opinion that they where at least planning on doing it)

    Sigh.

I don't know. Perhaps they were planning to do it. Just like they were planning to do lots of things for the game and didn't. But it appears they aren't going forward with it.

    Sorry. Time to move on.

Yea I've only used the frontend to cook my maps to put on to PS3 thats all that drop down is for as of now. I think it was something they are planing on adding in an update to host games.

    NO.

    And, uh, NO.

    And also, once again: NO.

    Dear PS3 guys and gals,

How many times does it have to be said? Epic isn't going to do this. Time to move along now. Plz. This horse is long dead.

    The page:

    http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/UT3ModHome.html

contains an interesting link in the "Downloads" section:

    http://udn.epicgames.com/Files/UT3/P...ForPS3_120.rar

However, this link and the link to the Windows dedicated server seem to be broken.

Edit: found a link that might work http://www.epicgames.com/download/PC...ForPS3_120.zip
    Edit2: usage info dated 2008 Dec 05 here: http://forum.i3d.net/unreal-tourname...tml#post483653
