    Thumbs down UTEngine.ini is almost useless,

    If you disable DOF, then bloom, and several other post effects are removed. Is there anyway to fix this? It's like you change one thing and it causes a domino effect. The guy over at tweakguides was having several of these problems too, as he mentions how several things are removed if other settings are changed.

    TEXTUREGROUP_World=(MinLODSize=256,MaxLODSize=1024 ,LODBias=1)

    There are a range of TEXTUREGROUP settings here relating to different aspects of the game world, objects, lighting and shadows. Each has a MinLODSize, a MaxLODSize and LODBias which you can experiment with to alter image quality. For example, to alter the overall quality of vehicle surface reflections, find the line starting with TEXTUREGROUP_VehicleSpecular, and you can raise the MinLODSize value, or change the LODBias. In my testing unfortunately most changes seem to cause crashes.
    ShadowFilterQualityBias=1

    This setting controls the quality of the shadow filtering used (if shadows are enabled). Higher values provide better quality at the cost of performance, but once again with testing I was unable to note any real differences in shadow quality using this setting.
    What's the deal with the config being basically "broke" where one setting changes another, etc? UT2004 you could uncompress the lighting, textures, etc. and it would make the game look outright gorgeous. Here, we have fewer settings, and the ones we do have, a good portion of them don't work.

    (Yeah, I'm ranting, so what.)

    Edit:
    Apparently self-shadowing is removed as well.

    Apparently, there's no fix for that yet. Hopefully an upcoming patch will address it, and/or add more detailed video options that you can tweak ingame, so we don't HAVE to mess with the INI.

    At the moment, the whole ingame interface thing, for me anyway, is just... man.

    On a side note, good work on your UT2004 work. I shortly installed it again, while I wait for Epic to fix UT3. :\

    Just found out, if you change the resolution after the .ini tweak, it all goes back to normal, apparently even the depth of field.

    Well, there are a lot more complicated graphics effect in this new engine. I'm not saying it's *fair* to us, but maybe the reason is for stability or something, like it COULD theoretically all be separated but it was easier to get it stable all-together-like. I'm guessing Depth-of-field is post-processing, right? Anyway, I don't know for sure.

    Well, I think it was just done to simplify the ingame graphics settings, because, as it isn't too hard to tell, the video options are a whoooole lot more narrow than UT2004's, where you can adjust almost everything.

    Thus, they apparently decided to link a whole ton of features to the "World Detail" slider, since that would be easier/simpler than having 10 sliders/checkboxes for each individual thing. I personally would have far preferred at least having a "show advanced settings" button that revealed the more specific settings, but, as you can see, the entire UT3 Menu UI system is not exactly at a level of user-friendly prowess in which you would expect such things. IMHO, first, they should just fix the layout... then restore some functionality. It would be a real gift to having either of those done.

    Anyway, at least that's my assumption of what the deal is. Somewhere along the line, it was decided to consolize the interface, options, and menu layout, so that's what were seeing.

    yeah i tried messing with the TEXTUREGROUP lines for like an hour and i just gave up.
    setting the min the same as high does nothing ;/
    if you look at most of the MaxLODSize lines, isnt 1024 texture resolution kinda low? 2048 would be hella lot better but unfortunetly i couldnt get it to work without crashing
    i compared a high texture ingame setting ini to a level 1 texture ini and the MaxLODSize numbers dropped in half.
    Further down the ini there is a section called [SystemSettingsEditor] is that supposed to do anything? nothing happens when i change the amounts/resolutions
