    Actually if you leave bSmoothFrameRate=True

    Then set:

    MinSmoothedFrameRate=30
    MaxSmoothedFrameRate=150

    You will bypass the 90 online cap if your cpu and gpu is good! I can get over 100 sometimes in online games 7600GT and p4 2.8 DC both OC though!
    I'd like to report that this really does work online.
    I'm running 75mzh 1152 x 864, so my cap shows
    around 75fps steady.

    The display quality is noticeable for me. Very smooth.

    Using 2405FPW 24" Dell LCD high quality settings from 1st post..

    Adding another fix that's worked for others with older ATI cards.

I only have the drivers for the card itself installed and my refresh rate is at 60 hz.

    I hope this helps some of you all out that are also having this issue. I really like ATI cards, but for some reason, that catalyst has given me alot of problems in the past as well as with this game now.

    I've been wondering about what this OnlyStreamInTextures feature is about, and it appears hukus has found the answer for me.

    That's pretty nifty. For anyone that is experiencing some hitching, try setting that option up in the UTEngine.ini

    This is for the d3dx10_35.dll error you get after installing the game an attempting to launch the game for the first time.

    "The application or DLL c:\windows\system32\d3dx10_35.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

    first i updated directX via microsoft update. it didnt help

    because the problem was with a d3d10_35.dll i renamed the *d10*.dll files, and did a update again. it still didnt help.

    of course i did dxdiag but dxdiag said "no errors"

    i already thougt about formating a redo windows install, when i thought, well just delete ALL dx dll files and do a update again.

    i just deleted ALL d3dx_something.dll files and did a update again.

    know it works all fine.

    just doing a directX update is not enough, you have to delete the dx dll files before, and redo directX install.

    Anyone know why I don't have any options under system settings in my engine folder? All it tells me is that any items in the section will affect all platforms. I remember I could change them on the demo, but nothing for the full version.

    Good ini setting but they all seem to be binded to each other, you turn AF to 8x and it seem to make the game look worse when it shouldn't. Turn DOF off and all the other setting turn off from post processing.

    UT3 is just the worst version ever to tweak, it's a total mess just like the UI settings.

    My main issue was crashing while joining a game and getting the UT3.exe needs to close error. Plus I would lock up during the cutscenes.(minor issue to me) I Finally decided to go digging through the ini files and tried this fix out in the UTEngine.ini :

    [Engine.ISVHacks]
    UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=True
    bInitializeShadersOnDemand=True
    *I use the Nvidia 7800 GTX*

    Cutscenes work fine and I had no trouble joining servers. Tested it by joining 4 different servers. Thanks for the fix Ultron! Now go put in an application at Epic/Midway!

    I followed this guide to tweak UT3 in lowering graphics and smoothing the game. I dont have lowend hardware but still want it to make the game a little bit cleaner. Oh well to my problem.

    After I applied the tweaks in this guide the game is sometimes acting choppy right after match start most often 15-20 seconds. It happens always on Coret but not always on other CTF maps. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Like I said I didnt have this problem with choppines before the tweaks and no patches was applied in between either.

    I'd hazard a guess Coret needs more textures than other maps, so uploading (streaming) them to the card takes longer...

    I am adding what might be an unusual fix, but something to try for those who've tried everything else, in order to smooth things out.

    Just thought this was worth checking out and adding to the tweak column.

    Some clarification on one of the InstallShield error messages.

    I narrowed a few things down and finally tried uninstalling WinRAR. After removing WinRAR, I did not receive any more 1335 CAB errors when attempting an install! It ran without a hitch!

    Looking back, un-associating WinRAR with CAB files may do the trick just as well. Hopefully this works for some of you having issues.
    This could still be the issue where the DVD is being improperly read, and you may have to copy the contents to the hard drive again to do the install.

    Make sure you have .Net Framework 2.0 installed. You can get that through the optional Windows Updates section.

    WinRAR is somehow hijacking the install process. Unassociate it from .CAB files, first. if that fails, uninstall it.

    One person solved this by uninstalling Visual Studio and it's accompanying programs.

    Ah it's a sticky so it's already at the top. Thanks for the consideration, though.

    Just an FYI, to those of you who are interested. I plan on rewriting my opening post here, to be more clear, and inclusive of the fixes that have gone on. So bear with me it might be a day or more before I get to it. But any constructive criticism would be appreciated in the meantime, to anyone who thinks of any more changes to it.

    Instructions on how to disable your hardware firewall on your router, for troubleshooting purposes:

    If you double-click on your network connection icon in the taskbar, and click on the Support tab, you'll see the Default Gateway has a certain IP Address number. You can most likely log into that IP address by typing it in your web browser. That's the control panel for your hardware firewall. Log in (you may have to set a password if you've never logged into it before) and then look around to disable the firewall.

    Again this is just for testing network connection issues, but if you have a really cheap router (like me) you pretty much just have the option to enable or disable it. But see if the problem persists afterwards.

    None that I know of specifically, though my general advice is:

    Edit the UTEngine.ini which can be found in My Documents\MyGames\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config.

    [Engine.ISVHacks]
    bInitializeShadersOnDemand=True
    PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True

    ...and then...

    [SystemSettings]
    OnlyStreamInTextures=True
    OneFrameThreadLag=True

    Also you might try disabling sound by using the -nosound option and see if the problem occurs then. If that fixes the problem, then it could be an OpenAL issue. Disable that in the Audio settings section in-game.

    Edit: What I mean is, if you no longer get any freezes in Deck with the sound disabled, then it's an audio problem. If it's an audio problem our first guess is always, disable OpenAL and then launch the game with sounds again. See if that helps.

    Also, here is an update from kitch.

    Quote Originally Posted by kitch9 View Post

    Install it.

    Copy OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll from your system32 folder to your UT3 Binaries folder, making sure you replace the old ones.

    Enable hardware openAL ingame and see if you still have issues....

    Using the -nosound option didn't help. The game still crashed.

    Okay yeah I am sure it's a video card issue then, or perhaps something else. Not sound, however.

    One thing to try is back up or delete your UTEngine.ini file and let the game rebuild it. You'll have to reinput your CD key but maybe that can help eliminate the problem by going back to the basics.

    Another thing, you could try setting the world and texture detail settings down to 1/1 and see if that helps.

    Just tried rebuilding my UTEngine.ini file. Had no effect.

    The world and texture detail settings are already set to 1.

    I've also tried other maps and they play normally. It's only Deck that has this problem.
