    MAP-DM DM-Sky-Arena-Final Big Framerate Increase, final version

    Ok guys the map is fixedwith a Increases in FPS almost double and looks the same.

    So everyone that was having issues before should be fine now, This is the final version of it and i named it so to avoid file conflicts, but erase the old version anyways.

    Sky-Arena is my remake of my old Sky-Arena map for ut2k4. Its a arena map sure. But dont think its plain lots of pretty work was done to her to make her shine

    Nothing old was used, All textures and everything is new, i wanted the real ut3 feel.

    Sizing is good and it has full weps for those that arent into the IG low grav super speed.

    Oh yeah let me not forget custom Music that doesnt repeat when respaning, lol. Embeded into the map, but its channeled as a actual music track so you should be able to mute just music if your not into it.

    We will see shortly tho if it will push.

    OH yeah still looking for a half way decent clan that plays IG and Vctf, please no noobie clans. I bring the mappage so please bring the pwnage.

    She is all fixed up and 1000 times better looking then the bugged version, while i was fixing that bug i decided to have my way with her. I also improved light mapping to increase Framerate by around 50 to 60 percent.

    I guess your the first to post a completed map.

    Constructive criticism is always better that, "you fail". I applaud you for making the effort. I can't look at it yet because we don't get the full version here in the states until the 20th. I will check it out then...

    I would start making maps but I cant till I get the game . But oh well, lol.

    I agree you should have put this in beta.

    Try having different levels to your arenas .

    Have jumps to get to other levels and stuff.

    Adding a few columns and some height variation in the floor would improve even this simple map considerably.

    a good ammount of time was spent to make it not look like trash.

    To many people just post to hate. Name someone else, that even posted a map using proper lighting, or custom skybox arangement or for that matter inlayed custom music track. These are all new things to the community. Which i took the time to master with no help from it.

    Dont ask for everything, learn how to seperate visiual quality from playability and make something between them both. Less your familyer with the IG arena scene you really should be more constructive with your criticism.

    Hold your tongue till you try the map. This is mostly for the ig community, hence the remake of my old sky arena which a lot of ig and zark people know.

    see if your computer can even run this map on full settings

    I just played it and the background bugs for me, it blurs all over my screen and when I get hit the red of getting hit multiplies over the screen at the part where the skybox is. I cant see anything.

    I can only judge from the screenshot. Yes, I'm sure it has great gameplay for those that like IG box maps, and yes, you're the first to make a map with a custom skybox and proper lighting, and yes, it is a nice skybox, but no, a repeated wall section, a concrete floor, a skybox and some playerspawns do not a pretty map make.

    Want constructive criticism?
    • Add detail and decoration. Some statues on the walls, buildings in the distance, an entrance... the world doesn't end beyond those arena walls.
    • Get a custom floor texture instead of using the same concrete tiles seen in every map.
    • Use less repetitive wall sections.
    • Add a gameplay feature that will let people remember this map as something other than "some arena box map". Some jumppads, a platform, a ditch, a vehicle... anything to break the monotony.

    thats fine but i still have to ask how you would add buildings in the distance on a baren planet that the arena is so far in the sky. First buildings would be 10000 story buildins, they dont go that high into the atmousphere.


    people are still forgetting the fact that the map is just that, a arena map. nothing more. Its a ig map really. Thats all it is.

    If you want a real regular map then you have to wait till i finish my VCTF map

    tabo question, did you update your drivers, and also did you also use a nhancer to rename the executable for ut since your running a sli rig like my self.

    if not check it out, see if everything works good if you disable sli, if it works good, then you gotta update drivers and also use the program Nhancer to fix the EXE name in the nvidia profile

    right click on desktop goto nvidia control panel
    then select sli and disable it, then click apply.

    I'd make sure that the static meshes aren't set as bHighDetail or bSuperHighDetail (or whatever the UT3 equivalents are). That's one reason static meshes might not be showing up.

    yep after reviewing the issue, it is in fact a detail setting issue on the statics, il adjust it within the next hour or so. Il pull the link down from first post so please erase your old file then redownload in a little while.

    Sorry im running on 2x 8800 gtx sli'd so i usually have my settings maxed.

    omg this puppy is done now, fixed. Also did a ton of post process enhancements, really brings out the ut3 feeling now, thats what it was missing, oh yeah and a lot of little touch ups. and no guys its still a open arena nothing in the middle and no weird jump pads. Its strickly about being surrounded and how agile you can be.

    Oh yeah btw the new aditions should make some peoples computers work a tad bit harder. lol. Il modify the first main post in 5 mins, anyone who downloaded the old one please delete it due to a graphical bug

    yes it works now.
    I have very low fps though, unplayable fps even. And that with a 7950GX2, texture detail 3 and world detail 1. And my fps is stable 75 on almost any retail map. But you warned for that so np.

    mind you the map used the engine to its fullest, i was serious when i said that. lol

    Everyone complained about how drab it looked before and thats the cost of making it super pretty.

    question tho man, did you update your nvidia drivers as anyone with sli should do for this game

    It's not a good idea to make your map poorly optimised/add so much detail it will make people's computers lag.

    Indeed. So if anyone can't decently run this map (it's a box after all), it's the mapper's fault.

    first of all im just giving people what they want. First they say its not pretty enough, then they say its too pretty. lol make up your minds. lol

    il prob release a version 2 of it later. Also the map runs fine with a normal ammount of people playing at once, its when you have a lot happening at the same time you see drops in fps. Try the same thing in DM-Deck and you will see similar results.

    It's hard to please the crowds. I think the target group will appreciate the map, and I think that's what counts.

    Dude for one thing, more then half of the commands we used in old unreals to check for occusion and clipping down work or there changed. The community doesnt know them yet.

    Second, There are no anti-portals anymore. At least nothing easly available like before. So how is someone supposed to optimise a map and make it look pretty when no info is available to the community as of yet.

    Less you can come to the table with answers dont say a mapper did a bad job.

    Say something more like he did a good job with what info was available at the time. Cus as of right now like i said the community doesnt know how to optimize a map other then making it look bad and not using the engines new additions.

    I'm not saying it's too pretty. I'm just saying you shouldn't make a map that people can't run.

    if you cant run it then your hardware needs upgrading. If you get below playable frame rate your settings your system settings to high for your system.
    The stock maps at the same settings give aroudn the same frame rate with high action happening.

    get some better hardware. Epic even said straight forward this game will scale into the future.

    A plain open map doesn't make a good map = poor gameplay no matter how it looks, I'd rather have an ugly map that plays well and runs well, than a map that looks cool plays bad and only runs OK.

    You just don't get the "idea" of the map. It's 2k4 versions had more then 10000 logged matches, and that's pretty much considering it caters to a very small group of players. Have had a few mindless turbo instagib sessions on it myself. ^^
