    Question PC Version Editor Question

My question is; Where is it?

I've just bought the GoW PC version and would like to play with the editor. However I can't find it anywhere. The Instruction Manuel states on page 29. (The only page that talks of a game editor.)

"Gears of War for Windows includes a game editor on disc. For more information on working with this game editor, see http://udn.epicgames.com/three/gearsmodhome. This editor is provided on an as-is basis and without any warranty of any kind, and it is unsupported by Epic and by Microsoft."

So the above paragraph says the editor is on the disc. Checked. The editor is NOT on the disc. Since that didn't work I went to the above URL and got a "Cannot be found" page.

So back to my question. Where and how can I get the editor?

Or you can create one by adding the command line argument of editor to it:

    c:\<path to exe>\<UE3 title>.exe editor
    Hope that helps.

    Oh.. I get it.

    Ugh.

Right-click on the GoW shortcut, and choose RUN EDITOR.

    Viola!

I don't see the "run editor" option when I right click the short cut.

*sigh* can't even figure out how to open the editor....

Quick fix to get a shortcut to the editor on your desktop:

R-click drag the Gears of War shortcut icon on your desktop
When you release that choose the "Create Shortcuts here" option
R-click on the new shortcut and select properties
Add a space and then "editor" to the end of the Target line
Rename the shortcut to help you remember it will start the editor instead of the game.

    Enjoy!

If you have unreal 2 experience then you should be able to make a few basic levels but at least you will be on your feet. If you are brand new, I suggest going to 3dbuzz.com , sign up, go to video training, and watch the first few videos for the Unreal 2 engine. These videos teach the basics of the unreal interface, which hasn't changed much 8 ).

Keep in mind you had to install the editor in the first place, if you didn't click the more options and hit the "install editor" checkbox, the editor won't install at all.

at the end of the line, AFTER the "
    it should keep like this:

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries\Startup.exe" editor

there is another important thing i would like to ask,
still on my game desktop shorcut, there is not a proper icon/logo.

Where can i find the gears of war icon?, in order to apply it to the desktop shortcut...
I know it is on the game directory, because the file wargameg4wlive.exe on binaries has it applied, but until now, i has been unable to find the emplacement of THE icon...

There are programs that extract icons from binary files. If you want to find a different icon for the editor, the "startup.exe" has both icons, the red one and the green one of the editor.

Yes. That was my mistake. I would've had rather seen the option to install the editor from the first. As a result, I've wasted maybe hours on my Fri., and have been very frustrated. How many other people are in my situation- or one similar to it? How epic is handling this topic is not acceptable. They should have at least said to choose "More Options" in the instructions that came in the game box. And they should mention about this in a main topic in the related forum.

I never clicked the install install editor option... And I can use the editor freely but it kinda runs slow. I am going to uninstall everything and re install it and select the option to install th editor, maybe for some reason my editor was running from the CD?

Anyway we will see what happens.

After choosing to install the editor, I have no editor shortcut, it's not in my start menu or under games.

I have Vista. I went into Windows Explorer, and selected the following: (C>Program Files>Microsoft Games> Gears of War> and then selected the "Binaries" folder. In it was the Startup file. It's an .exe file. I right clicked on it, and chose "Create Shortcut". It says, "Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?". Select "Yes". Then I right clicked on that shortcut>chose properties, and in the open box beside where it says "Target", I now have: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries\WarGame-G4WLive.exe" editor. If you installed it somewhere else than the C, it won't look like that. It does take a while for the (Unreal) Editor for Gears to come up.
