I don't see how it would require more time to have the maps on the PS3 but ok. That just says how badly incompatible they are.

According to EG the PC version is also likely to be delayed?! Which if true is probably down to the PS3 Version being a PITA to polish.

Lol, I see what you did there..... You took the word delay, then removed Play from Playstation.

You were left with station, so then you put delay in front of it. Delaystation. Genius, absolute Genius.

I never seen that done before.

No one said that it's GONNA be delayed, only that there's the possibility of a delay for the PS3. Midway just says this as a guarantee that their stockholders will still trust them.

    Mark,

Thank you for keeping your player base informed. I know the reaction of the vocal minority makes you think twice about saying anything about such things - but the mature majority would much rather know what you are able to tell us as soon as possible.

    Mark,

As with many, I begged you for a release date some time back and you said "November". I appreciate the fact that you put yourself out there for us, even when you knew that a delay could bring some heat your way. You gave us the best projected date you could give us at the time.

We all need to keep in mind that when it comes to finalizing a complex game such as this, there's always the possibility of unforeseen events which can ultimately cause a time shift.

None of us want to make you leery of issuing future statements due to unnecessary negativity. We want the best you have to offer and I for one am willing to wait on perfection. I truly cannot fathom the pressures you have as you near the release of a product, nor do I care to add any more to it.

Again, thanks for keeping us in the loop. Much appreciated.

Love how all sites even remotely connected to gaming are making the blanket statement "UT3 delayed until 2008" not even bothering to clarify it's only the PS3 version, all the major gaming sites list UT3 as Q1 2008 now, and I wouldn't be too surprised if a bunch of retailers soon send pre-order customers the option of canceling both versions due to the "delay"...

    I do hate gaming media.

I'm pretty sure the PC version will be on track. After current events the PS3 will be blamed for the delay in the PC version, whether or not it would actually be related at all.

Wouldn't be a wise move imo, but then again I'm n a qualified marketering person.

    It will be money motivated....

They will use the reasoning that "We (Epic) wanted a WORLWIDE multiplatform unified release"...

I half way believe the email is sitting on someone's desk as we speak.

money as motivation wouldn't necessarily cause them to go for a unified multiplatform release.
If it's delayed and Epic's "new love for consoles" is blamed, there are more people who would ignore it and turn to a rival game than if the reason was "it aint finished"

Maybe... but my thought is this.... It is possible that an agreement with PS was created under the assumption that the PC and PS3 release were going to be at the same time....

I could defiinitely see PS wanting this.... Now that the PS3 title is delayed... it is a possiblity that they will have to go back to the arrangement with PS to see if they need to 'adjust' the PC release date.

Listen I dont know if such an agreement exists... but having been in marketing for 15 years and having been involved in the gaming industry for the last 4 years I could definitely see a scenario shaking out like this.

Does anyone else find it odd that now that the Playstation version is delayed the all PC maps will be on the game as well?

I mean, with the game not being finished enough to play, wouldnt you think they would spend their time on the bigger issues thats delaying the game and not time on optimizing all the maps that they could just release later in a download like they planned?

not really, different people do different jobs. if core development spend another month on the game, it gives whoever designs/ports maps that extra month to do more.

Yeah if there was going to be a delay in the PC version they would announce it together, it would be easier to manage then as then you only have to put out one fire instead of two seperate flame fests.

Or they would simply not mention the PC version if it was in limbo, doesn't make sense for Mark to say November if it's likely it isn't November.

Because it is the next logical question everyone would ask anyway.... and if they did not say it the assumption would be that it would be delayed...

Listen I am not saying that it WILL be delayed... just that I would not be surprised if it was....

The PC edition is 'on track' for November until it 'isnt'.... I dont expect Epic to officially say its delayed until they basically have no other option but to delay it...

How long do you think they knew that the PS3 version was delayed.....

If some one asked them two days ago when the PS3 version was coming out what do you think they would have said.

They probably knew for some time but they haven't answered questions like that in a while(or answered them with a nonspecific date/platform etc.. 'when it's done'-style)...
But I very much doubt that they would specifically mention the PC version being aimed for November in the announcement if they didn't think they could manage it.

If it doesn't come out in time for Christmas then it will have to wait for my cash until after I get sick of Killzone 2. lol Do out on Feb. 2nd. By the way I'm a new member here at these forums, would like to say what's up to everybody. I have both the 360 and the PS3 and plan on building me a PC soon. I'm not a fanboy I'm a gamer although I do prefer my PS3 over my 360 which is out getting repaired right now. At least I got to finish Halo 3 before it quit on me. lol

Thats the only delay I've heard of so far. I think we'll all be playing UT3 (pc version) by Nov. 19th as scheduled.

Default UT3 can be the Next Gears of War for PS3

    Mark,

We appreciate your and your team's dedication as well as putting in those long hours to get the project finished to your satisfaction. As games get more complex and demanding the challenges of the end user to have the optimal PC to have the best performance and graphics can turn into an expensive endeavor.
Having a game like UT3 with cutting edge graphics all on a uniform system like the PS3 makes the end user's life so much easier and that much attractive since you don't have to worry about recommended requirements or performance issues, all the end user has to know is pop the blu-ray disc into the PS3 and you can play right away which makes it all the more appealing.

You have once said Gears of War was a game that showcased the Xbox 360's capabilities and went on to sell millions last Christmas, and also said Unreal Tournament III will be a game to showcase PS3's POWER and I truly believe UT3 will become just as successful if not more on the PS3 if you bring it out before Christmas.
I feel bringing UT3 out next year will be detrimental having to compete with Killzone 2 and may get lost in the rush of games coming out in '08 and be under-valued.
Currently UT3 truly can become the main show piece for the Christmas season!
With the benefit of the PSN network having patches to address any bug fixes is truly a viable option and I believe having patches would not provide to be a factor in sales given that many Red Ring of Death were attributed to Gears of War initially before Microsoft announced it was their faulty hardware's fault and yet the sales of Gears of War were spectacular so that proves this will also be the case and should not influence the sales market, so I am crossing my finger your team will be able to release this great game in time for Christmas!

    Cheers!

    Mark,
I think you should release it this year also on account you wont have to compete with other games like killzone 2 or MGS4. Releasing it in 2007 (November would be best) is the smart think to do, since almost everyone with a ps3 will buy this game on account of there not being very many good games out for ps3. If you release it this before Christams you will make so much money and everyone will be happy. It would be stupid for you guys to release it after Christmas.

Hope you take this into consideration,
    thanks.

A 2008 release would make the game completely under-rated and looked over.. there's so many new games droppin in 08 "GTA IV" and not to mention the long list of anticipated games.. it would kill the attention that it will be able to have in 07, i mean theres some good titiles i seen thats droppin but UT3 would own those and be the big titile for the PS3 that everyone want for the holiday...

I gettin PS3 sumtime in november and im not one of the dudes on here making threats to EPIC to release the game.. I hope to one day work for a big game company so i try and relate to when Mark says it aint ready "IT AINT READY"... more power to him for holdin it up. Why release it when it's only at 80% when they can make it 100%..

So take your time, but yet still i believe a 2008 release would be like puttin out a fire that had the potential to burn down the amazon...

Shye, I believe the game is more than 80% complete, i mean just a few weeks ago at the TGS Mark was telling gametrailer in an interview they expected to have the game out on PS3 by November. That tells me the game is finished with development and an official QA handoff has taken place. Maybe some new code changes introduced broke the build or broke their acceptance test and scrambling around trying to fix it.
Or QA found a huge bug and working around the clock to try to resolve it.
Neverless, I believe its in the QA test cycle right now.

I really hope this will come out before Christmas I am guessing the game hungry 5 million PS3 fans, and fans sitting on the fences will pounce on this game.

I know i am going to pounce on this game, i do want epic to do their best obviously, and if the game is not finished in november or even december, i dont want them to release it. But i would love love love to see it come out this year, i know they are probably working their asses off right now, and i appreciate it and i hope millions of others will as well and make this game sell as much as it should.

I really hope it comes out soon and i really hope midway advertises this game...at least a couple commercials..

This game is also huge for the sony lineup this year imo. It is most def. a system seller.

Ive always been hesitant of this game when posting information about it because i had this feeling it would get delayed, but recently i read an interview with 1up i believe and they said they got hands on with a "Near Completed" version, so i was hopeful...oh well....

Keep it up epic, i know youll make the best game you can!

As a public company, Midway felt an obligation to its shareholders to let them know about the possibility of a delay. Our goal is still to get the PS3 version of UT3 in stores before the end of 2007. However, we will only ship it once it’s ready and is the best game we can deliver.

In addition there is some good news as a little extra time in development means that now the PS3 version will have all of the same maps as the PC version whereas we previously expected to ship a fewer maps on console.

The PC version is still on track for November with a downloadable demo to be made available prior to retail release.
Even though delay's suck....I think it's the best thing for this title. There's alot of hype in the PS3 community about UT3. I'm all over the PSU boards and they are foaming at the mouth to play this game, but, the overall concensus is that they would rather wait for the game, rather than getting a half-assed version.

PS3 owner's....you gotta love Epic.....they love thier product.

This is EXACTLY why all the PS3 people should just stop asking for cross-platform play already. We (PC users) do NOT want our code base tied to the PS3 or XBox versions. If cross-platform was implemented, and Sony and M$ started advertising it on their boxes, do you really think they'd let the PC version get an update that broke the feature? No.. from the moment Sony and M$ started telling their customers they could play against PCs, the PC version updates would then and forever be held back until the console versions patches were ready and went thru their respective long corporate verification.

UT ain't supposed to be a console game, IMO. You can have a console version, but please, keep it off my PC.

    Okay, /endrant

Okay, here's what I found strange from Mark's original post... he mentioned the extra time the PS3 version is taking to come out will actually let them finish the rest of the maps for the PS3 version, so they will ship with all the maps the PC version has. A very curious statement to me... aren't the map files the same? If a PC map is finished, isn't the PS3 gonna use that same map file? When map makers make custom maps and upload them to Nali City and such, can't the PC and PS3 user download the same map... or does there have to be a PC and a PS3 version of each map now?

If you release it this before Christams you will make so much money and everyone will be happy. It would be stupid for you guys to release it after Christmas.

Hope you take this into consideration,
    thanks.
    Reasonable idea..

Mental your wrong on the PS board most people want this out before Christmas, if its finished production and just need to do finishing touches that can always wait for a patch later on. As a software developer I know you will never feel completely satisfied with the final product and find things you want to change after its out the door but PSN has a great delivery method for patches so hoping for Christmas release!
