Default Would too much UT3 info spoil the surprise?

It seems that some people on this board are just obsessed with knowing _everything_ about a game before it's released. I'm actually glad that Epic doesn't let out too much information. Most of the maps are still unknown, as well as some vehicles, characters, gameplay tweaks.. All kinds of stuff actually.

    I think it's a good thing.

Imagine this, before meeting your new girlfriend, you would see her 50 page psychological profile, interviews from her family, know all about her anatomy and finally see a three hour porn film of her. Where would all the thrill be after that? What other would be left than bad surprises, like she looking Fugly in the morning and being a real *****?

If you gather all the possible good information about UT3 before the release, then there won't be any good surprises left. Just the bad ones. I miss the times when you knew almost nothing about the game you bought. Just that it was good. Nowadays hype always spoils the surprise.

Nice analogy lol... But anyway... Some people want info, some don't. If you want info, then you should get it. If not, don't read it!

Well, we want to _play_ the game. Even just the demo. So we're hungry for just about anything we can get.

Too much info for a SP game play like Bioshock might reduce the surprise.

Too much info for a MP does no harm. U better know what is possible in MP coz u'll get owned otherwise. And epic has revealed very little info about SP for ut3 which is good .

But it only includes the goo gun

Keeping a lot of the info secret makes total sense. It keeps us on edge, and we get to unwrap it when it arrives.

Plus, not everyone goes online, so the SP 'story' especially. Plus exactly how much damage for this or that weapon, try and find out, look at the code, etc after it arrives.

I hate when they release alot of info. I just can't control myself. I knew everything there was to know about Half-Life 2 before it was released. What kind of weapons, what kind of enemies and so on. It f***ed up my experience big time.

I hope they don't release more info.

I don't mind additional info. The game and scripting are going to be awesome. My wife has already told me I'm not allowed to buy the game.. little does she know ;x

unlike your girlfiend, UT3 will never be ugly.
haha, just messing around, not ripping on you. Good analogy.

I agree, I want to be surprised, but some information is important to know before hand.

LIKE, will ut3 be best on ps3 or xbox360? Need to know so I need which console to pick up.

By finding out all this info before the game is realeased, it has meant that I have been on a UT3 high for 2 years now... before the game has even been released. I get so excited when I see new screenshots or movies. It means that my enjoyment of the game is not just contained to when I'm playing, but also spread out over the development of it in the form of anticipation.

Whilst I would agree that singleplayer story details would ruin the surprise (much like knowing too much about a film before seeing it does) I don't see any harm in knowing all I can know about a game that is built around replayability. Just like even though it didnt take long to learn the maps and features of the previous UT titles, you could still enjoy the game for months and years afterwards.

Games which are spoilable are the ones where you don't really play them over and over, i.e. the story driven singleplayer only games. Games like UT just build, and even though we have seen lots of screens and vids, and read about all sorts of details, we still haven't played the game, and for whatever faults that we end up discovering within it - we're still gonna love it

Not so sure about the girlfriend analogy...

Compare the amount of screens and vids have been released for crysis to that of UT3, and both of these games have practicly the same release date...
Seems like you haven't met a forum full of anticipated people much before hmm?

The well know philosopher Kierkegaard once made a long paper of logical argumentation, undisputably concluding that the joy of anticipation IS the greatest joy. Epic is very good at keeping the salivation flowing, and I appreciate that.

    +1

also, its not a movie ! ... its not a linear game so u cant really call anything that has been published a spoil.

spoils = know every ending on the campaigning + knowing all tricks

all these informations that we got are just ways to keep, excite and grow the community!

Not if you don't let it. I still haven't even seen all the screenshots that have been released. Haven't watched any of the movies, 0 interviews, and only skimmed thru the BU IRC chat.

Certainly I've read a lot of threads about people's various opinions on what they think is coming, but I avoid official media as much as possible. It's easy, just don't click.

I agree with you, 'tis better to wait.

They want to keep some stuff to release between now and the release, it's called keeping the hype rolling, they're squashing bugs now so everything in the game is done feature wise, so all the vehicles are done and have names, but they haven't been talked about by Epic to save for later, they will announce stuff like that later to keep the hype going.

For those of us that have played all the Unreal games previous to this one, there is little element of surprise. We allready know what the series is about. Ofcourse Epic knows this, and knows how to keep the diehard UT fans on thier toes. I have a great feeling about this game.

I've mentioned this before. I don't know what there is for epic to hide, I mean, it's UT!! We know what the game is like. I can't stand these trickle of pics and piss ass quality of small amounts of videos.

We get more pics and vids of crysis and thats a whole new game. Same as stalker, we had tons of cool stuff to look at and watch

no, you can read all the info from epic you want and it won't spoil it because... none of the epic mods ever release any info that would spoil the surprise.... they said that tons of times "it will spoil the surprise."

While I don't think that all things about the game should be released...(singleplayer details can be kept as a surprise for example) I find it actually a good move when they release gameplay related stuff...to see how ppl think about it and not get situations at the end where many ppl don't like dissisions made by the designers...I think that they've released quite a lot about it already..so I think they did a nice job
