    Thumbs down Campaign Sniper Rifle

    Just a question:
You know when you choose between, Casual, Hardcore and Insane it says.. you can pull off a headshot etc. Well I've noticed, that when you shoot certain Locusts in the head, they don't die. And I mean in the head, standing still. Some of them have those helmets, and they come off, and you gotta shoot again to kill them.

Also, in Casual, is it just me or is it much harder to get a headshot than in Insane?

I think you misinterpret. He's saying that he finds it harder to get a headshot in casual, and that it is easier to get one in Insane.

Yeah, well I think thats the point of combat helmets... to protect the skull region from projectiles and whatnot.

Combat helmets can barely protect against low velocity pistol rounds - no helmet ever designed can stand up to even a single, weak rifle round. Because a bullet resistant helmet weighs so damn much you wouldn't be able to move properly.

I understand that they need to ramp the difficulty up, but instead of just giving the enemies more HP, can't they just make them better aims and use better tactics?

I don't see any difference in making headshots in all 3 difficulties, i love sniper rifles and i'm good with them(no ****! i am!) but i hate when i hit the neck and they just take cover again, and i have to waist another round in the same bastard

I noticed that on Insane the Locust use more cover, thus making them an easier target at an angle. Maybe thats why its easier on Insane?

  12. #12

    Default

Yeah, no difference really between the difficulty levels as far as getting a headshot. The game is kinda designed so all characters, especially enemies just soak up damage instead of being killed from 3 or 4 shots to the chest. So on the harder difficulty settings, especially Theron Guards won't lose their head even if you shoot them square between the eyes.

Just to clear this whole helmet vs. sniper thing up. Modern combat helmets are designed for limited protection against small-arms fire, so they can absorb an assault rifle round, although this also depends on the make of the bullet, whther it was hollow-point, FMJ, or jacketless. But you have to understand assault rifle and even light machine gun bullets are pretty small bullets. They have to be small because if they were big you couldn't carry as many of them. And combat helmets are designed to protect against bullets like that. Thing is, hi-powered rifles, like the kind used by recon snipers are designed to pierce armor, including combat helmets. So there, that is how it is.

yeah...i didn't really notice anything different between the two difficulties.
but i did notice that it felt easier to kill moving targets on casual than on insane. only major difference are the helmets.

On insane they die faster if you can get mostly headshots, but it's more noticeable when you're not using the sniper rifle. Try it with the Lancer or the Hammerburst - you end up using less ammo if you shoot them mostly in the head rather than the chest or legs. I think that's why it says "you can pull off a headshot." But that doesn't mean you can kill helmeted drones or therons with one shot, even with the sniper rifle. I've also noticed the Locust tend to force you to move a lot more on insane, they will close in and kill you if you just camp out behind one piece of cover and try to pick them off from there. It definitely forces you to use better tactics.

I've heard that if you lose, the computer remembers what you did, and teaches the drones to prevent from using the same tactic.

Nah, as dumb drones are, every cpu gets smarter on insane, even ur allies. so drones are more likly to take cover or hide when u have the longshot, or something explosive. of course, headshot works mostly on drones and greniders, but thats it.

i've noticed on insane that all the snipers tend to do quick pop outs from cover, like stick the head out, then duck as fast as they can, trying to get me to waste ammo

In casual, locust tend to be dumber, so they move more, unlike in insane, where theyre smart, and they keep their cover.(for the most part)

By deflected it means it grazed his helmet at an angle that did not lead into his helmet(towards his head). It did however hit him hard enough from grazing him to daze him. Had it hit him straight on, it would have punched through the front and out the back.

A helmet cannot stand up to an AK round. The size of the round, the velocity of the round and the fact that its steel core all contribute to its punching through power.

I don't know where you get your info from but its very wrong.

The Drones with the Shotguns, and Grenadier Elites have a more massive body than the other drones. They are like the tough guys of all Drones......It does take 2 shots to the head to see their head fly off.....

Standard Longshot round will remove the head of any Drone with an unarmored head.

Active reloaded Longshot round will remove the head of any Drone with a helmet.

    ---

Active to the head will kill (but not remove the head of) any Theron Guard/Sentinal.

    ---

Im not to sure about the following but i think that, its either...

1 active reload to a helmeted Troika gunner will kill (without removing the head)

    or

3 Standard shots or 1 Active + 1 Standard will Kill (without removing the head)

EDIT: This is all on Insane btw

You need an active reload to pop Drones heads off on Insane Difficulty. On Casual difficulty, you just need a bullet ready to be fired at their heads and off they go. You need an active reload to the head on all three difficulties to take out the Locust Troika.

I don't find it hard to pop off heads on Insane. Actually, Insane difficulty has become so easy that I can breeze through it.

So I've never played casual but I have beaten both insane and hardcore, and I found it easier to get headshots on insane. I don't know why, but I thought hardcore was harder to get a headshot on for whatever reason.

the only way to headshot locust that are not damaged on hardcore and insane, is AR with sniper and nail them in the head. Otherwise ill take 2 shots. But with AR, you take them down anyway on whatever part of the body
