linux installation help

I installe ut2004 from the cd with the linux installer. Everything seemed to work because I was able to run the game after it installed. However, the installation never created a desktop shortcut. I can't figure out how to start the game without the shortcut. By the way, I new to linux too. LOL... any help.

You just need to create a icon that points the the UT2004-bin file in the UT2004 directory.

Can you walk me threw it? Also,When I click on the bin should the game start? I think I was asked what program I wanted to open it. I am at work now so I can't try anything until I get home?

What flavor linux? Have you checked your apps pull down menu for a new catagory called other? That's where it shows up on redhat/fedora releases.

You need to know where you installed it. Again for most standard setups, it would be in the /usr/local/games/ut2004 directory. You can use this command at the command line, /usr/local/games/ut2004/./ut2004 to start the game from a terminal or you can add to your panel a shortcut, the UT2004 icon, it's a xpm file which is a Xbitmap according to gnome, is also in that directory. The 64 bit version of the game can be started by editing the shell script to run that binary.
