What the hell? The enforcers were much more powerful than the ARs...

Ladies and gentlemen...after the myriad of biassed polls, I give you... <drumroll>...the CONFUSING poll.

    1) assault rifles (or enforcers): what? you thought UT2 only had assault rifles and that enforcers were a thing of the past? Or maybe you didn't even knew there was a UT2, but rather a UT2003/UT2004 combo rolled into a single entity? Let me tell you that you are right in being wrong: there was indeed never a UT2 containing an assault enforcer. Nor did UT2003 contain assault rifles and UT2004 enforcers or vice versa. That's right: it is only 'till this poll came up that the overlap started to mold together the two guns. Voting for this is like ice skating with a blindfold: you don't know where you're going and you might make a hard crash, but it's exciting to do if you don't think of the consequences. Who knows what you might be voting for?

    2) ut3 versions (as seen in the trailers): this is a shot in the dark...you're going to judge by the look of a gun how it's going to play out. There's no idea on how accurate the guns will be, nor how much damage each hit gets you, and only an instant-view of the firing speed. If you vote for this, you like surprises and are eagerly awaiting how things will turn out OR you're getting tired of all the waiting and decide that it's probably not worth whining to Epic to change their design all over again.

Fun doesn't stop with the poll, though. In case your train of thought arrived at a safe station, you'll be greeted by the following argument:

"the ut1 versions were ok, but weak comparted to the ut2 ones"

If you have formulated your own opinion at this point, you're in the clear whether to agree with this sentence or not (assuming you can figure out what 'comparted' means). I wish good luck to those (semi-)new to the series, as this argument will undoubtedly be countered by many others disagreeing with the poster. Like yours truly, for example. As a connaisseur of both UT1 and UT2 (yes...I actually know a game called UT2 ), I use my built up experience to proclaim the following:

"the ut2 versions were ok, but weak comparted to the ut1 ones"
The game looks and plays great, Epic!

The Assault Rifles are nothing compared to Enforcers. AR's feel like weak popguns that just made a load of noise. Enforcers on the other hand sound deadly and put the life out of the opposition with just a few well-placed shots.

I hope the new enforcers are more like ut99 (powerful), but doing slightly less damage.
They were mad in ut99, if u had dual enforcers, up close u could kill an enemy in under 1 second, they did 25 damage a shot.
Also single enforcer was deadly accurate unlike the assault rifle of ut2.

So enforcer of ut99 = more accurate AND does more damage.
    They sounded more powerful too.

When UT came out, one of the things reviewers consistantly mentioned was the refreshing power of the enforcer you spawn with. The idea of giving the players an actual weapon on spawn, a weapon that can be used effectively, was totally unique. In every other game before (Quake, et al), you got a rinky-dink holdout weapon that kept your hands occupied, but did little else. Finally, an actually dangerous weapon!

The fact that dual enforcers are even more dangerous is a given, but makes sense, since it's the only weapon you have to kill to pick up. Considering you probably took a round or two in earning it, that second enforcer should be well worth the price.

And then came 2kx, where Epic returned to their ancestral FPS roots, and gave us back the crappy spawn weapon that is the AR. People don't have to even pretend to dodge this weapon, and will just take a leisurely moment to point a far more powerful weapon at you, should you use the AR on them. The AR actually just draws dangerous attention, and thus became more of a danger to the user than a threat to others. Heavy-duty suckage for a spawn weapon; how old-school.

I'm hoping Epic remembered their own designs, and gives us a real spawn weapon in UT3.

Update: That poll is really b0rked!

I'd prefer Enforcers. Simple, powerful, and simply cool.

Assault Rifles do really feel a bit like decorations, unless you become good with it... Although the AR has it's good sides too. Nothing better like a grenade multikill.

And with dual ARs you can survive a bit longer if you've run out on everything else.

And it can be a bit more accurate too. Just fire in 2-3 shot bursts, you should see it's more accurate that way (at least I see ).

It is hard to vote anyways, I don't have a clue what the upper option means, since the enforcers weren't in UT2 officially.

The last 2 Quake series suffered from overly powerful starting weapons. Hell, even the Assault rifle in UT2k4 was too powerful (any TDM league has the number of grenades reduced to 1). If the enforcers are more powerful than the Assault Rifle, they've just talked me out of playing pub TDM.

First of all there not the same guns, UT1's are pistols, UT2's are AR's. Secondly you arnt serious about UT1 pistols being weaker then UT2 rifles are u?

Enforcers were way more efficent/deadly then the assault rifles have ever been.

Neither of them look that unwell. Maybe if they were a bit more yellow or green or something?

I mean, I guess they could jam or something; that could be considered pooly. But sick? I dunno. You couldn't really call a doctor. A weapons specialist or something .....

Well since the choice is between the UT2 and UT3 Enforcers that we see in the trailers, I vote for the UT3 ones since it would be practically impossible to be weaker than the UT2 Enforcers. They were just pitiful, and I felt embarrased using them. After playing the UT Enforcers, being reduced the pee shooters in the sequel was just ... bad. UT2k4 salvaged them from UT2k3 if slightly, but still - it wasn't the same.

Clearly I'd take the UT Enforcers if possible, but it seems likely these new ones might be pretty decent. I'll give them a shot. But I just hope they aren't weak.

This poll is just plain weird. I'll pass on the voting and just say the Enforcers were GREAT weapons. I'll be glad to see them replace the assault rifles.

this poll is sh**.. if there was a third option "if they redo the Enforcers from UT PROPERLY I'll be glad to see them in UT3" then I'd vote for it.

Well, either redesign the Enforcers according to UT99's version, or design a brand new look that doesn't suck.

The Enforcers were good, I found myself switching back to them ocassionaly even when I had a bunch of other guns, and once you got dual Enforcers it was wtfpwn time.

The assault rifle is so bad I had to set my game so I had the shield-gun selected on spawning.

UT3 enforcers looks like cheezy pop guns. I prefer the ones from utk3 or 04's.

There were no Enforcers in UT2k3 or 2k4, those were Assault rifles. Thanks to the OP, he has some people believing that the Enforcers and Assault Rifles are the same guns. Anyway, after seeing the new Enforcers in UT3, I don't really like the color of the gun and would've liked them to make the guns look exactly, if not similar, to these Enforcers from Unreal Championship 2: http://www.bpm-clan.com/UC2%20Enforcers.JPG, in my opinion they look powerful, the clips aren't at the side of the gun, and you can't go wrong with that black color.

That's not too bad. Honestly when I picture UT3 enforcers I picture something beefier though. I don't know how they settled on those pieces of crap they have in there now, they don't even look as solid as those UC2 ones. Terrible.

We could hope those weren't completely finshed models. Just like 2k3's shock we saw in early preview videos (which was better than final 2k3 shock model imo).

Malakai, I understand what your saying. I was basically talking about the models. I understand they shoot grenades. But I guess take out the nade rounds and the guns would look cool. Sorry that I was'nt more descriptive.

this was exactly my point! they just dont look beefy! even though the ut2k4 a.r's were weak, they looked very beefy and sounded just as beefy with the bassy automatic fireing tone. the the ut99 ones were good but too slow and didnt look as beefy either. so just like this above quote, im dissapointed in how they look in ut3, and how they fire, damn! lol

and how many morons still dont understand this poll like its f@#$kin rocket science. lol all i was asking was would you rather see the ut99 enforcers, or the ut2k4 assault rifles, instead of what your seeing the traiers for the new versions in ut3. lol quit being little b#$ches! (unless your under 21 then its understandable lol)

Seriously, even the DOOM 1 pistol is better than those awful assault rifles. Did you ever get the feeling that you had a better chance of killing someone just by glaring at them than you did with those assault rifles? Cause I did.

lol theres not denying they were weak as heck, absolutley miserable weapon to kill with. BUT in the mod that i specialize in on 2K4 (or utgoty) which is Excessive Overkill, ive mastered the art of useing the dual enforcers/assault rifles. If you dont know about EO, youll never know how effective the dual assault rifles can be. Actually they are the preffered weapon, and the quickest killing weapon in the mods (EO)

Wow, holy crap those look sweet. the design team on UC seems to have a much better grasp of the "coolness factor" than the 2kx team did. Yeah, I'd go for that look for the new enforcers.
