Lightbulb Ultimate Locust Counter Attack Strategy (Spoiler)

/* Yikes, Another Fan Boy Geek Out Moment */

If I was General Raam's successor after just having had my a$$ handed to me by a lightmass bomb in the heart of my civilization, I would do the following:

    • Burn the Imulsion fields from below - creating a massive greenhouse effect on the planet - (i.e. Gulf War 1 - Day becomes night)
    • Unleash the Kryll - Now that they are safe from the sun, they can exterminate a lot of the remaining human population
    • Launch insurgent attacks on military industrial complexes - really give it to them where it hurts their technology the most. Our bio-mechanical advantage really starts to kick in as we can breed more weapons faster than they can build them.
    • Ground Assualt II - Now that the cloud cover is blocking their satellite targeting and they have been weekend substantially, we would unleash our Berserkers, Corpsers, Brumaks, Grunts etc.

Who is to say that Imulsion is actually combustible, Just because it is a fuel source doesn't mean that it burns, or is a "Dirty Fuel", If in fact it is combustible it could burn clean...

Tjirad, why ya gotta be a hater?

Remember those lambent imulsion gorged wretches that explode? Kinda proves the stuff might not mix with cigarettes...

    -AD

p.s. Here's the definition of lambent, which both Fenix and I didn't know..

    Main Entry: lam·bent
    Pronunciation: 'lam-b&nt
    Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin lambent-, lambens, present participle of lambere to lick -- more at LAP
1 : playing lightly on or over a surface : FLICKERING
2 : softly bright or radiant
3 : marked by lightness or brilliance especially of expression

It actually explains what lambent is in game..I was surprised cuz I played that act like 4 times before I heard it... Cole I think says What the hell is lambent?... and Marcus I think says... It means it glows in the dark

You know what i would do to kill off the locust's. Make a pathagen that derectly attacks there white blood cells, and imune system. One locust gets sick, the rest will fall, and you dont start the Bio weapon with a simple grunt, you go from the top, get the queen sick. As the queen once said "cut off the head of the snake and the body dies".

There may be some holes in AlienDjinn's plan, but unfortunatley we don't know yet because enough of the story hasn't been revieled yet. Over all though I woqld say that this was amazingly weel thought out. Not only does it just make sense strategically but it's also very creative.
I liked the idea a lot thanks for posting it.

Here's my COG counter to your strategy:

Construct domes over the entirety of all major complexes, and centers of population to shield from the Kryll.

Build venting systems into these to void the fumes from the Immulsion.

Convert all centers of military production to the Platue, to keep it safe.

Prepare all men and vehicles for extreme aggression.

Use King Ravens to target the sattelites.
The enemy is on his knees. Six small craters leak blood over his tarnished armor, pooling around the single hand that remains to support his failing weight. He hears you aproaching, and tries to speak his defiance. All he manages is a blood soaked cough. Your foot slams down on his skull, and a thick, dull crunch can be heard as his skull shatters, the blood blossoming out around his deceased form like a crimson omen..

locust strategy. first is to begin a nemacyst storm. remember in desperation, how the sky is all dark, u cant use the hammer of dawn, and the kryll will attack u unless u r in the lights? its the nemacysts. they block out all the light.
corpsers army to destabalize jacinto, and make a massive tunnel network.
finally, launch a simultaneous air and ground assault, with therons on reavers, and beserkers with ground support.'

cog strategy. build a huuuuge lightbulb

Good point Haro on the Nemacyst storm.

We're not sure though if Locusts have a sizeable force left after the lightmass bomb...so if I lived under ground, I would do everything I could to make life on the surface suck. Torch the Imulsion fields and let darkness reign!!

I like the lightbulb idea... The COG could build a giant planetwide defensive strand of Christmas lights. Of course if one goes out, then you're screwed!

I never got why I didn't have a flash light to bat away the kryll, but on to the more important topic, just randomly fire the Lasers, they may not be able to target but who cares you just want to burn a whole in the darkness

Guys, shut up... if you don't stop with all these good strategies (they really are quite creative) you'll give Epic the idea we want a Gears RTS.

One great shooter franchise being turned into a RTS is enough.

The Halo Fransise isn't becomeing a RTS if thats what your inferring. Another company is putting bungies old plans for Halo into the works. Its hardly being turned into that. Besides NEVER would GoW become a RTS

I was making a large jump by inferring Halo was being turned into an RTS. It's more accurate to say Halo is being adapted or more accurately expanded into a RTS.

And yes, Halo was originally intended to be a Real-Time Strategy game. And just to be clear, I am looking forward to Halo Wars.

But I do not want to see any GoW strategy games... ever.

Yeah what I wonder is why they don't just put up more lights when they can at as many places as possible, unless there's some power shortage because of the COG's weakened condition. DAmnit I want to know more about the Gears of War story....

blowing the imulsion well pockets underground wouldn't do much. it would cause earthquakes and change the topography. i doubt it would cause a green house effect, besides do we know if imulsion is from dead carbon matter? otherwise no greenhouse effect. the locust don’t need insurgents to fight the humans, from the looks of it there’s more of them than humans. it’s more like the human regulars and irregulars would be resorting to hit and run tactics. i’m surprised or wonder about human sympathizers siding with the horde. I also doubt an all out assault would crush the humanoids, they done well holding them off

    Hi Nyte Owl,

    Thanks for the feedback.

    A couple of thoughts:

    - I was assuming that if you could organize a planet wide "Imulsion burning," that you would also use your Corpsers to dig chimney's to the surface

    - Insurgent attacks was my euphemism for small coordinated attacks by the Locusts after getting hit hard by the Lightmass bomb, until they could rebuild

    - Good point on the Imulsion burning... if it's a clean burning fuel of the future that's a problem. However, the bits of those exploding Wretches left a fossil fuel kind of taste in my mouth!

    - I agree with you though, the humans have done pretty well for torching all of their own cities. They still have the ability to conduct coordinated operations and have maintened their communications and satellite networks. Also they must have airbases that have survived, since they are using (assuming this one) fairly short range aircraft.

who says making the immulsion combust or explode would not also kill all of the locusts as well...and that would defeat the purpose

LOL... good one. Master Chief is probably his second cousin twice removed on his mothers side. I dunno though... the imulsion is a cheap fuel, and it seemed really hot. It killed the Giant Spider creature(sorry don't remember the name) and drowned it. Im assuming it wouldn't burn at all...

Nice plan, I like it. I only have one possible flaw with it. It's only a minor one, but a flaw nonetheless.

What's to say the very reason the Locust are attacking mankind in the first place, isn't that Imulsion has meaning to them? Is 'sacred' in some way? Unlikely, I know, but at the same time it could be a theory that would prevent them from burning the Imulsion to create the greenhouse effect.

If I were to organise the assault, it would go something like this, bearing in mind it would take time, since our forces would be weakened already. This is very much based on speculation and the theory that the Locust actually have an organised military, within the "Hive mind" structure. Now, remember that a Corpser clearly breaks through the ground in the prison that Marcus is kept in at the start of the game. I would assume the prison is located on or near Jacinto Plateu. I doubt they would stick people in a prison out where the Locust could get 'em.

Phase one: Based on this, remaining Corpsers begin to tunnel under Jacinto to weaken the structure significantly. A piece at a time, the granite would be worn away to expose the human stronghold.

Meanwhile, coordinated "suicide runs" by Reavers over the plateu would spot out air bases, military complexes and hospitals. I say suicide runs because of the COG defences inevitably guarding the plateu that would kill them. The Hive mind collective would ensure they carried the mission through.

From that data, the Corpsers would direct their tunnels to avoid all major military areas and instead focus on the hospitals and civilian areas.

Phase two: While this is going on, Drones and Theron Guards utilise geurilla style tactics and set up ambushes against both COG and Stranded groups, using captured human weaponry and ensuring the battles look like both groups killed each other. This would elevate the already high tensions between the groups, in the hopes of igniting conflict between them, to weaken them more.

Phase three: In time, once suitable tunnels had been constructed by the Corpsers and the Locust army's numbers were back up, the final battle would commence. Roughly a third of the Locust numbers would be ordered to emerge just beyond Jacinto, far away enough to force COG forces to mobilise the Ravens for troop transport. These troops would be heavily armed and armoured with back up from Seeders and the remaining Brumaks.

Once the COG forces left Jacinto to attack this new threat, the remaining Corpsers would open up the tunnels and the two remaining thirds of the Locust horde would emerge forth within Jacinto, targeting the hospital and civilian areas. The army would sweep through Jacinto, wiping out the resistance met and working their way towards the COG leaders. Once Jacinto had been secured, they would bunker down outside where ever the leaders were, order in the Seeders and barrage the place with Nemacyst till they were dead.

The remaining COG forces would be eliminated systematically, the planet would be clean of humans, the Queen would be pleased.

Yes, there are major flaws in it and alot of it mere speculation and "what if"s, but I don't think it's the worst plan in the world.

You didn't use Brumaks! Haha, other than that, your plan sounds pretty good. If I was a commander in the locust, then I would round up stranded human children and use them as bait. I'm not sure if any normal person could just sit back and watch as they were used as taget practice for torque bows or all the other nasty things that could happen.

Ehkru - I like you're plan, especially the kamikazi Reavers!

Also, instead of framing the COG with the Stranded, maybe they could ally with them and blame the COG for starting the war. But your idea of a COG vs. the Stranded could be a cool twist for GOW2.

Trick Shot - I don't think most normal people could chop up humanoids with chainsaws or curb stomp them! So the COG may be slightly desensitized....

    But what do I know...
