    Default Species Statics/ Races?

I wonder if they'll have Races and stuff a la UC and UC2, and Species Stats.
I personally always liked the idea.Even though it was never fully balanced, I belive it can be.I hope it's in

    Thumbs down

It would be nice to have a properly coded mutator. I'd prefer it as an option as opposed to a required part of the game

    What he said.
If it were standard it would just complicate things for new players.

Sure, It can be a really funny mutator, but I hope It wont be in game itself (I mean without mutator)

I wouldn't be opposed to a mutator for this. I had fun using it to dominate my bots .

    Mutator material.
Species are good for teamgames with (most) pickups removed, like Team Fortress. It doesn't fit the current UT gameplay at all.

I prefer how this was done in UC2 a million times more than the bare bones version provided in UC/UT2k3.

I wouldn't object to Species Stats if UT2k7 had a seperate melee Gametype(DM, TDM ,CTF, ONS, Warfare, AC Rites) that was essentially the gameplay ported from UC2. This could even be added in a ECE/Expansion pack later on.

Whatever gametype does use species stats and character classes, the Entire gameplay would have to be built around this dynamic instead of being arkwardly added on to standard gameplay like a half baked mutator. A class based Warfare gametype could have species stats work.

Honestly, If Warfare takes off in UT2007, Epic should make a semi-tactical Sci Fi FPS called Unreal Warfare as a spin off title. In UW you could choose to fight in either the NEG, Skaarj, Necris or Nakhti armies. Each side would have completely different Troops, Abilities, Weapons and Vehicles.
It would be a little like ET:Quake wars and W40k: DoW.

I never noticed any difference while using the Species mutator. I've read about the effects, but they seem pretty subtle in an actual match.

Thats what I meant when I said "properly coded" mutator. If I recall it was supposed to make Juggs slower with more health, Gen Mo Kai Jump Higher, Egyptians run faster etc, but I never noticed any difference.

IF you play UC1, you'd see it work fully.

Species Stats in 2k4 is somewhat broken.

IT only works properly in instant action. It does partiallly work online.

You can see this with a simple test:

Go instant action, and turn on the mutator.

Pick an Egyptian, and start doing some double jumps: you cannot miss the HUGE difference. : works online

Also pick A gen MO, and feel the speed.: works online

Last but not least one of the more broken features is the nightmare race. The have vampire regen up to base starting health. In other words, you'll regain health from kills, but it will not put you past 100 on the health meter. This is very broken online. It does work in instant action.Things like this are why you never see it used online.I had a server, and tried to be the renegade species server, and I realized why there were'nt any.

After awhile, everyone went to one or two species: the ones that are not broken online. The nightmare race sealed the deal for me.I have a friend who Loves to only use his Ravage skin.Well He liked the Regen idea for his character.Thing is, since they have that ability, there other atributes totally stink. When you get online, and don't have your one trump card, it kinda negates it altoghter,

While it may not fit 'current' UT gameplay ... I see no reason for it not to be included as standard in the next version aka UT2k7.

It's not complicated, because there's always the 'standard human'-race to pick.
It's also relatively easy to learn, because most of the effects (different speeds, different max health/shield) are pretty easy to see.

I think it will even help people learn the to use the more acrobatic moves, because they can pick a race that is a either helps them cover their weakness one way (by making it 'easier' to dodge) or the other (by making badly timed dodges less of a problem thanks to higher health/shield)

If different stats were a problem then all race-games would feature just one car, rts-games would only have one unit-type, flightsims would have 1 plane and all fps-games would only have 1 gun.

Variety is the spice of life.

My main problem is that Epic's writers seem to be reticent when describing actual details in the game manuals. The explanation of Adrenaline continues to be my flagship gripe about the techwriting philosophy of the company, which seems to be "arouse curiousity, but do not inform". The idea of "you'll have to discover for yourself" has no part in UT. This isn't Myst, where subtle and intriguing are assets. There's red-hot shrapnel heading your way!

If species stats are included, beyond working properly, I'd perfer that it, and every other mutator included with the game, gets a full description, either in the booklet, or in the game. Why include features, and then be all coy about them? Why bother setting up a mutator description field, and then be all cute with what you write in it? Describe the damn mutator, for god's sake!

By this you mean packaged with the game as an optional extra, and be turned on or off as you please? Species stats sounds interesting TBH, I would play it now and then when I get tired of normal play.
